Estando de vacaciones junto con sus padres y su hermana mayor en el lujoso hotel Kellerman’s en Catskill, Nueva York, Baby muestra muy poco interés en las actividades recreativas del lugar hasta que encuentra una mejor forma de entretenerse cuando descubre por accidente una desenfrenada fiesta llena de música y baile en el área de empleados del hotel. Fascinada por los provocativos pasos de baile y los hipnóticos ritmos musicales, Baby no podrá esperar ni un segundo más para ser parte de ese mundo, sobre todo tras conocer a Johnny Castle, el carismático instructor de baile del hotel. Su vida cambiará para siempre en el instante en que Baby se transforme en la compañera de baile de Johnny tanto en el escenario como fuera de él, dos jóvenes espíritus ferozmente independientes y de mundos distintos que se unirán en lo que será el más desafiante verano de sus vidas.
