SONGS FOR YOU 12 The XVIII INTERNATIONAL CHOPIN & FRIENDS FESTIVAL The 18th International Chopin and Friend’s Festival aims to pro- mote the talents of the younger generation as well as to highlight YOUNG VISION 16 women and their many aptitudes. The program features numer- ous outstanding, emerging female artists, but that’s not all. It is worth mentioning that the coordinator of the festival, who has been MISSA APUNCTA instrumental in ensuring the festival’s success, Marta Pawlaczek, is 20 also a very capable and gifted young woman. Slowly we are making a shift and the world is staring to recognize that women have many amazing aptitudes and are fantastic artists as well as leaders. Made up of alumni from Juilliard's Historical Music of the Night Program Performance program, the ensemble is passionate about exploring, experi- menting, and performing repertoire from the early Classical through the Chopin, F. Mazurka in A-minor, op 59 no. 1 Romantic era. (1810–1849) Lucy Dhegrae “Vocal versatility and an omnivorous curiosity” Szymanowska, M. Dhegrae’s festival appearances include Darmstadt (Germany), Klangspuren (Austria), Mostly Mozart, Bard Music Festival, Gesher [6] “Se spiegar potessi” Music Festival (St. Louis), and Aldeburgh Music Festival (as a Britten-Pears Young Artist). “The Nocturne” Francis Liu With an inclination for eclectic projects, Francis Liu specializes Field, J. Nocturne No. 10 in E-minor, H. 46b in exploring period interpretations of Baroque and Classical (1782–1837) repertoire. Based in New York City, he is an active member of the Sebastians, New York Baroque Inc., the Bach Players of Nocturne No. 3 in A-flat major, H. 26 Holy Trinity, and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra. He has also performed with the Smithsonian Chamber Players, Les Arts Chopin Nocturne in E-minor, Op. Posth. 72 Florissants (“Festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie”), and has toured with the Baroque ensemble Musica Angelica and the actor John Malkovich in two productions: The Infernal Comedy and The Giacomo Variations. An active Szymanowska Nocturne in A-flat major, “Le Murmure” chamber musician, he performs regularly with Quartet Resound, and the square piano trio, Broadwood Junction. “Travels to Russia” Francis is currently on faculty at Point CounterPoint Music Festival and main- tains a private teaching studio in New York City. He holds degrees from Rice Chopin Polish Songs, Op. 74 University, the University of Maryland, and the Juilliard Historical Perfor- mance Program. With Juilliard415, he performed under the direction of William Christie, Richard Egarr, Monica Huggett, Robert Mealy, Mark Morris, Masaaki Suzuki, and Julian Wachner.
