Photographer PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS Ralph Granata has captured the essence of this exquisite place. Through his discerning eye, lifestyles — both past and present — are brought forth in detail, from Adams National Historic Park to Plimoth Plantation. Boston’s South Shore is unpretentious, a mix of suburban towns and industrial small cities that, with all their unique offerings, have somehow managed to avoid the massive throngs of tourists that flock to the North Shore, or further south to Cape Cod. Since the end of World War II, many Irish-American families migrated from Boston to towns throughout the South Shore in search of opportunity or an affordable summer retreat. PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS PROPERTY OF TWIN LIGHTS PUBLISHERS This heavy Irish-American influence has fondly dubbed the South Shore as the “Irish Riviera.” Today, the communities of the South Shore boast the highest percentage of Irish-Americans in the country. With each colorful image, the pages of this book reveal the true splendor of the region, from the majestic beachfront homes on the Hull peninsula, to the maritime charm of coastal towns like Hingham, Scituate, Marshfield, and Duxbury. Boston’s South Shore is, by far, the unsung hero of Massachusetts — the Bay State’s hidden treasure.
