MEDIA STATEMENT DATE: 15 NOVEMBER 2018 FORREST REVEALS RAPID FUTURE FOR SPORT IN ASIA A revolutionary sports and entertainment concept is set to sweep the Asia Pacific region with Andrew Forrest’s new-look elite-rugby competition receiving a critical tick of approval. The World Rugby Council conditionally sanctioned a bold new sporting brand, Global Rapid Rugby, overnight. The 2019 season would kick-off in late February with teams competing for an AUD$1 million first prize. Once official approval is granted by all participating playing unions, a new era in sports and entertainment will begin. Rapid Rugby details that can now be unveiled include… • Eight teams across the Asia Pacific • 14 rounds, 56 games plus four finals • Up to 20 of the world’s best players as competition marquees • A fast-paced, 70-minute total game time • New and revised laws to increase ball in play time towards 55% • A dynamic, viewer-friendly 90-minute total broadcast product • Exciting stadium entertainment at every game, everywhere Global Rapid Rugby founder Andrew Forrest AO described the World Rugby Council decision as an historic moment for the sport, all sports fans and the Asia Pacific. “It has not been a simple road,” he said while commending World Rugby for supporting his vision in a Social Media video announcing the proposed look and feel of Rapid Rugby in 2019. “I’d like to thank everyone that has been bold and brave enough to support this brand-new competition. Like all sports, rugby needs to evolve. 2020- 2021 HKRU MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS CAS PROGRAMME WHAT CAN STUDENTS EXPECT FROM THE MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAMME? Following the success of the HKRU Medical CAS programme, the HKRU are now offering an opportunity for school students (Y12-13) to join a Marketing & Communications programme. This programme will provide students with basic Marketing & Communications training, and the opportunity to put their skills to the test alongside one of six Hong Kong Premiership Rugby Clubs. Depending on geographical location, each student will be allocated a Rugby Club to work alongside and assist with all their marketing needs. The clubs include Valley RFC, Hong Kong Football Club, HKU Sandy Bay RFC, Kowloon RFC, Hong Kong Scottish, and USRC Tigers. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their creative communication skills in a real-life sports environment. This programme will be formed of three distinct phases; PHASE I PHASE II PHASE III Core Marketing & 2020 Men’s Premiership Season 2021 Men’s Premiership Season Communications Training PAYMENT: This programme is sponsored by the HKRU, and all Marketing & Communications training will be provided free of charge. Students will be expected to cover costs of transport to/from training/matches & any other personal needs. NewsletterIssue 2 Issue 2 INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION Sport for Development for Children Working Group The ChildFund Pass It Back Director has been invited to sit on the UNICEF and Barça Foundation Sports for Development for Children Working Group. The Working Group has been tasked to develop a global Sports for Development for Children framework to shape the sector’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. The Group’s first meeting will take place on April 9th in Barcelona, Spain. Safe Sport International Conference ChildFund Pass It Back was invited to speak at the inaugural Safe Sport Interntational Conference on ‘Challenging Violence in Sport’ in Madrid, Spain from 6-8 April, 2018. We will present lessons learnt from our experience supporting organisations who work with children to improve child safeguarding standards. Child Safeguarding Regional Workshop From 29-31 March 2018, ChildFund Pass It Back led a regional child safeguarding meeting and networking opportunity with project focal points from Laos, the Philippines and Vietnam. Representatives from Hong Kong Rugby Union and Asia Rugby also participated in the workshop to share experiences and lessons learnt to improve child safeguarding practices.
