Westview Newspaper Your Community NEWS Paper with Kids In Mind FEMA Discusses Emergency Preparedness with NCS Scouts Federal Emergency Management Agency representatives, Jane Brahm and Ernie Stallworth visited NCS Cub Scout Pack 382 to discuss emergency preparedness at the Tuesday night Pack meeting on March 25. The FEMA representatives, who are out of Atlanta, GA, discussed how to be prepared and the steps to take following a disaster. Each scout received and activity books along with other pamphlets for the scouts to take home. At the close of the presentation, FEMA representatives filtered questions from scouts, leaders and parents.

When I opened my eyes, the rays of sun, streaming through the windows caught the movement of something on the chair arm. At first, I thought it was a hand moving toward me, but when I focused my eyes, I could see it was a huge, big, black spider, mov- ing toward my hand that now laid frozen upon the chair arm. Before I could barely let out a yell, someone knocked the spider down into the floor, and I watched, mesmerized, as it scurried across the floor and into the dark corners of the room. I looked up to see Drew, standing in front of me. Drew, the young man with the kind, green eyes. I shuddered at the thought of the spider that was previously crawling so close to my hand. “Thank-you for scaring off the spider.” I said, although any- one could tell I was only being polite. “You’re welcome.” Drew said, as he stared at me with the sun shining down across his eyes, making them look the color of the blue-green ocean, a color I loved and remembered from our many Florida vacations. “What ever is this room, anyway?” He murmured. “It looks as if it belonged to a child,” he added.
