We have also grown again. We are up to 17 members now. Shannon has come over from the GP to serve on the NOMAD as Chief Communications officer. Since arriving Shannon has been promoted to Full Lieutenant and is the Editor of this months News letter. The recruiting challenge is on to the 30th of September. A Playmates Type 2 Phaser is the prize. We are also looking for a host for trivia night or we can rotate through. T'Vel has set up a great discord system and we need to start enjoying together as a team. The first Club fundraising walk is on the 26th of this month. Everyone that participates, post or send pics. USS Nomad Discord To all members who have not had a chance to explore or been given a grand tour of the USS Nomad Discord Server, here is your chance. We are going to have a quick walk through of the different rooms and their purposes. Our tour will begin in the mess-hall. This is a the commons area of the ship where everyone is welcome to come in and share casual chats, jokes, and memes. The holodecks are our next destinations. This is the place to show up for fun. Trivia and organized entertainment will be held in these two rooms. Next up is the Science Lab. Is the place to share articles and information about, you guessed it, science. But a lab is more than just an encyclopedia; it’s where you ask questions and explore new possibilities. Want to actually chat with your crewmates without the making sleep-deprived spelling errors? Come check out the General room. This is the place to hang out and chat with your actual voice. While we are in the voice channels, we mustn’t overlook the conference room for official ship’s business meetings. Many fictional beings, particularly robots and androids, seek out being human as a goal. Although current robotics is not advanced enough for robots and androids to be deemed sentient, the world of fiction is quickly becoming reality. With the integration of robots into society, we are confronted not only with how society views robots, but how, through the eyes of fictional robots, society and humanity are defined. This thesis seeks to explore the definition of humanity and what it means to be human. The fictional works of the Star Trek universe and those of Isaac Asimov suggest that relationships, those of friendship and antagonism, and mortality, may also define humanity. Understanding what makes us human better prepares us for the eventual integration of intelligent robots into humanity as well as to imagine what their place in our society will look like.

Dubreuil 1, Sergii Koliada April 6, 2014 Abstract: Prompted by previous research results we analysed human decision processes for unconscious patterns. Like former studies [1, 2] we were able to find law-like patterns that were not consciously created. We calculated the residual uncertainty about the pattern to 1 : 1,000,000,000 and proved a high correlation ratio for the data source related to the found pattern through an intra class correlation test (3.2). We showed that conscious (3.3) and unconscious human behaviour and natural selection (3.4) are not able to explain this result. This includes the possibility to prove Intelligent Design (3.4). We first used the gained data set for intraclass and interclass analysis. Then we searched for other unusual characteristics. There were 318 bit strings entered with an average length of 80 digits. We discovered, that not a single time „00000000“ or „11111111“ were entered. By assuming true randomness for 318*80 = 25440 digits, we should have found a bit string composed of exact 8 equal digits about 100 times.

The kingpin has been the transmission control protocol (TCP), which supports a large fraction of communication. With the Internet’s wide- spread access, users now have increased expectations. The demands have evolved to an extent which TCP was never designed to support. Since network stacks do not provide the necessary functionality for modern applications, developers are forced to implement them over and over again — as part of the application or supporting libraries. Consequently, application developers not only bear the burden of developing application features but are also responsible for building networking libraries to support sophisticated scenarios. This leads to considerable duplication of effort. The challenge for TCP in supporting modern use cases is mostly due to limiting assumptions, simplis- tic communication abstractions, and (once expedient) implementation shortcuts. To further add to the complexity, the limited TCP options space is insufficient to support extensibility and thus, contemporary communication patterns. Some argue that radical changes are required to extend the networks func- tionality; some researchers believe that a clean slate approach is the only path forward.

Important supporting cast members such as Garak, Gul Dukat, Nurse Chapel, etc. have not been included in this analysis. I analyzed the ethnic, gender, and species makeup of Star Trek cast members just out of interest. This isn't an attempt to make any kind of statement. I find it interesting, but I don't care either way. I don't think there needs to be "more" of any group or "less" of any group. If the characters and stories are interesting and the shows are well made, that's what is important. If the Enterprise had a Korean captain, a Korean first officer, a Korean science officer, a Korean chief medical officer, a Korean helmsman, and a Korean-Vulcan communications officer, I would still watch it if the characters and stories were interesting. Even if all of these characters were all men. Even if they're all Jewish men. In fact, they could all be Jewish rabbis. It could still be fascinating. Maybe they all have slighly different positions on the Torah, and their viewpoints color how they interpret the Prime Directive. (No, I'm not a Korean Jew.)
