JLOW, Junior Leader Orientation Workshop , the one day event sponsored for youth (Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturers and Sea Scouts) just beginning leadership roles in their unit and for Scouts wanting to learn more about how to be a better leader. (It is recommended that Boy Scouts have been in the troop for at least 1 year). There are 2 training tracks to choose from! Program: All training is presented by active, trained youth leaders with guidance from trained adult leaders. Registration: Register online at https://www.scoutingevent.com/?JLOW2015 . The fee is $25 before March 1, 2015, and $30 to the cutoff date of March 13 , or until the workshop is full at 152 participants (ILST/ILSC limited to 32 participants). Register early to ensure your selection of elective courses. Units may send different scouts if participants need to cancel, see contact information below to make arrangements. Lunch, snacks, drinks and materials are included in registration cost, please bring water bottles. Walk-ins: No walk-ins will be accepted. Day at a Glance: Registration opens at 7:30am, program begins at 8am. Refreshments will be available after registration, while you are getting to know your Patrol and Troop Guide. The flag lowering and graduation ceremony will begin at 4:30pm. All Scouts should be ready to go home at 5pm. ILST/ILSC: Older Scouts who have been to JLOW in previous years, are 14 years old or older, and are at least First Class rank or Venturers and Sea Scouts, with their Scoutmaster/Coach/Advisor/Skipper’s approval, may take ILST/ILSC. Students taking the ILST/ILSC also select afternoon elective sessions.

The purpose of the ILST/ILSC course is to teach Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. ILST is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Boy Scouts and is a replacement for Troop Leadership Training. Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Venturers and is a replacement for the Venturing Leadership Skills Course. Completion of ILST or ILSC is a prerequisite to participate in the more advanced leadership courses National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE).

Scouters: Adult Scouters are welcome to participate, Scouters fee is $10. Scouters will participate in the same programs as the Scouts, however, a special Scouters program is available in the afternoon. Cabins: Troops coming from some distance may want to reserve a cabin to stay at Camp Lazarus on Friday night. Cabins can be reserved through Simon Kenton Council. Dress: Dress appropriately for winter conditions! Many activities are outdoors, and Scouts will travel outdoors between stations. It can be helpful to wear a long sleeve shirt under your Field uniform. Everyone should wear a full Field (Formerly known as ‘Class A’) uniform.
