The old saying goes don’t judge a book by the cover means a lot here. My first Reviews are done by independent reviewers that send submisions to NMG. look at the cover of a middle aged man - that I don’t recognize from a non major If you would like for your album to be reviewed it can be sent digitally to label - and I thought it’s going to be a rough one here. I found out by the second [email protected] or via mail to Nashville Muisc Guide ATTN: Reviiews 38 Music Sq. E Suite 112. Nashville ,TN 37203 song, I was wrong. Tony Stampley has it going on. I’m very glad that I don’t judge songs by the cover. This guy has a smooth voice and a good way of proving it. Every song on this albulm is as good, if not better than the one before it. Not a bad song here at all. When he gets on a roll, he’s rolling. This album if given Amanda Goodman-Pruitt ▪ “Something Will Give” ▪ the chance, will go like wild fire - fast and furious. With the right backing Tony www.Amandagp.com Stampley will be a chart climber. Thirteen cuts to his name with Hank jr. this guy has the songs, the voice and the deliverly to headline his own tour.

A very strong voice is demonstrated in this album and will be enjoyed by traditional country music, bluegrass and blues lovers…nationwide. The album consists of all original songs written by Amanda and it takes you through different twists and turns of everyday life. My only critique to this album is that Amanda needs to write more and get outside the box. My favorite songs, “What They Tell Georgette Jones ▪ “ Till I Can Make It On My Own ▪ Me” and “Read between the Lines”, could definitely be on the radio with the Heart of Texas Records www.georgegettejones.com right support and publishing group. Amanda needs to strengthen her writing and her imagination. With her raspy-original voice and the proper exposure, some of the songs from this album could Wow! Talk about a blast from the past. This album is one that can be listened to until it is worn out. In my opinion this girl can really make it on her own. A strong voice runs deep in her family heritage, shes very prideful of her mother - . She will do well with her own music if you like traditional country music. I have never seen her Geoffery Buell ▪ “My Friends Call Me Geoff” ▪ live but you can I will. www.geoffbuell.com

I loved this album because of the country twang and energetic upbeats that Geoff Chis Henderson ▪ “MY TURN ‘ ▪ demonstrates. I would consider Geoff being the “real deal” in his writing and vocal style. Geoff relates to his audience in his songs and really makes the listener www.chrishendersonmusic.com believe that the songs are about you. The entire album make you live in the Three years in the making, this album certainly has a lot of time put in it. The moment. However, this album does not deliver that.

Kadie Lynn began playing guitar two years ago with the help of her instructor and the front man of Whiskey Prophets, Brad Roberson. She is currently working on her first album with all original music.

Kadie Lynn is serious about her music. “It’s not a joke,” she said. She practices and writes everyday. Her parents are loving and supportive but they literally have to pry her guitar from her just to get her to eat sometimes. “I am her number one fan and I want the absolute best for my daughter,” said Deborah. “But, I’m her mother first!”

“Everything is happening so fast,” said Kadie Lynn. “I just love making people smile!”

Bluegrass is a music steeped in tradition, but over the past decade and a half -- much of it spent on the road -- Yonder Mountain String Band has spearheaded a renegade movement to rewrite the definition of the genre. Alongside other neo-bluegrass friends such as Leftover Salmon, , Bela Fleck, The Travelin’ McCourys, and Railroad Earth, YMSB has thoroughly revitalized and contemporized bluegrass and introduced it to many thousands of new fans. said that YMSB “liberates bluegrass’ hot-shit riffing and blue-sky harmonies from its hidebound formalism,” while Paste Magazine wrote, “The Yonder Mountain boys have found a formula that works: take rootsy bluegrass influences, add in some rock ‘n’ roll, and seek out an adventurous audi- ence.”

Touring is in this band’s DNA, and YMSB has evolved into something of a phenomenon on the concert and festival circuit -- they are, in fact, one of the top touring bluegrass bands in the country today. Yonder Mountain has sold out Colorado’s famed Red Rocks several times, and played sold-out shows with ex-Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh at his Terrapin Crossroads in August 2012. They also host three singular music festivals every year -- Northwest String (now in its 13th year and hosted by YMSB every year), Harvest Music Festival (where they will host for the fifth time in October 2014), and Strings & Sol (YMSB appears for the third year in a row in December 2014) -- and have consecutively sold out runs of shows at Telluride Bluegrass Festival year after year. In all, Yonder Mountain logs over 100 live dates per year.

