A Comparative Study Between Brazil and Portugal
DOI: 10.36315/2019v2end027 Education and New Developments 2019 OVERVIEW OF DESIGN TEACHING ON ENGINEERING COURSES: A COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN BRAZIL AND PORTUGAL Claudia Alquezar Facca1, Jorge Lino Alves2, & Ana Mae Barbosa3 1Engineering School, Mauá Institute of Technology (Brazil); PPG Design, Anhembi Morumbi University (Brazil); Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (Portugal) 2INEGI, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (Portugal) 3PPG Design, Anhembi Morumbi University (Brazil) Abstract This paper presents an overview of design teaching in the undergraduate engineering courses at the main institutions of higher education in Brazil and Portugal. In order to carry out the comparative study, the curricula of the main engineering courses in Brazil and Portugal were used. The aim of the research is to first analyze how the design, as a disciplinary content, is being introduced in the engineering courses in both countries. In a second moment, a comparative analysis will be made between the information collected in Brazil and in Portugal in order to register how this conjugation is occurring and whether there is some similarity or not in the way of design approach in the engineering courses in each country. As a result, it is discussed how the design can collaborate with the interdisciplinarity between these areas and contribute with the formation of the new competences of the engineer. Keywords: Education, design, engineering, Brazil, Portugal. 1. Introduction Education is the object of study, concern, focus, strategy and discussion in all the nations of the globe and reflects the intense changes the world has witnessed in the last decades of the 20th century, beginning with the two great wars, then the expansion of capitalism and the cultural and economic globalization in the 21th century. -

The Nonlinear World
Springer Complexity Springer Complexity is an interdisciplinary program publishing the best research and academic-level teaching on both fundamental and applied aspects of complex systems – cutting across all traditional disciplines of the natural and life sciences, engineering, economics, medicine, neuroscience, social and computer science. Complex Systems are systems that comprise many interacting parts with the ability to generate a new quality of macroscopic collective behavior the manifestations of which are the spontaneous formation of distinctive temporal, spatial or functional structures. Models of such systems can be successfully mapped onto quite diverse “real-life” situations like the climate, the coherent emission of light from lasers, chemical reaction-diffusion systems, biological cellular networks, the dynamics of stock markets and of the internet, earthquake statistics and prediction, freeway traffic, the human brain, or the formation of opinions in social systems, to name just some of the popular applications. Although their scope and methodologies overlap somewhat, one can distinguish the following main concepts and tools: self-organization, nonlinear dynamics, synergetics, turbulence, dynamical systems, catastrophes, instabilities, stochastic processes, chaos, graphs and networks, cellular automata, adaptive systems, genetic algorithms and computational intelligence. The three major book publication platforms of the Springer Complexity program are the monograph series “Understanding Complex Systems” focusing on the various applications of complexity, the “Springer Series in Synergetics”, which is devoted to the quantitative theoretical and methodological foundations, and the “SpringerBriefs in Complexity” which are concise and topical working reports, case-studies, surveys, essays and lecture notes of relevance to the field. In addition to the books in these two core series, the program also incorporates individual titles ranging from textbooks to major reference works. -

Schade, Ph.D. ii Abstract In my dissertation “Atomic Apocalypse – ‘Nuclear Fiction’ in German Literature and Culture,” I investigate the portrayal of the nuclear age and its most dreaded fantasy, the nuclear apocalypse, in German fictionalizations and cultural writings. My selection contains texts of disparate natures and provenance: about fifty plays, novels, audio plays, treatises, narratives, films from 1946 to 2009. I regard these texts as a genre of their own and attempt a description of the various elements that tie them together. The fascination with the end of the world that high and popular culture have developed after 9/11 partially originated from the tradition of nuclear fiction since 1945. The Cold War has produced strong and lasting apocalyptic images in German culture that reject the traditional biblical apocalypse and that draw up a new worldview. In particular, German nuclear fiction sees the atomic apocalypse as another step towards the technical facilitation of genocide, preceded by the Jewish Holocaust with its gas chambers and ovens. -

OHIO GOVERNOR JOHN KASICH to PUBLISH NEW BOOK TWO PATHS: AMERICA DIVIDED OR UNITED Published by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’S Press on April 25, 2017
OHIO GOVERNOR JOHN KASICH TO PUBLISH NEW BOOK TWO PATHS: AMERICA DIVIDED OR UNITED Published by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press on April 25, 2017 NEW YORK, NY – Tuesday, January 31, 2017 – It was announced today that Ohio Governor John Kasich will publish a new book entitled TWO PATHS: America Divided or United with the Thomas Dunne Books imprint of St. Martin’s Press on April 25, 2017. World publishing rights were acquired by Thomas Dunne, with Stephen S. Power editing, from Jenny Bent at The Bent Agency, who represented the author. The book will be available in hardcover, ebook, and audio (read by the author). As the last traditional Republican standing in the 2016 Presidential race, Governor John Kasich was the only candidate who was once a Fox News host and endorsed by The New York Times. Kasich distinguished himself by remaining above the fray as the campaign rhetoric and coverage reached unprecedented new lows, witnessing first-hand how “the tone and tenor of our political discourse has become deeply troubling – and hardly Presidential.” Kasich’s goal in writing the book is to consider how these strange times have come about, and how to set things right. In TWO PATHS, Kasich recounts his political career, how faith guides his personal and political life, and considers lessons from the historic Presidential campaign. He takes aim at news media bias and the constant race for ratings, gerrymandering and redrawing of voting districts, ramifications of living in a post-truth environment, the proliferation of “fake news,” and the danger of political leaders telling constituents only what they want to hear whether it’s true or not. -
Metaanalysis of Psychoanalysis
Metaanalysis of psychoanalysis by Dr. Andrej Poleev Print edition
