Victor Dominello MP NSW Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello was elected as Member for Ryde at a by-election in October 2008. He was made a Minister following the 2011 State Election. Victor Dominello is a senior Minister in the Berejiklian Government and has held various portfolios over 8 years including Aboriginal Affairs, Better Regulation and Finance. He has been appointed the inaugural Minister for Customer Service. The first of its kind in the country, this ministry aims to put the customer and citizen first in the design of all government services. Victor firmly believes that the adoption of data, digital innovation and technology is integral in modern policy design and delivery of public services. Digital design has been a key pillar of the various policy reforms and initiatives which he has led. I am proud to introduce the Gas Legislation Amendment (Medical Gas Systems) Bill 2020. The bill delivers on the New South Wales Government's promise to introduce a robust and effective licensing regulatory system for persons who carry out medical gas work. As I said on 18 June on behalf of the Government in opposing the Hon. Mark Buttigieg's private member's bill, nobody wants to see a tragedy repeated like the one we saw at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. As I undertook then, the Government has taken the steps necessary to provide a strong, robust licensing framework for those persons installing and working on medical gases in New South Wales. To the families of John Ghanem and Amelia Khan, on behalf of the Government I repeat my commitment that we are taking action to ensure no other families will have to endure as they have. The bill forms a key part of the Government's response to licensed work for medical gases that are supplied in medical facilities in New South Wales.

The author invites any people with more photos or information concerning Barristers who served in the war to pass them on for inclusion in the project. 2 A Note on Sources It has been a challenge tracking down details of people some 65 years after the end of the war. The first stage was to generate an Honour Roll. Initially I used lists in the Law Almanac from 1943/1944 which published basic details of those Barristers and solicitors who had served in the armed forces. Many men who were subsequently admitted to the Bar also served and I have included them as well. Their names were initially located by matching lists from the post war Law Almanacs with Databases of service personnel. Searching through the database of the State Archives and then the Law Almanac gave many names and details of men who went on to become Queens Counsel or served on the bench. Many generous members of the Bar and the Judiciary (too many to mention here, but they are much appreciated) as well as the general public supplied further details in response to public requests for information through Bar Brief and the RSVP section of the Sydney Morning Herald. Eventually information came from around Australia and overseas, including Hawaii and Istanbul in Turkey.

We had a large number of guests from the local Dutch community and several made their own contribution to the story of the Dutch in our local area. Museum curator Emma Williams then gave us a quick preview of what to expect when the exhibition ‘Albury & Australia’s Dutch Connections’ gets under way at Albury Library Museum on September 28. President Greg Ryan informed the meeting that Albury City Council has made it known that the owners of ‘Meramie’ at 595 Kiewa St have submitted revised plans for demolition and then residential development on the site. Our submission in 2018 opposing the first development application was significant in saving the historic building.

    Chapter 5 – New South Wales Founded in righteous anger to ‘redress imbalance’ In 1963, Ken Buckley led a group to form the NSW Council for Civil Liberties. The telling and re-telling of the story of the incident which spawned the formation of the NSWCCL is etched into our family history, co-author Dr Kristine Klugman writes. “Knowing Buckley as I did, it is entirely in character that he took umbrage at police behaviour, and was so incensed by their brutal disregard for people’s rights that he persisted for the next 40 years in redressing the power imbalance,” she said. Buckley: “..the time was ripe for the formation of an organisation committed to extending and defending civil liberties and for me, social justice before the law was part of my socialist objective for a better society. The fit was perfect.”1 Three thugs from NSW Police’s infamous Kings Cross vice squad raided a party in February 1963. Their behaviour, even for those days, was excessively intimidating and aggressive, but they had picked the wrong group to stand over. Buckley got some mates together – initially the then-medical doctor Dick Klugman and then-industrial relations barrister Jack Sweeney – to form the NSWCCL. Buckley was the lynchpin. That righteous anger sustained him for over four decades, in which he dedicated his life to making a real difference and improving ‘justice and freedom for all’.2 Buckley was a streetfighter, agitator, historian and academic.3 Kenneth Donald Buckley was born in Hackney, London. He went to school in Kent, and was studying economics when co-opted into British intelligence in WW2.