Yonder has always played music by its own design. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences, they’ve come to pioneer a sound that they alone could only champion. With a traditional lineup of instruments, they may appear to be a band at first glance but they’ve taken the customary old-timey instrumentation to new heights, transcending any single genre. Yonder has become a regular performer at major music festivals like Mulberry Mt. Harvest Festival, Northwest String Summit and DelFest as well as massive multi-stage events like Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits Festival.

Yonder Mountain String Band is comprised of Adam Aijala (guitar, vocals), Dave Johnston (, vocals), Ben Kaufmann (bass, vocals), and select special guest artists who will appear with the band throughout 2014. In 2015, a new permanent band member line-up will be announced. As of April 2014, former band member Jeff Austin (, vocals) is pursuing a solo career; his forthcoming solo tour dates can be found on www.jeffaustin.com.

SHOVELS & ROPE THE AVETT BROTHERES

BONNAROO IN THE EYE OF A FAN ARCTIC MONKEYS

When, the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival announced their lineup for this year’s festival, set to occur from June 13 to June 16. “Weird Al” Yankovic announced the lineup during a live online stream dubbed the “Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon” or “BLAM” for short. I attended the music festival for the first time last year. Not only was this my first time at Bonnaroo, but it was also my first music festival experience ever. It was a phenomenal event to be my first music festival and an event that I highly recommend everyone experience at least once in his or her life. ED HELMS The best way I can describe the event is a mixture of Woodstock and the Quidditch UMPHREY’S MCGEE CAGE THE ELEPHANT World Cup. There were a lot of hippies walking around and lots of psychedelics to be had (no worries, I abstained). Everyone was there to enjoy the music, to forget life’s troubles and to just “chill out” for four days in the Tennessee wilderness. The event was also part Quidditch World Cup. Just as Harry and the gang camped outside of the Quidditch stadium in Book 4 of the series, and entered the stadium for the main event, so too do Bonnaroovians (an affectionate name for Bonnaroo goers). For the four days, Bonnaroovians camp outside the Centeroo, the epicenter of the entire event where all the musical performances are held. And like the Quidditch World Cup, Bonnaroovians enter Centeroo only for the main events and return to their campgrounds for lodging. As I let the lineup announcement process in my brain, I soon started exploding with excitement at the thought that yes, I am returning to Bonnaroo this year and yes, the DRIVE BY TRUCKERS lineup is fantastic. I was very happy to see Mumford & Sons headlining the festival, but admittedly, I was disappointed to see that Beyoncé (yes, Queen Bey) was not a headliner. I thought for sure she would be a lock. As far as other acts go, I was pleased to see that The Lumineers, Passion Pit, Of SKRILLEX Monsters and Men, Beach House and Edward Sharpe were all playing. I have never given A$AP Rocky a proper listening to, so I hope that this festival allows me to give him the time people tell me he deserves. Other musical performers I thought might be included in the lineup this year were Ellie Goulding, and The Kill- ers. Alas, these bands did not get the invite. The best part of any music festival is the chance to discover new bands you may have never heard before. There are always those bands that are buried at the end of the lineup list, but if you make effort to go to their shows, you may just find a new favorite. This happened to me last year with Laura Marling. The English folk musi- cian was listed towards the bottom, but after going to her show, I fell in love with her music and still listen to her a year later. I’m looking to see if the same occurs for bands like Sea Wolf, Jeff the Brotherhood and Father John Misty. There are two specific musical moments I am looking forward to the most. I may very well burst out into tears during Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s performance of “Same Love” and will put all of my energy into dancing like I’ve never danced before during R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix).” If I had to live the four days and only saw these two experiences, I would still consider the festival a success. Perhaps the best part of all of this is that there are still more bands to be announced. I cannot wait to see what else Bonnaroo 2013 has in store. Peter D. Setter JANELLE MONAE [email protected]
