Minnesota Wild Excited to Continue Its Support of the Minnesota Whitecaps During Inaugural Nwhl Season Tria Rink to Serve As Home of the Minnesota Whitecaps For Immediate Release Contacts: Aaron Sickman, Minnesota Wild (651) 602-6009 Monday, Aug. 13, 2018 Megan Kogut, Minnesota Wild (651) 312-3439 Chris Botta, NWHL (516) 647-3755 MINNESOTA WILD EXCITED TO CONTINUE ITS SUPPORT OF THE MINNESOTA WHITECAPS DURING INAUGURAL NWHL SEASON TRIA RINK TO SERVE AS HOME OF THE MINNESOTA WHITECAPS SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the development and visibility of girls’ and women’s hockey in the State of Hockey, the Minnesota Wild today announced it will provide far-ranging support of the Whitecaps in their inaugural NWHL season in 2018-19, bringing added visibility to the NWHL, its newest organization and women’s hockey. This includes hosting the team’s games and practices at TRIA Rink; the Wild sharing their extensive resources, including support in marketing, promotions, communications, social and digital media, and community relations; and pairing of the clubs’ regular season home openers on Oct. 6. “The Wild has been a proud supporter of the Minnesota Whitecaps since their inception in 2004,” said Jamie Spencer, Executive Vice President of Business Development of the Minnesota Wild. “As the Whitecaps get set to debut in the NWHL this season at TRIA Rink, the Wild is proud to shine an even brighter light on this great team so girls across the State of Hockey can see that they can achieve the dream of playing professional hockey.” Among the cross-promotional efforts of the organizations, the Whitecaps will participate with the Wild at the Minnesota State Fair and in a series of youth hockey initiatives led by the Wild, including Girls Hockey Weekend presented by Schwan’s Home Service, Inc., the Faceoff for Fitness school assembly program and the Little Wild Learn to Play Program presented by Hy-Vee. In addition, the Whitecaps’ first-ever NWHL regular season game will now be part of a joint celebration marking the home openers of both teams. The Whitecaps’ historic game on Saturday, Oct. 6 against the Metropolitan Riveters at TRIA Rink has been moved to 4 p.m., so hockey fans can take part in that event before the Wild face the Golden Knights in their home opener at Xcel Energy Center at 7:00 p.m. Season tickets for the club’s eight regular season games at TRIA Rink are available now at NWHL.zone/tickets. The NWHL, which began in 2015, expanded in May from its Founding Four franchises by acquiring the Whitecaps. The league owns and operates the club, with assistance from league-hired employees based in Minnesota. “Starting with our All-Star Game and the Whitecaps’ NWHL launch earlier this year, the Wild have been incredibly supportive, and we’re deeply appreciative that they’re increasing their participation in the Whitecaps’ inaugural season,” said NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan. Added original Whitecaps player Winny Brodt Brown, “The Whitecaps are looking forward to teaming up with the Wild to advance the game of hockey across all levels, and to partnering with them on many projects to benefit our community.” -- MORE -- The Wild-Whitecaps alignment is the third of its kind for the NWHL. The New Jersey Devils formed a partnership in October of 2017 with the Riveters, and two months later, Pegula Sports and Entertainment – owners of the Buffalo Sabres and Bills, among other area sports teams – became the first private owners of an NWHL team when they purchased the Buffalo Beauts. About the Minnesota Whitecaps Founded in 2004, the Whitecaps begin NWHL play in the 2018-19 season with a team that includes U.S. Olympic gold medalists Hannah Brandt, Kendall Coyne Schofield and Lee Stecklein. About TRIA Rink TRIA Rink is located on the fifth floor of Treasure Island Center. This unique redevelopment project saw the transformation of a 1960s era department store, which had been vacant since 2013, into a modern, mixed-use facility. Floor-to-ceiling windows replaced a full-brick front, offering sweeping views of Wabasha Street and parts of the downtown Saint Paul skyline. TRIA Rink is a true community asset with six public locker rooms and seating for 1,200. Up to 5,000 hours of ice time will be available to the public each year, driving more than 600,000 people to downtown Saint Paul each year.     BRIDGEPORT SOUND TIGERS: COACHES BIOS BRENT THOMPSON - HEAD COACH Brent Thompson is in his seventh season as head coach of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which also marks his ninth year in the New York Islanders organization. Thompson was originally hired to coach the Sound Tigers on June 28, 2011 and led the team to a division title in 2011-12 before being named assistant South Division coach of the Islanders for two seasons (2012-14). On May 2, 2014, the Islanders announced Thompson would return to his role as head coach of the Sound Tigers. He is 246-203-50 in 499 career regular-season games as Bridgeport's head coach. Thompson became the Sound Tigers' all-time winningest head coach on Jan. 28, 2017, passing Jack Capuano with his 134th career victory. Prior to his time in Bridgeport, Thompson served as head coach of the Alaska Aces (ECHL) for two years (2009-11), winning the Kelly Cup Championship in 2011. During his two seasons as head coach in Alaska, Thompson amassed a record of 83- 50-11 and won the John Brophy Award as ECHL Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading the team to a record of 47-22-3. Thompson also served as a player/coach with the CHL’s Colorado Eagles in 2003-04 and was an assistant with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen from 2005-09. Before joining the coaching ranks, Thompson enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career from 1991-2005, which included 121 NHL games and more than 900 professional contests. The Calgary, AB native was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (39th overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Alex Woken and Patti Marshall of the University of Minnesota, Presley Norby and Maddie Rowe of the University of Wisconsin and Haley Mack of Bemidji State University were selected by the Minnesota Whitecaps in this year’s draft. The first and second rounds aired on April 28 while the final three rounds were concluded on April 29. Woken earned the first nod of the former WCHA skaters. The Fargo, N.D., native heard her name called in the first round as the Minnesota Whitecaps claimed the 2019-20 WCHA Student-Athlete of the Year with the fifth-overall pick. Marshall followed her former teammate when the Whitecaps selected her in the second round with the 11th-overall pick. Norby joins Woken and Marshall on the Whitecaps roster after Minnesota selected the Wisconsin forward in the third round with the 17th-overall pick. Bemidji State became the third university to see one of their players selected in this year’s draft as Mack went to the Whitecaps with 23rd-overall pick. Rowe rounded out the handful of Whitecaps draftees as the 2019 Isobel Cup Champions chose the former Badgers defender in the fifth round with the 28th -overall pick.

He didn’t even glance at a group of New York Islanders swarming forward Matt Martin to celebrate their fifth goal Thursday night. Dahlin, now a 20-year-old defenseman and 164 games into a National Hockey League career that began with his selection first overall at the 2018 draft, skated toward the Buffalo Sabres’ bench and used his right hand to lift his stick in the air to signal for a line change. Martin, a fourth-line grinder known more for his right hook than scoring touch, had just skated by Dahlin and across the front of the Sabres’ net before jamming the puck past goalie Jonas Johansson to seal the Islanders' 5- 2 win. In years past, Dahlin’s frustration might have boiled over. One of the NHL’s bright young defensemen, Dahlin has grown accustomed to the sometimes overwhelming emotion that comes with failure. He’s experienced more than his fair share during his third season in the NHL. Entering Monday, Dahlin owned a league-worst minus-21 rating – on pace for minus-75 if this were an 82-game season – and advanced metrics illustrate how he’s struggling at times to adjust to a bigger role defensively. “It comes (down to forgetting) things, it comes (down) to working harder,” Dahlin said matter of factly. “You are allowed to get (upset) at yourself.
