  • Nhl Morning Skate – Feb. 9, 2021 Three Hard
NHL MORNING SKATE – FEB. 9, 2021 THREE HARD LAPS * Auston Matthews, with goals in each of his last eight appearances, achieved a rare feat by scoring his fifth game-winning goal in just his 12th contest of 2020-21. * The Coyotes have scored two game-tying goals in the final five seconds of regulation this season - tied for the most by one team in a single season in NHL history. * Patrick Marleau’s ascension of the all-time games played list is set to see the 23-season NHL veteran pass Jaromir Jagr for third place in League history. MATTHEWS SCORES AGAIN, INCLUDING FIFTH GAME WINNER IN 12 CONTESTS Auston Matthews scored the first of two Maple Leafs goals in a span of 11 seconds to extend his goal streak to seven games, including one in each of his last eight appearances. Only two players in the last 25 years have had a longer run of consecutive games played with a goal. * Matthews, skating in his 12th contest of 2020-21 and 294th of his career, netted his fifth game- winning goal of the season and 300th point of his NHL career. Only three players in NHL history have required fewer games to register their fifth game-winning goal of a season – Nels Stewart (9 GP in 1928-29 w/ MMR), Brian Propp (10 GP in 1982-83 w/ PHI) and Charlie Conacher (10 GP in 1934-35 w/ TOR). * Monday’s victory helped the Maple Leafs collect their 10th win of the season. The 2020-21 campaign marks the fourth time in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) that Toronto was the League’s first team to reach the 10-win mark (tied or outright).

  • Unpredictability Continues Into Second Round of 2019
UNPREDICTABILITY CONTINUES INTO SECOND ROUND OF 2019 PLAYOFFS The 2019 Conference Finals are comprised of two of the top six teams from the regular-season – Boston (No. 2) and San Jose (No. 6), who finished second in their respective conferences – and two teams that ranked outside the top 10 – Carolina (No. 11) and St. Louis (No. 12). * The Blues and Hurricanes’ journeys to the third round are each marked by strong performances in the 2019 calendar year – St. Louis ranked last overall in the NHL standings on Jan. 2 while Carolina also found itself among the bottom nine on that day. * This marked the fourth time in six years under the current playoff format - and 14th time in NHL history - that the second round required multiple Game 7s. The two Second Round Game 7s garnered record in- market ratings for all four clubs involved. * St. Louis advanced to the Conference Finals by winning the third Game 7 this postseason to require overtime - the most ever in one playoff year. * There have been 15 overtime contests this postseason - five more than the entire 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs (10 of 84 GP). * The Hurricanes won a pair of one-goal games to take a 2-0 series lead back to Raleigh, where they set a franchise record for attendance and completed their first-ever best-of-seven sweep. The score was tied or within one goal for 85% of the series (206:23 of 244:04), including each of the first 183:06 – Carolina took the first multi-goal lead of the series in the final minute of Game 3.

The following transcript of Red Hamill’s interview on Memories and Music (broadcast September 5, 1982) was created by Videoplus Transcription Services in 2013. Page 1 00:00:00 Track starts. SCOTT TURNBULL: Good afternoon and welcome to Memories and Music on CIGM FM 92.7 Sudbury. I’m your musical host, Scott Turnbull and joining us now with an introduction to today’s guest, here’s Gary Peck. GARY PECK: Today our guest will be Red Hamill. Red Hamill played professional hockey from approximately the 1937/38 season until the 1950/51 season playing for initially the Boston Bruins, latterly the Chicago Blackhawks. And also, Red Hamill has been involved in local sports. And today our guest is Robert Hamill, better known as Red Hamill. And welcome to the program, Mr. Hamill. RED HAMILL: Thank you. GARY PECK: Red, you were involved in professional hockey for a number of years and that’s really what we’re going to focus on today in the program. But before we actually concentrate on that aspect of your life, would you share with us some biographical information beginning where you were born, when, what general area, and follow through from there? RED HAMILL: Well, Gary, I was born in Toronto, 1917 and I spent my first 15 years there in Toronto with the family and then I moved north to get a job. That was during the depression years, 34/35 and I went up to South Porcupine. I got the job up there in the mine because I had a little talent as a hockey player.
