Monticello officials had several things to celebrate last week at their first in- person meeting since the start of the pandemic, other than they were able to be together and communicate in person after months of separation. That said, the celebration was a muted affair, as everyone wore masks and maintained minimum distances of at least six feet from each other throughout the proceeding, except for a brief group photo. City Councilman Troy Avera did the honors, presenting Major John Jones with a framed certificate from the Florida League of Cities (FLC). The award, Avera said, was in recognition of Jones’ 20 years of service as an elected municipal official. ¿Seguro? Yo creo que no.

  • The Holiday Villager October 2020
The Holiday Villager October 2020 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Do We Have a Healthy Community? by Gail Moyer There is a need to assess the health of our association and then execute a plan of action. Board members have the responsibility to preserve, protect and enhance homeowners' property while community managers coordi- nate and execute the services needed to run the association, also acting as trusted advisor to the board with their knowledge of governance, operations and management. There are five areas to evaluate. 1. Home values - Residents want to ensure the value of their home is maintained. Have property values gotten higher or lower in recent months, or do they seem steady? 2. Curb appeal - Tying into the value of homes is the physical condition of the community. Does the community look like a place people are proud to call home? Is there a need to increase communication about rules or violation notices? 3. Proper budgeting - Budgets are crucial to community associations' financial operation. While consid- ering regularly occurring costs, it's essential to plan for future projects as well. 4. Reserve funding - Homeowners are ever fearful of hearing that they may have to pay a considerable special assessment for a project that should have been planned for. Large scale projects that do not occur every year should be budgeted for in advance to avoid assessment increases. 5. Community culture - Do the board and community manager have a good pulse on homeowners’ views of the association? Is there a strong relationship with homeowners, or is the only contact with them when something is wrong? Healthy community associations have informed board members, knowledgeable community managers and engaged homeowners who are happy and confident in the management of the place they call home.

My Drift Title: Triple Crown Written by: Jerry D. Petersen Date: 20 May 2017 Article Number: 259-2017-15 The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Horse Racing, better known as the Triple Crown, is a title awarded to a three-year-old thoroughbred horse who wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. The three races were inaugurated in different years, the last being the Kentucky Derby in 1875. These races are now run annually in May and early June of each year. The Triple Crown Trophy, commissioned in 1950 but awarded to all previous winners as well as those after 1950, is awarded to a Triple Crown winner. The Triple Crown Trophy Churchill Downs thoroughbred racetrack is located on Central Avenue in south Louisville, Kentucky. It is most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually (on the first Saturday of May). This race is nicknamed, “The Run for the Roses.” The track is named for John and Henry Churchill who provided the land. It officially opened in 1875 and held the first Kentucky Derby and the first Kentucky Oaks in the same year. Churchill Downs has also hosted the renowned Breeders' Cup on eight occasions, most recently in 2011. Churchill Downs Front Inside Churchill Downs The Kentucky Derby Pimlico Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers named the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. The racetrack is nicknamed "Old Hilltop" after a small rise in the infield that became a favorite gathering place for thoroughbred trainers and race enthusiasts.
