Juventus host AS Monaco FC in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie between two sides seeking a first semi-final appearance in over a decade. • The Italian champions reached this stage by defeating Borussia Dortmund 5-1 on aggregate, while Monaco overcame Arsenal FC on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw. • Juventus boast an unbeaten home record against French opponents, which contrasts starkly with their visitors' own record of never having won in Italy. Previous meetings • Juventus, the eventual tournament runners-up, prevailed 6-4 on aggregate when the sides met in the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League semi-finals. • In the first leg, Marcello Lippi's Juventus won 4-1 at the Stadio Delle Alpi where Alessandro Del Piero hit a hat-trick (including two penalties) and Zinédine Zidane added a late fourth. • The lineups in Turin on 1 April 1998 were: Juventus: Peruzzi, Torricelli (Conte 59), Montero, Iuliano, Pessotto (Birindelli 46), Di Livio (Tacchinardi 66), Davids, Deschamps, Zidane, Del Piero, Inzaghi. Monaco: Barthez, Sagnol, Konjić, Christanval, Martin (Henry 68), Djetou, Diawara, Pignol (Costinha 38), Benarbia (Carnot 74), Ikpeba, Trezeguet. • Jean Tigana's Monaco won the second leg 3-2, their scorers including Thierry Henry, who joined Juventus for a seven-month spell the following year. Match background Juventus • Two-time European champions Juventus are seeking a first semi-final appearance since 2002/03, when they beat FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals after following up a 1-1 home draw with a 2-1 away win. • Since then Juventus have fallen at the quarter-final hurdle on three occasions, most recently when losing 4-0 on aggregate to FC Bayern München in 2012/13. Their overall record in European Cup quarter-finals is W10 L5. • Juventus are unbeaten in 11 home matches in UEFA competition and have won three out of four games in Turin in this campaign, including a 2-1 success against Dortmund in the round of 16. • Overall, the Bianconeri have lost just one of 16 European home fixtures at the redeveloped Juventus Stadium (W9 D6 L1). • Juventus have won all ten of their knockout ties against French teams. • Juve have never lost at home against French opposition, their record reading W9 D2 L0. In last season's UEFA Europa League quarter-finals they defeated Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 in Turin to complete a 3-1 aggregate success. Monaco • Monaco are eyeing their first UEFA Champions League semi-final since 2003/04, the season they went all the way to the final for the first and so far only time. • Their record at this stage of the competition is W2 L1. There were no quarter-finals when they progressed directly from the group stage to the semi-finals in 1993/94. • This is Monaco's first meeting with Italian opposition since their 1998 UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat by Juve. They have won just one of six previous knockout ties against teams from . • That solitary success was a 1-0 aggregate win over AS Roma in the 1991/92 European Cup Winners' Cup quarter- finals. Their goalless draw in Rome that season was the only time they have avoided defeat in six trips to Italy (W0 D1 L5 F2 A13). • Monaco are looking for a third straight away victory in the current competition after winning 1-0 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the group stage and 3-1 at Arsenal in the round of 16. They have conceded just two goals in four away games thus far. Coach and player links • Massimiliano Allegri's first match as a coach in UEFA competition was against Ligue 1 opposition – a 2-0 home win against AJ Auxerre with AC Milan in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage. Milan also won 2-0 in France. • As a Monaco player from 2002–06, Patrice Evra made 120 league appearances and played for the club in the

As a Porto player, Carvalho had previously faced Juve in the 2001/02 first group stage (0-0 h, 1-3 a), lining up against Gianluigi Buffon. • Dimitar Berbatov played with Evra at Manchester United FC, where the Bulgarian was also a team-mate of Carlos Tévez (2007–09) and Paul Pogba (2010–12). • Layvin Kurzawa played alongside Pogba when making his France debut against Albania in November. • Álvaro Morata was a team-mate of Fabinho and Carvalho at Real Madrid CF in 2012/13. • Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Raggi were team-mates at Empoli FC in 2007/08. • Jérémy Toulalan, together with Evra, was in the France side that suffered UEFA EURO 2008 elimination with a 2-0 loss to the Italy of Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Pirlo. • Maarten Stekelenburg played for AS Roma between 2011 and 2013. His record against Juventus in league and cup was W1 D1 L3, with 12 goals conceded. • Stephan Lichtsteiner played for LOSC Lille from 2005–08. His record in Ligue 1 matches against Monaco was W1 D2 L2. Last summer he was in the Switzerland side beaten 5-2 by France at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. • France's 1998 World Cup winners David Trezeguet, Lilian Thuram and Henry each played for both clubs. Match