Nowhere in Europe is the game of Rugby growing as it is in Spain. To many, Spain were shock qualifiers for the Rugby Sev- ens at the Rio Olympics in 2016, but to those who’ve followed the game saw it as a snapshot of things to come. Ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan, Spain dominated the Eu- ropean Qualifying stage. They beat the best of the rest in the continent and sat top of the group & looked forward to opening RWC2019 against the hosts in Tokyo. However, a hugely unfortu- nate player registration saw them docked points & magnanimously pushed below Russia who will now take that honour. Don’t expect this to be the end of it though. Sky High Sports has worked alongside the Federación Española de Rugby (Spanish Rugby Federation) since 2013. Ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015, each provincial union in England was partnered with a European Rugby Country. Our home province was twinned with Spain & we were fortunate to be involved from the outset. Behind London & Berlin, Madrid is the third largest city in Eu- rope. Despite having no Eiffel Tower, Coliseum or Sagrada Fami- glia as a city icon, Madrid lacks nothing. The combination of grand old squares and sharp new buildings makes this one beau- tiful city & a necessity on the wandering hotspot. Often trumped into second place on many peoples Spanish bucket list by the Catalan tearaway in the east, Madrid, for us, is Spain’s most spectacular city. The city takes life at a slower pace than Barcelona. The high- lights are all within walking distance and life here does not feel like a constant self-assassination by Credit Card. The scent of orange blossom, the thrash of a flamenco guitar, the glimpse of a white village perched spectacularly atop a crag: memories of Andalucía stay with you like collected souve- nirs. Immortalised in operas and vividly depicted in 19th-century artworks, Andalucía often acts as a synonym for Spain as a whole - a sun-dappled, fiesta-loving land of guitar-wielding troubadours, reckless bullfighters, feisty operatic heroines and roguish Roma singers wailing sad laments.
