Phil has been a constant within the Basketball Illawarra and his presence is marked by his ability to make and maintain authentic relationships with those around him, he is generous with his time and BI has been exceedingly lucky to have him within the community. Basketball History 1979 to 2020 1979 Attended my first ever game of Basketball the HAWKS NBL first game. One week later I started my apprenticeship as a Sports Trainer at the HAWKS with Paul Whiteman the Head Trainer and as a consequence I began a lifelong association and love with basketball. I started by looking after the Illawarra Youth League men’s team, and assisting with the HAWKS and the WNBL with BOB Sim from that time on I became heavily involved in the IBA not only as a Sports Trainer but involved in the association helping with any team that requested my services and also the association. My job as TAFE teacher gave me the ability to be able to help the IBA with the fabrication of Backboards, Rings, Seating Stands, Stairs, and Security Gates etc. Thus being this involved in the IBA lead to a strong association with NSWBA as a Sports Trainer, through John Martin at NSWBA which lead to being involved in all sorts of events, Country Tournaments, training camps, representing NSWBA at Australian Championships all over the country in the ages of U/16, U/18, U/20 both men and women’s teams. Other events also associated with NSWBA were the Masters Games and numerous other events under their banner or association with. 2 NOMINATIONS FOR LIFE MEMBERSHIP AGM 2020 NSWBA Medical Commission founding member John Martin, Doctor Roger Parrish, Bob Sim Physio/Coach, Ron Hobbs and Phil Driscoll. Attended the Australian Junior Country Cup as Head of Medical for NSWBA and the Tournament for many years. Lecturing and running courses to many associations and teams along the way about Sports Medicine as a senior lecture for Sports Medicine Australia I still give advice to the IBA on Workplace Health and Safety a roll that I have held in outside industry for some years. I am still involved with the HAWKS as Head Trainer Medical for the 2020/2021 season and as such will be assisting the IBA wherever possible and NSWBA players and teams whenever requested to do so 3. • Plan of Management for Andrew Lysaght Park and That the Park Continues to Be Maintained As a Rest Park
Andrew Lysaght Park Plan of Management PLAN OF MANAGEMENT FOR ANDREW LYSAGHT PARK Adopted 16 DECEMBER 2002 Wollongong City Council 1 Andrew Lysaght Park Plan of Management INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background Andrew Lysaght Park is a unique and special public place. It was originally part of a Roman Catholic Cemetery, with burials being recorded between 1830 and 1914. As Wollongong’s oldest burial ground it is the resting-place of some of the city’s pioneering families. First created as a direct result of the Old Roman Catholic Cemetery, Crown Street, Wollongong Act, 1969, Andrew Lysaght Park is Crown land dedicated as a public park and is required to be maintained by the trustee, Wollongong City Council, as a rest park. Council redeveloped the Park as a foreshore plaza and raised terrace in 1998, in conjunction with the construction of the Wollongong Entertainment Centre building. Its rest park status was acknowledged through the display of headstones and other memorials from the former cemetery, together with a number of pieces of public art in the southern end of the park. It was intended that the site function as a key urban space between the foreshore and the Wollongong Entertainment Centre complex. Andrew Lysaght Park has recently been under a number of development pressures associated with the adjoining WIN Stadium and the Entertainment Centre. Community concerns in regard to the impact of these developments on the Park and more specifically burial sites has resulted in significant community debate and the enactment of the Wollongong Sportsground and Old Roman Catholic Cemetery Legislation Amendment (Transfer of Land) Bill 2001.

The Dhurga were fisherfolk and through the ages they would gather to assess the seas and the weather before setting off. The oj b of the lookout who remained there was to signal those on the water and on the beach below about the location and direction of sea mammals and shoals of fish. Such lookout posts exist also at Hill 60 at Port Kembla and up and down the South Coast, and it is from them that people observed the passage of James Cook’s ship in 1770. One of them told her granddaughter Coomee, who died at Ulladulla in 1914, all about “the first time the white birds came by”. During the vessel’s slow northward movement along the South Coast over eight days, heavy surf at Bulli Beach prevented a provisioning party from getting ashore on 28 April.
