The taxonomy and distribution of Pacifi c Annonaceae are reviewed in light of recent changes in generic delimitations. A new species of the genus Monoon from the Solomon Archipelago is described, Monoon salomonicum I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov., together with an apparently related new species from New Guinea, Monoon pachypetalum I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov. The confi rmed presence of the genus in the Solomon Islands extends the generic range eastward beyond New Guinea. Two new species of Huberantha are described, Huberantha asymmetrica I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov. and Huberantha whistleri I.M.Turner & Utteridge sp. nov., from the Solomon Islands and Samoa respectively. New combinations are proposed: Drepananthus novoguineensis (Baker f.) I.M.Turner & Utteridge comb. -

En el Perú existen alrededor de 238 especies de Annonaceae (Vásquez & Rojas, 2016), de las cuales 217 especies más 1 variedad son considerados árboles hasta el momento (Vásquez et al., 2018), pero este número irá ascendiendo por el descubrimiento de nuevas especies. Esta familia es ampliamente aprovechada por sus frutos, corteza, fuste y fácilmente reconocida por los “materos” y población que tiene cercanía a los bosques. Una forma de estudiar a esta familia es a través de la revisión de muestras depositadas en Herbarios, donde se registra datos de fenología, distribución, hábitat, usos y nombres vernaculares. Los frutos y semillas son estructuras que presentan ventajas que, al encontrarse secas, se hacen evidentes los surcos, formas, matices, fibras y porosidades que les permite diferenciarse entre especies. El presente trabajo aborda 91 especies, 2 variedades y 2 especímenes identificados a nivel de género para el Perú y 1 especie de Brasil, que equivale a casi el 40% de las especies de Annonaceas en el Perú, es una guía de reconocimiento por medio de las descripciones y fotografías que hacen más fácil su uso para el público en general y profesionales dedicados a la botánica, ciencias forestales, silvicultura, así como para la enseñanza e identificación en campo. -

The pollination ecology and breeding system of the Sri Lankan endemic Xylopia championii (Annonaceae) are described in detail. The pollination ecology was investigated using a diverse range of approaches, including (1) observations of flower-level and population-level phenology, (2) assessments of floral visitors and effective pollinators, (3) monitoring of floral temperature in situ using a digital data logger, and (4) analysis of scent chemistry using solid-phase microextraction sampling and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry identifica- tion of volatiles. -

E-mail: Abstract: The Rondônia Natural Resources Management Project (PLANAFLORO) was a strategic program developed in partnership between the Brazilian Government and The World Bank in 1992, with the purpose of stimulating the sustainable development and protection of the Amazon in the state of Rondônia. More than a decade after the PLANAFORO program concluded, the aim of the present work is to recover and share the information from the long-abandoned plant collections made during the project’s ecological-economic zoning phase. Most of the material analyzed was sterile, but the fertile voucher specimens recovered are listed here. The material examined represents 378 species in 234 genera and 76 families of angiosperms. Some 8 genera, 68 species, 3 subspecies and 1 variety are new records for Rondônia State. It is our intention that this information will stimulate future studies and contribute to a better understanding and more effective conservation of the plant diversity in the southwestern Amazon of Brazil. Er wird unter normalen Bedingungen 8–12 Meter hoch. Die Blätter ähneln Lorbeerblättern und sitzen wechselständig an den Zweigen. Die Blüten bestehen aus drei Kelch- und Kronblättern, sind länglich und von grüngelber Farbe. Sie verströmen einen aasartigen Geruch und locken damit Fliegen zur Bestäubung an. Die Frucht des Guanábana ist eigentlich eine große Beere. Sie wird bis zu 40 Zentimeter lang und bis zu 4 Kilogramm schwer. In dem weichen, weißen Fruchtfleisch sitzen große, schwarze (giftige) Samen. Die Fruchthülle ist mit weichen Stacheln besetzt, welche die Überreste des weiblichen Geschlechtsapparates bilden. Bot. Fennici 44 (Supplement A): 79–132. The bark anatomy of 32 Neotropical genera of Annonaceae was studied. A family description based on Neotropical genera and a discussion of individual bark compo- nents are presented. Selected character states at the family and genus levels are sur- veyed for identification purposes. This is followed by a discussion on the taxonomical and phylogenetic relevance of bark characters according to a phylogram in preparation based on molecular characters. Although the value of many bark anatomical characters turned out to be insignificant in systematic studies of the family, some features lend support to recent phylogenetic results based on morphological and molecular data sets. The taxonomically most informative features of the bark anatomy are sclerification of phellem cells, shape of fibre groups and occurrence of crystals in bark components. ABSTRACT: A phytochemical study of the ethanol extract and an extraction of the volatile compounds, performed by means of Clevenger apparatus were carried out with the stem of Fusaea longifolia (Aubl.) Saff. (Annonaceae). The ethanol extract yielded O-methylmoschatoline, isolated for the fi rst time in this species, and stepholidine, reported for the fi rst time in genus Fusaea. The structural identifi cation of the alkaloids was made based on the analysis of their NMR spectra. Through the use of GC and GC-MS, two sesquiterpenoids, α-cadinol (12.5%) and spatulenol (12.0%) were identifi ed as the major constituents of the essential oil. Plants of the Annonaceae Traditionally Used As Antimalarials: a Review1
315 PLANTS OF THE ANNONACEAE TRADITIONALLY USED AS ANTIMALARIALS: A REVIEW1 GINA FRAUSIN2 , RENATA BRAGA SOUZA LIMA3, ARI DE FREITAS HIDALGO4, PAUL MAAS5, ADRIAN MARTIN POHLIT6 ABSTRACT- Species of the Annonaceae family are used all over the tropics in traditional medicine in tropical regions for the treatment of malaria and other illnesses. Phytochemical studies of this family have revealed chemical components which could offer new alternatives for the treatment and control of malaria. Searches in scientific reference sites (SciFinder Scholar, Scielo, PubMed, ScienceDirect and ISI Web of Science) and a bibliographic literature search for species of Annonaceae used traditionally to treat malaria and fever were carried out. This family contains 2,100 species in 123 genera. We encountered 113 articles reporting medicinal use of one or more species of this family including 63 species in 27 genera with uses as antimalarials and febrifuges. Even though the same species of Annonaceae are used by diverse ethnic groups, different plant parts are often chosen for applications, and diverse methods of preparation and treatment are used. The ethanol extracts of Polyalthia debilis and Xylopia aromatica proved to be quite active against Plasmodium falciparum in vitro (median inhibition concentration, IC50 < 1.5 µg/mL). Intraperitoneal injection of Annickia chlorantha aqueous extracts (cited as Enantia chlorantha) cleared chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium yoelii nigeriensis from the blood of mice in a dose-dependant manner. More phytochemical profiles of Annonaceous species are required; especially information on the more commonly distributed antimalarial compounds in this family.
