2 Raonale

— Land development in countries with diverse physiography need technological intervenons

—Pakistan’s territorial landscape comprises, deserts, snow packed and dry mountainous ranges, arid and dry plateau, ferle agriculture lands and extensive man made irrigaon system

3 Introducon

—Geospaal technology is operaonal at macro and micro scales for land use planning and management in Pakistan

—Country level landuse is being developed using remote sensing, GIS and

GNSS technologies —Technology is also in use at farm level for monitoring of agriculture land, crops and crop producon

4 Integrated Approach

—Geospaal technologies for baseline mapping of landuse and temporal changes

—Precision mapping through GNSS

—Locaon based real me disseminaon of micro level (Farms) informaon i.e. soil ferlity, crop sown, crop producon etc

Contd... 5 Integrated Approach

6 Geospaal Technologies Geographic Informaon System (GIS)

—To address ‘which’, ‘what’ and ‘where’, relaonships and store auxiliary informaon on landuse for analysis

7 GIS Land use

"Land use is characterised by the arrangements, acvies and inputs people undertake in a certain land cover type to produce, change or maintain it" (FAO/UNEP, 1999)

Computer System Mobile Applicaon

Android based smart phone applicaon data collecon related to agriculture field. Capability to collect data with the minimum user inputs Enriched with the GNSS capabilies to store precise locaon field/crop Historical data connecvity for verificaon and onsite selecon Camera integraon to snap ground photo of crop to monitor actual crop growth/condion

18 Field Data Collecon

Field survey plan: Selecon of segment for survey from land use Seasonal survey plan with team informaon Survey start date me stamp Precise locaon informaon Central server for real me data transmission Local database for offline records

Contd... 19 Field Data Collecon

Field Informaon: Informaon regarding agriculture field within the segment (Actual area, crop harvested, owner name and producon history) Addional remarks/observaons regarding parcular field, latude/longitude of surveyed field and date me of survey. Geospaal data mapped on GIS Geo-tagged ground photo Synch to spaal database on server and on local device in offline mode

Contd... 20 Field Data Collecon

Ground Informaon: Overall segment observaon Informaon related to segment like sowing paerns, sowing date, soil type, crop growth, major crop, irrigaon system and addional remarks/observaons regarding overall segment. All informaon is tagged with precise locaon and date me stamp

21 Communicaon Server applicaon

Data connecons status between field and central locaon Validaon of records Parsing of received data to respecve database fields Validaon of locaon informaon with its posion stored in database at server end Entries to spaal database Binding ground photos and geospaal informaon at central locaon Summary of received data and acve surveys

22 Central Repository

—Central repository acts as central server

—Binds GIS and field geospaal informaon for viewing, analysis and reporng

23 Reporng

General Information (Village)

Crop Summary (Village) 24 Implementaon at Crop Reporng Services

—Hands on training for stake holders —Demonstraon of the system for data collecon in the field

25 Conclusion

•Use of geospaal technology at macro and micro levels is highly effecve and efficient in land use planning and management •Integrang technology is cost and me effecent soluon