facts Juventus • Lichtsteiner, Morata, Pogba, and Arturo Vidal are all a booking away from a ban. • Having not conceded in their previous six games in all competitions, Juventus lost only their second Serie A game this season on Saturday, going down 1-0 away to bottom side Parma FC. Several players were rested with the Monaco game in mind. • January signing Alessandro Matri scored the first goal of his second spell with Juventus as Allegri's men triumphed 3-0 at Fiorentina on 7 April to reach the final of the Coppa Italia. Morata was sent off late on and will miss the final against SS Lazio on 7 June. • Marchisio sustained a knee injury in training while on international duty with Italy but recovered to play 90 minutes against Fiorentina and Parma. Tévez and Lichtsteiner missed the game in Florence with minor muscle problems, though the latter featured against Parma. • Pirlo has not played since the first leg against Dortmund because of a calf injury. Martín Cáceres (ankle) and Pogba (thigh) are still sidelined. • Morata scored on his first competitive start for Spain as the holders defeated Ukraine 1-0 in a UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier on 27 March. • On 31 March, Gianluigi Buffon extended his record as Italy's most-capped player (147 appearances) when he started the 1-1 friendly draw with England. • Allegri last month received the Enzo Bearzot coaching award. The accolade, handed out by the Italian Christian Workers' Association under the patronage of the FIGC, is named after Italy's 1982 World Cup-winning trainer. Monaco • Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, João Moutinho and Kurzawa will all incur a suspension with their next bookings. • Monaco have won two, both away, and drawn two, both at home, of their four matches since the 2-0 home defeat by Arsenal on 17 March. • Leonardo Jardim's men have the best away record in Ligue 1 this season, having collected 32 points from 16 games. • Anthony Martial has scored nine goals in 2015. His effort against SM Caen on Friday set Monaco en route to a 3-0 away win. • Raggi (out since 1 February, knee) made his comeback in a 1-1 draw against AS Saint-Étienne on 3 April. Tiémoué Bakayoko (14 January, hamstring) and Lacina Traoré (23 February, shin) are still out. Carvalho sustained a knee injury against Serbia on 29 March, a UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier in which he opened the scoring. He returned to action in Caen. • Toulalan (until June 2017), Danijel Subašić (June 2019), Nabil Dirar and Raggi (both June 2018) signed contract extensions on 9 April.

9 Juventus - AS Monaco FC Tuesday 14 April 2015 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Match press kit Juventus Stadium, Turin Head coach Massimiliano Allegri Date of birth: 11 August 1967 Nationality: Italian Playing career: UC Cuoiopelli, AS Livorno Calcio (twice), Pisa Calcio, AC Pavia, Pescara Calcio (twice), , AC Perugia, Calcio Padova, SSC Napoli, AC Pistoiese, Aglianese Calcio 1923 Coaching career: Aglianese Calcio 1923, SPAL 1907, US Grosseto FC, US Sassuolo Calcio, Cagliari Calcio, AC Milan, Juventus • A creative attacking midfielder, Allegri started out in his native Tuscany with Cuoiopelli and then Livorno, his hometown club. First appeared in Serie A for Pisa against Milan in 1988/89 but played only twice that season before heading back to Livorno. • Returned to Serie A after helping Pescara win promotion in 1992. The following term he scored 12 goals under Giovanni Galeone, the coach Allegri still considers his mentor. After leaving Pescara in 1993, had spells at Cagliari, Perugia, Padova and Napoli before hanging up his boots back in Tuscany with fourth division Aglianese in 2003. • Moved straight into coaching at Aglianese, prior to taking charge at SPAL and Grosseto. In November 2008 he won the Panchina d'Oro (golden bench) as the third division's best coach having led Sassuolo to promotion. • Had earlier been appointed by Cagliari whom he led to ninth place in 2009, winning the Panchina d'Oro again, this time as Serie A's best coach. A bad run of results the following season prompted Allegri's dismissal on 13 April 2010 – although he had already done enough to earn a two-year contract at Milan. • Allegri's first season at San Siro ended with his new club winning the Scudetto for the first time since 2004. Dismissed in January 2014 with Milan 11th in Serie A, that summer he was appointed to succeed Antonio Conte at Juventus. Leonardo Jardim Date of birth: 1 August 1974 Nationality: Portuguese Coaching career: AD Camacha, GD Chaves, SC Beira-Mar, SC Braga, Olympiacos FC, Sporting Clube de Portugal, AS Monaco FC • Played football at an amateur level during his youth and despite taking a passing interest in handball, it was always Jardim's intention to become a coach. As a result he studied physical education at the University of Madeira, and at 24 became the youngest Portuguese coach to obtain a UEFA A licence. • Three years later, in 2001, appointed assistant coach at Madeiran club Camacha, where he impressed sufficiently to take charge of first-team duties two years later. Left to join Chaves midway