Page 11- Soundtrack Arrow Productions Arrow Productions story begins in a tiny theatre on London’s Lower East Side. In 1985, fresh from England, 23-year-old Kurt Launder amazed audiences with his magical hand-cranked films. The beginnings were humble; folding chairs, a painted wall for a screen but the desire to entertain and move people has been at the core of what Arrow Productions have been doing ever since. Launder’s movies we’re wildly popular and his single screen grew into a chain of theatres around the globe; Los Angeles, London, Birmingham, etc and then into a movie making business.

Arrow Productions haven’t had the chance to release a huge film smashing the box office yet, but we have been offered the chance to remake and re-release the successful 1976 Rocky. We believe that this will kick start our future and make our company even more successful.

We are planning to re-release the 1976 Rocky on the Easter of 2016 to mark the 40-year anniversary. In the run up to the 40th anniversary we are creating a completely new film poster, blue-ray and disk casing and re-making the whole film; but using as many of the original characters from the 1976 Rocky.

Rocky Balboa is a struggling small-time boxer trying to make the big time, as he works day-in day-out as a debt collector for a loan shark and fights in shady clubs for low-paid reward. Rocky is mocked and told that he’s nothing but a ‘bum’ as he hasn’t got much going for himself. When heavyweight champion visits Philadelphia, his managers want to set up an exhibition match between Creed and a struggling boxer, touting the fight as a chance for a “nobody” to become a “somebody” and now has the chance to prove he is not worthless.

I think the re-release will do well with today’s generation than 40 years ago because of the technology available today as well as the social networking websites available. It is easier to promote the film more as a lot of the population goes on the Internet. Rocky” is such an immensely involving movie. Its story, about a punk club fighter from the back streets of Philly who gets a crack at the world championship, this will appeal to a lot of ages and gender in this generation because of the heart- warming storyline as well as the intense fighting/ .

Worldwide Rocky made $225,000,000, just in the USA it made $117,235,247. Although the figures are outstanding, even for 40 years ago when it was a lot harder to reach out to the public than it is in the present times with new technology, we believe that the re-release can reach out to more people than John G. Avildsen could 40 years ago with the emergence of social media, the ways advertising has grown and the expanding technology.

We also believe that we can set higher box office figures because in this generation a lot has changed and we believe the genre of this film would appeal to all ages. Before adverts for the movie would have been done over the radio, on TV and public spaces, posters (buses and bus stops). Now around 2,405,518,376 people use the Internet in the world 70% of that using it every day.

In conclusion I think that it is important that the film is re-released for the new and current generation that haven’t been exposed to John G. Avildsen’s excellence, a movie is a way that plenty of people can see his work as it is timeless and will always be a classicstory.

The film was directed by John G. Avildsen. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Avildsen moved to New York with his family when he was ten. He studied at New York University at night, while working at an advertising agency. In 1961, Avildsen met up with his former advertising agency boss, who was starting production on a film, The Greenwich Village Story and hired Avildsen as his Assistant Director on various films while holding a day job as a director of television commercials for an advertising agency.

He then moved on to the 1970 low-budget drama Joe. He then went onto directing the low-budget Cry Uncle! (1971) and (1972). Avildsen’s next project was the drama (1973), sadly it failed to connect with moviegoers, but won an academy award for his performance. Avildsen also directed W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings (1975) which found Burt Reynolds playing a pleasant Southern con man.

A year later Avildsen scored a major box-office hit with Rocky, the now-legendary Sylvester Stallone project about inarticulate but sensitive boxer , who dreams of becoming a champion. Avildsen had turned down Sylvester Stallone before for parts in previous films before. Then he read Sylvesters script Rocky and agreed to direct the picture. Avildsen won an Oscar for the best director, and the film was named best picture. However, the romantic drama Slow Dancing in the Big City (1978) and The Formula (1980), a conspiracy thriller, unfortunately for Avildsen their proclivity to follow victory ended with defeat.

However, in 1984 Avildsen found box-office success again, with . The massively popular ‘Rocky-ish tale ‘centres on a teenage ‘weakling’ who’s life turns around after some training in martial arts from a Japanese janitor. The Karate Kid, Part II (1986) fared even better at the box office.

Stallone attended the American College of Switzerland and the University of Miami; he eventually obtained a B.A. degree. He struggled in small parts in films such as The Party at Kitty and Stud’s, Klute, Bananas. He got a crucial career beak alongside Henry Winkler, sharing lead billing in the teen gang film The Lord’s of Flatbush (1975). Stallone was also very keen to be recognised as a screenwriter and not just an actor, and, inspired by the 1975 Muhammad Ali – Chuck Wepner fight in Cleveland, Stallone wrote a film script about a nobody fighter given the opportunity to challenge for the heavyweight title. Rocky (1976) became the stuff of cinematic legends, with ten Academy Award nominations, winning the Best Picture Award of 1976 and leading to one of the most financially successful movie franchises in history.

After Rocky got his fame for Rocky he followed with the sequel, Rocky II (1979) The second film for the “Italian Stallion” wasn’t as powerful or successful as the first Rocky however, it still produced strong box office. Stallone then went on to the third installment of Rocky, Stallone once again return to familiar territory with Rocky III.
