- ISPH 2015 logo (front cover) designed by Jasmina Wiemann. The logo highlights several aspects well suited for the Bonn, 2015 meeting. The dwarf sauropod dinosaur, Europasaurus, stands in front of a histology-filled silhouette of the main dome of Poppelsdorf Palace, the main venue for ISPH 2015. This Late Jurassic sauropod is a fitting representative, as it was discovered in Lower Saxony, Germany, and its dwarf status was verified with histological investigations. - Cover, program and abstract book designed by Aurore Canoville and Jessica Mitchell. - Program and abstract book editors: Aurore Canoville, Jessica Mitchell, Koen Stein, Dorota Konietzko-Meier, Elzbieta Teschner, Anneke van Heteren, and P. The University of Bonn has a rich history in paleontological and evolutionary research, making it a befitting venue. In fact, Bonn is arguably the birthplace of paleobiology, manifested in the first-ever published life reconstruction of an extinct animal in its environment by Georg August Goldfuß in 1831. In this seminal study on the pterosaur Scaphognathus crassirostris, Goldfuß recognized the presence of hair and a vascularized wing membrane, arguing that the animal was an active flyer and had an endothermic metabolism. Paleohistology has much to contribute to such research, as we are all aware of, and it is in this spirit that we hope to hold the meeting. We are looking forward to 60 talks and 26 posters, an ever- growing number of presentations from ISPH meeting to ISPH meeting! In addition, there will be plenty of time for informal discussion, and we are also very excited about the thin sectioning workshops offered by Ellen-Thérèse Lamm and the trouble shooting session and lab tour at our department. The venue will be the very building that Goldfuß reached his paleobiological conclusions in, the Poppelsdorf Palace. This converted Rococo summer palace of Clemens August, Elector of Cologne, dating from 1740, was given to the University of Bonn in 1818. We have a lecture hall for 200 people and will take our breaks and exhibit posters in two historic halls overlooking the botanical garden of the university. Bonn is a medium-sized city of 300 000 inhabitants and the former capital of Germany. It is also the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. His presence is felt everywhere, including in the motto of the city “Freude. Joy. Joie. Bonn”. Our region, the Rhineland, is very open to the world, and once an event has taken place twice, it is already considered a “tradition”. It is in this spirit that we invite you to participate in another successful International Symposium on Paleohistology, ISPH 3, after the meetings in Sabadell and Bozeman. This symposium would not have been possible without the energetic and creative members of the host committee, in particular Jessica Mitchell and Aurore Canoville, and student helpers to whom I extend my heartfelt thanks for their hard work with never wavering cheerfulness. We also acknowledge the generous funding by the German Research Foundation (DFG) that made the participation of many students possible. P.
