Shoalhaven Justices of the Peace at work for you STATUTORY DECLARATIONS

Where do I obtain one? Well, you can always buy one from the local Newsagent but you can obtain it free on your internet like many legal documents today with instructions on how to fill them out. Affidavits of all types are also available on your internet with instructions on what to do. This can save you a lot of money and we also have free NSW Statutory Declarations and Commonwealth Statutory Declarations at our Justice of the Peace Service Desk at 3/59 Junction Street, Nowra (9am to 2pm Monday to Friday), which is the office of Fiona Phillips, Federal Member for Gilmore. The important thing to remember when entering it on the internet is to be specific: • NSW Statutory Declaration • Australian Commonwealth Statutory Declaration • Also be specific with Affidavits I mention this as we had a person arrive with a Statutory Declaration they obtained from the internet – sadly it was for another country. We sign over 8,000 documents a year in Nowra and many businesses do their own Statutory Declaration, but in many cases they are not correct, so I have noted the correct ones below to assist you: • Commonwealth – Statutory Declarations Act 1959 (for Statutory Declarations) or Evidence Act 1995 (for Affidavits) • N.S.W. – Oath Act 1900 Schedule 8 or 9 Please remember NOT to sign the document until the JP asks you and you will need your ID for identification. Our JPs on the desk are all members of The Justices Association, Shoalhaven Branch, who donate their time free of charge and are regularly trained and kept up to date for their role. Please Note: We cannot give you legal advice. Till next time, Laurie (NSW Justices Association Shoalhaven Branch – 0438 013 330)

Common Composition Rules - BALANCE Just from the name itself, you would be forgiven to believe that ‘balance’ needs to be two sides mirroring each other - that is not always the case and can lead to some confusion. Symmetry would best describe this situation. We have spoken about ‘symmetry’ in a previous article (August issue), where an intersecting line, such as water, causes a subject to mirror itself - that is ‘balance’ somehow, but leading more to ‘symmetry’ as the composition of the photograph will be identical both sides. Balance is achieved, by say, having a larger object in the foreground and balancing the remainder of the photographic composition with smaller objects in the background (as top photo). The best way to describe balance, is to imagine an older style of scales where, if you were to put one large object on one side of the scale, you could balance it out by several, smaller objects of the same on the other. The side of the scale that is holding the smaller objects, will bring the other side into ‘balance’ - meaning both sides would weigh the same and the physical scales would then be in a straight, horizontal line. Same photograph (bottom), but I have roughly taken out the three boulders to the left of the dominant boulder on the right to demonstrate balance. Although not a mirror- image, the first photograph looks more appealing when you imagine the boulders on the left in the older style of scales actually ‘balancing’ out the dominant boulder on the right. In the second same image with the three boulders to the left taken out, the dominant boulder on the right seem like it’s just floating and the composition looks like there is something ‘missing’ and is not as aesthetically pleasing as the first. 34 Home Cooking CRISPY KOREAN POPCORN

CHICKEN Serves 2 courtesy of Australian Home Cooks

This is a hot spicy dish, not your chilli kind of hot, but spicy hot. So if you don’t like spicy heat, add the Gochujang paste a little at a time and taste as you go.

INGREDIENTS 3 boneless chicken thighs (cubed) FOR THE SAUCE 3 cloves garlic (finely chopped) 1 tspn brown sugar salt and pepper to season 1-2 tblspn Gochujang paste (or any hot 1/3 cup of cornflour sauce will do) vegetable oil for frying 2 tblspns soy sauce 1/4 cup ketchup TO SERVE 1 tspn grated ginger 2 spring onions finely chopped dash of rice wine vinegar sesame seeds

METHOD 1. Heat oil in a wok or deep frypan. Use the handle end of a wooden spoon to test when ready. If oil is hot enough it will bubble around the handle. 2. Mix chicken with garlic, and season with salt and pepper 3. Place cornflour in a bag and put the chicken in. Seal and shake well to ensure all chicken pieces are well coated. Add pieces of chicken one at a time, shaking off excess cornflour as you go. 4. Fry in 2 batches as you don’t want to overload the pan. Fry until chicken begins to turn golden. Remove to a bowl lined with paper towel and keep warm. Repeat with the second batch of chicken. 5. While the second batch is cooking, mix all sauce ingredients in a pot, stir over medium heat until combined and sugar has dissolved. Bring to the boil and stir for 2-3 minutes. 6. Remove paper towel from the bowl, pour sauce over chicken and toss until all the chicken is well coated. 7. Serve over rice, noodles or in my case, hot chips. I’d seen it served that way somewhere and it appealed to me. 8. Sprinkle chicken with sesame seeds and spring onions. 9. Serve while hot

K-2 had fun in the sun at their Athletics Carnival which was held on the school oval. They rotated through lots of different games and activities and also enjoyed racing their classmates in the age races. Stage 3 students headed off to Canberra and we can’t wait to see the photos from their excursion.

41 Schools Corner VINCENTIA HIGH SCHOOL NEWS Interagency Services Hub for Vincentia High School Vincentia High School (VHS) coordinated and hosted an Interagency Hub meeting involving over 40 local service providers. Deputy Principal of Learning, Support and Wellbeing, Mrs Sandy Clark invited representatives from services in health, local government, NSW Department of Education and community members, to discuss the need for a services hub at VHS. Travelling to Nowra to access essential services is difficult for many students and families in our local community. This idea is a ‘watch this space’ and certainly is an exciting initiative that we as a school community will watch blossom and grow. Acting Principal Ms Renee Gilbert congratulated the team responsible for the ‘Interagency Hub’ meeting and said “What a fantastic representation of our community’s investment in our students and our school.”
