6 St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church The Holy Trinity in the New for St. Philip’s As we celebrate the Sunday dedi- cated to the Most Holy Trinity, we are please to share these new im- ages of the completed crucifix for our new church, the gift of a gen- erous donor. The design, which was inspired by a 13th century masterpiece, depicts the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity: and the Holy Spirit ap- pear in the top of the , with the figure of the crucified Christ below them.

The Trinity and the Sacrifice of the Cross God acts for the salvation of the world "according to the unique personal property of each Person of the Trinity" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 258):

"[The sacrifice of Christ] is a gift from God the Father himself, for the Father handed his Son over to sinners in order to reconcile us with himself. At the same time it is the offering of the Son of God made man, who in freedom and love offered his life to his Father through the Holy Spirit in repara- tion for our disobedience." ~CCC, 614

As we behold this cross in the sanctuary of our new church, may it draw us to contemplation of the love of God the Father, , and God the Holy Spirit.
