Uitvoeringsagenda Recreatie & Toerisme Flevoland 2018
Visit Flevoland
FLEVOLAND OBVIOUSLY DIFFERENT ONLY 20 MINUTES FROM AMSTERDAM THE PERFECT DESTINATION FOR AN EASY DAY TRIP OR A SHORT BREAK FOUR METRES BELOW SEA LEVEL FLEVOLAND OBVIOUSLY DIFFERENT 2 Quite an accomplishment, building an entire province from scratch. Still, that’s exactly how Flevoland came into being: manmade land, a good four metres below sea level and secured by miles of dykes. But then Flevoland is never really finished. Probably something to do with that twentieth-century soil under our feet we reckon; it seems to exert an effect on people. Nowhere else offers more space for innovative ideas than right here. As all Flevolanders are well aware: the sky is the limit. JUST DO IT Taken together, Flevoland’s three polders form the largest piece of manmade land on the planet. The islands which already existed in the Zuiderzee (Schokland and Urk) were marooned in the new land when the sea was drained. Things happen here like nowhere else. How about an open air three kilometres long artificial ice-skating track? Need a wind break... we simply put up wind turbines. And if a dyke needs to be rebuilt, we go for it in an entirely new way. 3 DESIGNED LAND, WILD LAND Everything you see was created on the drawing board. The orderly parcels of agricultural land. The straight roads. The canals. And of course: the spaces dedicated to nature. These designated areas of natural beauty have continued to develop to become fasci- nating wild polder landscapes. A good example is the extensive wetland area in the Nieuw Land National Park, another is the Netherlands’ largest continuous deciduous woods. -

Anti-Agreement
Anti-Agreement by Nicholas Benson Baier A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley Committee in charge: Professor Peter Jenks, Chair Professor Line Mikkelsen Professor Amy Rose Deal Professor Johanna Nichols Summer 2018 Anti-Agreement Copyright 2018 by Nicholas Benson Baier 1 Abstract Anti-Agreement by Nicholas Benson Baier Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics University of California, Berkeley Professor Peter Jenks, Chair In this dissertation, I investigate the sensitivity of φ-agreement to features typically associated with Ā-extraction, including those related to wh-questioning, relativization, fo- cus and topicalization. This phenomenon has been referred to as anti-agreement (Ouhalla 1993) or wh-agreement (Chung and Georgopoulos 1988; Georgopoulos 1991; Chung 1994) in the literature. While anti-agreement is commonly held to result from constraints on the Ā-movement of agreeing DPs, I argue that it reduces to an instance of wh-agreement, or the appearance of particular morphological forms in the presence of Ā-features. I de- velop a unified account of these Ā-sensitive φ-agreement effects in which they arise from the ability of φ- probes to copy both φ-features and Ā-features in the syntax, coupled with postsyntactic morphological operations that manipulate feature bundles containing both [φ] and [Ā]. The empirical foundation of the work is a typological survey of Ā-sensitive φ-agree- ment effects in 63 genetically and geographically diverse languages. This study isthe largest of its kind to examine these effects, and brings to light new generalizations both about the syntax of Ā-sensitive φ-agreement effects and the behavior of φ-features inthe presence of Ā-features. -

Van Herpen EARLY POPULISM AND THE MURDERS OF FORTUYN AND VAN GOGH The Netherlands is known as a tolerant and liberal country, where extremist ideas – rightwing or leftwing – don’t have much impact. After the Second World War extreme right or populist parties played only a marginal role in Dutch politics. There were some small fringe movements, such as the Farmers’ Party ( Boerenpartij ), led by the maverick “Boer Koekoek,” which, in 1967, won 7 seats in parliament. In 1981 this party lost its parliamentary representation and another party emerged, the extreme right Center Party ( Centrum Partij ), led by Hans Janmaat. -
State of Affairs in Europe
State of affairs in Europe Workshop of Transform and Rosa Luxem- burg Foundation, July 7- 9 2016 Franz-Mehring-Platz 1, 10243 Berlin Documentation Cornelia Hildebrandt/Luci Wagner 30.07.2017 DOCUMENTATION: BERLIN SEMINAR 2016 2 Introduction This documentation is produced as a material outcome of the two days workshop that was organised by transform! Europe and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation on 7 - July 2019 in Berlin under the title “State of affairs in Europe”. This European seminar aimed to bring together left-wing political actors and scholars to debate the possibilities of common perspectives and political action of the Left in Europe. When the preparation process of this seminar started the political landscape was of course different. Against the backdrop of blackmail of SYRIZA government in the nego- tiations with the institutions , further cuts to pensions and social benefits make the mass protests against these measures as against the implementation of the privatization, the continuation of neoliberal politics, the alarming soar of the far right in numerous coun- tries, but also the introduction of a progressive government in Portugal with the support of the left parties , the electoral success of Unidos Podemos in Spain etc., we believed that a new determination of the positioning of the Left is necessary. This is still our be- lief, despite the crucial and controversial developments that took place in Europe during 2017. In 2016 a respectable number of conferences, seminars and debates had been taken place (especially the foundation and conferences of DiEM-25, the conference ‘Building alliances to Fight Austerity and to Reclaim Democracy’ in Athens organized by trans- form!, the Party of the European Left and Nicos Poulantzas Institute, the “Plan B” - con- ferences and the strategy conference of the RLS). -

More specifically, it focuses on the owner-operators, deckhands, fishermen’s wives and others involved in the fisheries of Texel, an island in the north- western part of the Netherlands. Braving Troubled Waters Troubled Braving The book attempts to situate their occupational community at the interface of local and (supra)-national processes and aims to show how the latter affect the socio-cultural fabric of the island’s fishing villages and prompt particular responses in the fishermen’s perceptions and modes of action. -

Could the Netherlands' Referendum on Ukraine Really Create a 'Continental
Could the Netherlands’ referendum on Ukraine really create a ‘continental crisis’? blogs.lse.ac.uk/europpblog/2016/01/26/could-the-netherlands-referendum-on-ukraine-really-create-a-continental-crisis/ 1/26/2016 A referendum is scheduled in the Netherlands on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement signed in 2014. Simon Otjes writes on the domestic political developments that led to the referendum being called and what the implications of a ‘no’ vote could be. He notes that while it is likely the agreement would simply be modified if Dutch voters reject it, the referendum will lay the foundations for the next parliamentary elections in 2017. On 6 April, the Netherlands will hold a referendum on the Association Agreement signed between the European Union and Ukraine in 2014. The Economist has characterised the referendum as ‘bizarre’; while the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has warned that a ‘no’ vote could lead to ‘a continental crisis’. But why has a referendum been called and how is the campaign shaping up? And what will be the implications of the vote? Why is the referendum being held? The referendum was called by a popular initiative, with 427,939 Dutch citizens signing a petition to ask that the government organise it. The driving force behind the petition was the so called ‘GeenPeil’ initiative, a joint venture between the right-wing, ‘shock-blog’ GeenStijl and two Eurosceptic organisations, the Forum for Democracy and Citizen Committee EU. The latter two organisations brought a citizen initiative to parliament in 2014, which would require a referendum for any transfer of sovereignty to the EU. -
