Despite being one of the largest producers of oil in the world, in 2018 and 2019, the Brooking Institution and World Poverty Clock respectively ranked Nigeria amongst top three countries with extreme poverty in the World. Muslims from the north and Christians from the south dominate the country; each part has its peculiar problem. There have been series of agitations by the militants from the south to break the country due to unfair treatments by the Nigerian government. They produced multiple violent groups that killed people and destroyed properties and oil facilities. In the North, an insurgent group called Boko Haram emerges in 2009; they advocated for the establishment of an Islamic state that started with warning that, western education is prohibited. Reports say the group caused death of around 100,000 and displaced over 2 million people. As such, Niger Delta Militancy and Boko Haram Insurgency have been major challenges being faced by Nigeria for about a decade. To address such challenges, the Nigerian government introduced separate counterinsurgency interventions called Presidential Amnesty Program (PAP) and Operation Safe Corridor (OSC) in 2009 and 2016 respectively, which are both aimed at curtailing Militancy and Insurgency respectively.

    Canadian eview V olume 39, No. 3 th 200 Anniversary of the Ontario Legislative Library p. 28 2 CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARY REVIEW/FALL 2016 Manitoba’s original Mace was carved out of the hub of a Red River cart wheel by a soldier with the Wolseley Expedition Force (sent out to deal with the Riel Rebellion in 1869). This Mace was used for a period of 13 years between March 15, 1871 and March 12, 1884. In December 1873, when a fire destroyed the first home of the Legislature, the Mace was the only object to survive the flames. It remains on display in the Speaker’s office to this day. Manitoba’s current gold-plated Mace debuted in 1884. Standing five feet tall and weighing 28 pounds, it repeats themes found on the original Mace. The head of the current Mace displays four emblems: the Rose, the Thistle, the Harp, and the Fleur-de-lis. These same emblems are found engraved on the staff of the Mace, with the exception of an Irish Shamrock replacing the Harp. On the top, a crown symbolizes the Monarch, while four beavers represent the province’s place as part of Canada. Finally, an orb and a cross represent the spiritual and religious aspects of Manitoba life. This Mace was made to celebrate the opening of the second Legislative building. The initials V.R., representing the reigning Monarch Queen Victoria, are engraved on its head. The Table Officers have a tradition of rubbing various symbols on the Mace with their robe sleeves while waiting for the Speaker’s Parade to start, in order to summon good luck for the sitting day.

Some other interchangeable terms for ride sharing services are transportation network companies and mobility services providers.     A STYLISTIC ANALYSIS OF THE LANGUAGE OF POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS IN NIGERIA: EVIDENCE FROM THE 2007 GENERAL ELECTIONS. V. E. Omozuwa & E. U. C. Ezejideaku Abstract Politicians all over the world embellish their language in a unique way to give extra effect and force to their message in order to achieve their objective of winning more votes. This can be embodied in rhetoric or propaganda, involving repetition, promise, colloquialism, word coinages, pidginized and figurative expressions. The denotative and connotative meanings of the figurative expressions are analysed. It is argued that propaganda as an aspect of this register is characterized by exaggeration, rhetorical questions, and abusive utterances. 1.0 Introduction Language use in political campaigns has certain characteristic features which differentiate it from other varieties of language use. Common as some of these features may be in everyday situation, they remain very unique with politicians and politics. The language of political campaign embodied in propaganda and rhetoric, is persuasive. Politicians adopt these linguistic devices to cajole the electorate to vote for them and their parties by presenting themselves as the only capable persons for the job. This study is a synchronic stylistic analysis of the various political utterances used during the electioneering process in Nigeria based on 35 political campaign materials randomly collected from the print media (mainly from the southern part of the country) during the just concluded elections into the various offices in the 2007 general elections in the country. The different stylistic devices politicians used to achieve their aim are examined from the stylistic point of view. This is to say that different situations call for different language use.