through 2007/08, masterminding rise to the second division 18 months later. • Also won promotion at Beira-Mar after taking charge in summer 2009 and preserved their top-flight status the following season before stepping down. • Signed a three-year contract when he succeeded Domingos Paciência at Braga in 2011 but left after only one having guided the club to a third-placed finish, helped by a record-breaking 13 successive league wins at the turn of the year, and into the UEFA Europa League round of 16. • Confirmed as the new coach of Olympiacos in June 2012, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract, but dismissed the following January despite a ten-point lead in the league. Resurfaced at Sporting, leading the club to second place in the 2013/14 Portuguese Liga; subsequently succeeded Claudio Ranieri at Monaco.

UEFA Champions League: Did you know? • In 2012/13, Chelsea FC became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, FC Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and lost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to PFC CSKA Moskva. • No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy with AC Milan (1989, 1990) the last club to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), AFC Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester United FC (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose. • SS Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featured against Real Madrid CF on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldest outfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens FC in 2006/07. • Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in AS Roma's 1-1 draw at PFC CSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder. • Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute. • Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195 days. He found the net in Olympiacos FC's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg BK on 1 October 1997. • Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 7 March 2012, a feat matched by FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at FC BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Ten more players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Zlatan Ibrahimović for Paris Saint-Germain on matchday three in 2013/14. • Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League stage with nine goals in 2013/14, whiich Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15. Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud van Nistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight. • Barcelona have finished as group winners on 16 occasions, two more than Manchester United and Real Madrid. • FC Bayern München hold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten, from 2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013. That surpassed the previous mark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. RSC Anderlecht's 12 straight defeats (10 December 2003 to 23 November 2005) is also a competition record. • Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain (1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid (2011/12 and 2014/15). • Sixteen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, most recently Olympique de Marseille in 2013/14. • Real Madrid scored 20 goals in the 2013/14 group stage, equalling the competition record held jointly by Manchester United (1998/99) and Barcelona (2011/12). Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage, a tally matched by Real Madrid in 2012/13. • Only RC Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05) and Maccabi Haifa FC (2009/10) have failed to score in a group stage. • FC BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in the 2014/15, a new record. The previous mark, 22, was held by GNK Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and FC Nordsjælland (2012/13). The next highest total is 19, shared by Galatasaray AŞ (2014/15), MŠK Žilina (2010/11), Debreceni VSC (2009/10), FC Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08) and Ferencvárosi TC (1995/96). • No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool FC (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11) and AS Monaco FC (2014/15) all let in just one. • Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, a mark FC Steaua Bucureşti surpassed on matchday six in 2013/14. • The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: FC Zenit in 2013/14. Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia Warszawa (1995/96),

Dynamo Kyiv (1999/2000), Borussia Dortmund (2002/03 – both second group stage), PSV Eindhoven (2003/04), Olympiacos FC and Dynamo Kyiv (both 2004/05), SV Werder Bremen (2006/07), Manchester City FC (2011/12), Chelsea FC and CFR 1907 Cluj (both 2012/13) and SL Benfica (2013/14) all missed out with ten points. • Only two teams have ever won the UEFA Champions League on home soil: Borussia Dortmund (1997, final in Munich) and Juventus (1996, final in Rome), while Manchester United lost the 2011 final in London and 12 months later Bayern were beaten in the showpiece in their own stadium, the Fußball Arena München.
