The name was given in honor to Primo Carnera, the boxer who beat Jack Sharkey at the Madison Square Garden of New York in 1933, winning the World Boxing Championship. Italians celebrated his back to Italy with this Cocktail NEGRONI Orange colored cocktail invented in Florence between 1919 and 1925 from the famous barman Luigi Scarselli, in honor to Conte Camillo Negroni, who was used to ask him for an "American Cocktail with Gin” NEGRONI SBAGLIATO Negroni Sbagliato means “Wrong Negroni” and has been casually invented in 1969 in Milan, by Mirko Stocchetto owner of the famous Bar Basso. Generaly bartenders place bottles always in the same place, so to find them immediately when needed. One day a customer entered Bar Basso and asked Mirko for a Negroni. Mirko got the three bottles needed, but when he started to pour he realized that in his hands there was Prosecco instead of Gin. The customer asked to continue and nowadays the all of us can appreciate this well balance cocktail, born by mistake. SPRITZ The name “Spritz” originates from “vino sprizzato” which means “sprayed wine”. Born in Venice in 1919, the story tells that during the First World War, Austrian soldiers who arrived in Italy were used to drinking beers at a lower alcohol level than the Italian wines. So, they started to add soda to soften and decrease Prosecco, the typical Italian wine of the region that borders to Austria. Over the years standard alcohol levels have been reset, and nowadays we serve Campari or Aperol Spritz BELLINI Born in the famous Harry's Bar in Venice, was invented between 1938 and 1948 by Giuseppe Cipriani. The name finds reason in the pink color (rosè in Italian) of the robe dressed by a Saint painted by the famous Italian painter Giovanni Bellini ROSSINI Variation of Bellini, in honor to Gioacchino Rossini, famous Italian musician and composer TINTORETTO Variation of Bellini, in honor to Jacopo Robusti, the famous Italian painter nicknamed “Tintoretto” MIMOSA Variation of Bellini, in honor to Women Rights, because of the color that reminds to the Flower Symbol for International Women’s Day. .

  • Trails of the Cocktail 5 14 18.Pdf
Trails of the Cocktail Few cities can boast more historic significance in their cocktail culture than the Crescent City: birthplace of the Sazerac, Ramos Gin Fizz, the Grasshopper, the Hurricane, and (backed by one of the best apocryphal origin stories ever concocted) even the cocktail itself. In 1769 Spanish Colonial Governor of Louisiana Alejandro O‟Reilly issued a proclamation allowing one limonadier (lemonade seller), twelve taverns and six billiard halls to dispense alcoholic beverages. Closing time was ordained to be 8 pm, but bribes to the necessary officials extended the hours over the years. Rum came into the port of New Orleans and was taxed by the Spanish colonial government. Pat O‟s, Home of “The Hurricane” The “Hurricane”, the most popular drink at Pat O‟Brien‟s in the French Quarter, was created during World War II when liquor such as whiskey was in short supply. In order to purchase just one case of these preferred liquors, liquor salesmen compelled bar owners to purchase as many as 50 cases of rum, which was plentiful. In an effort to utilize the excess of rum, Pat O‟Brien's famous recipe emerged. The name came along soon after when a glass (shaped like a hurricane lamp chimney) was used to serve the popular rum cocktail. Don the Beachcomber (1907 — 1989), founding father of Tiki culture (Tiki bars, restaurants and nightclubs), enjoyed great popularity in the United States — mostly from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. He and his friendly rival “Trader Vic” Bergeron are still remembered for their cultural influence.

  • Greek Traditional Cuisine Some Information for Greek Cuisine
GREEK TRADITIONAL CUISINE SOME INFORMATION FOR GREEK CUISINE Greek cuisine is a Mediterranean cuisine, sharing numerous characteristics with Middle Eastern cuisines of the region. Contemporary Greek cookery makes wide use of olive oil, vegetables and herbs, grains and bread, wine, fish, and various meats, including lamb, poultry, rabbit and pork. Greek cuisine has a long tradition and its flavors change with the season and its geography. Greek cookery, historically a forerunner of Western cuisine, spread its culinary influence - via ancient Rome - throughout Europe and beyond .It has influences from the different people's cuisine the Greeks have interacted with over the centuries, as evidenced by several types of sweets and cooked foods. It was Archestratos in 320 B.C. who wrote the first cookbook in history. Greece has a culinary tradition of some 4,000 years. Ancient Greek cuisine was characterized by its frugality and was founded on the "Mediterranean triad": wheat, olive oil, and wine, with meat being rarely eaten and fish being more common .This trend in Greek diet continued in Roman and Ottoman times and changed only fairly recently when technological progress has made meat more available. Wine and olive oil have always been a central part of it and the spread of grapes and olive trees in the Mediterranean and further afield is correlated with Greek colonization. The Greek cuisine is comprised of: •Kritiki (Cretan cuisine) •Ipirotiki (Epirotic cuisine) •Cuisine of the Ionian islands •Cuisine of the Aegean islands Wine The origins of wine-making in Greece go back 6,500 years and evidence suggesting wine production confirm that Greece is home to the oldest known grape wine remnants discovered in the world and the world’s earliest evidence of crushed grapes.
