A position I greatly respect, and one that has been served with great distinction by many excellent gentlemen in the past. I am just hoping I can come close to keeping up the high standards set by my predecessors. I would like to take this opportunity to thank in advance, all the Officers and Councillors, for all the immense effort and hours of work they put in to make it ‘all happen’. I would also like to thank, Peter Pearce, our retiring Hon. Competition Secretary, and Team Manager Quentin Smith for their dedication and excellent work for SCIBA over the years. I am delighted to welcome to Council, as our new Hon. Competition Secretary, Colin Clarke. Also I welcome our new Team Manager Andrew Richardson, along with his top support team of Gary Taylor & Gary Clarke. I wish you all an enjoyable, successful, and rewarding year. As with many other Counties we face new challenges each season. One of the most pressing is the need for active recruitment, and retention of our playing membership. To that end it is my aim, to support and promote this vital National campaign, by highlighting the message to all our membership and Clubs, the importance of ’Recruitment’. I believe that it is possible; that with a little extra thought and effort we can all be more active in meeting this challenge. I look forward to the season ahead, and the chance to renew old acquaintances, and make new friends on the green. Enjoy your bowling gentlemen.     THE HISTORY OF SUTTON & EPSOM RFC Founded in 1881 Club History Jeff Hume - 12/01/2004 (updated 01/02/2011) Picture this. It's the early 1870's and our British Empire is at its height. Queen Victoria has at long last returned from her mourning at Balmoral. Sutton is no longer a small thinly spread village straddling the London - Brighton turnpike road. Since Thomas Alcock became the lord of the manor, he has proved to be a shrewd property developer. Sutton's population, having leapfrogged Carshalton in the 1850's, has doubled to 6,600 in the last decade. The town is now served not only by the Croydon - Epsom railway but by new lines to Epsom Downs and Mitcham Junction. The economy is booming and it is a time of great social change. Parliament has committed England to compulsory education. The weekend now starts at Saturday lunchtime, generating an enormous public demand to be amused on Saturday afternoons. Public hangings have only just been stopped, as have deportations of convicts to Australia. William Webb-Ellis is on his last legs. Rugby Football is a game played with 20 a side and without the distraction of having a referee. It is at this point that a few intrepid souls, such as Arthur Jackson, the Burrows brothers and James Spencer introduced the sport to Sutton, forming a Club which used the Cock Hotel as their changing room and played on a ground in Western Road. Alcock's 1873 Football Annual records that in their first season, 1871/2, the Club boasted 55 members and played 21 matches, winning slighty more than they lost of these in terms of goals (i.e.

He defeated Matt Broadberry, from St. Georges Hill, by 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10. Tom Bailey, also from the host club, won the U-17 event which went the full distance, by 11-8, 8-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9 County winners against Charlie Lee, from St. Georges Hill. Lee had earlier won the U-15s against Jonathan Camfield, by 11-4, 11- 7, 11-6. Max Exelby (Lakeside) and Harry North (Wimbledon) fought a very close match in the U-13s with North winning by 5-11, 13-11,13-11, 7-11, 11-9. This is published six times a year, and contains news of the whole King’s Community – Senior and Junior Schools, the Rowans, the Squirrels, the Friends of KCS, the Community Partnership Programmes with other local schools and, of course, some news of the OKC. The OKC Committee believes that the KCS Community Newsletter would be of interest to OKC Newsletter subscribers, and has arranged to fund its supply and distribution without, for the time being at least, any increase in subscriptions. The usual OKC Newsletter will continue (but without the inclusion of School news) as an enclosure in three of the six Community Newsletters, all the contents being supplied by the OKC office, as usual. This is the second of the new-style OKC Newsletters. The Hon Secretary would be pleased to hear any comments from readers about the change. Initially formed of players from Tiffin School in Kingston-upon-Thames, the club is now an open club, fielding two sides in the Surrey and London Leagues. A recent period of good form has seen the 1st XV play three consecutive seasons in the London 3 South West (L3SW) league, with fixtures across Surrey and Hampshire.     THE INCENTIVE FM SURREY KO COMPETITION R U L E S 2015/2016 1. The competitions shall be called the “Incentive FM Surrey Cup”, “Incentive FM Surrey Trophy”, “Incentive FM Surrey Shield”, “Incentive FM Surrey Bowl” (hereafter referred to as the “Competition”). 2. The Competition shall take the form of “knockout” matches played under the Laws of Rugby Union Football. 3. The Competition shall be administered by the Surrey County RFU Competitions Sub-Committee (hereafter referred to as the “Sub-Committee”) who shall be the sole adjudicators in cases of dispute. 4. In 2015/16 the ‘Competition Secretary’ is Malcolm Beech, 11 Nutcroft Grove, Fetcham, Surrey KT22 9LA, [email protected], 07960 019129. 5. Eligibility of Players A Club in a Competition match may play, or select as a replacement, only players who hold on the date of the match effective registration for that Club in accordance with the RFU Registration of Players Regulations in force at the time of the match. However as an exception a Club may select up to 2 players who are not registered with that Club, and not registered with any other club, as long as those players participate in only one match in the Competition unless they then become registered. Any club not in the RFU leagues may only select players who are members of that club and not registered with any RFU club. Any Club may apply to the Competition Secretary to vary this rule if they give good reason to do so; the Competition Secretary may then give dispensation to vary this rule at his complete discretion.
