1850-1865

California was admitted into the Union as a state on September 9, 1850. Based on the 1840 Census, was allowed two representatives to the House, beginning with the 31st Congress. The apportionment based on the Census of 1860 granted California a third seat. Representatives were elected from the state at-large from the 31st to the 38th Congress.
