It’s a perfect describer of Suzuki’s first-generation GSX-Rs. Because if ever there was a ‘radically new’ motorcycle, or one that was ‘beyond established principles,’ it was Suzuki’s 1985 GSX-R750 – and the GSX-R1100 that followed in ’86. As one motorcycle journalist wrote in 1985, “Sportbikes will soon be divided into two categories: before the GSX-R, and after.” Nicely put. The instant it debuted in late 1984 at Germany’s Cologne show, the GSX-R750 electrified the motorcycle world. Few in attendance, or those who read about the bike in motorcycle magazines in later months, could fully absorb the bike’s radical full-fairing look, its astounding dry weight, or the idea that careful and conservative Suzuki had built – and planned to sell! – what was basically a road racer with lights. It certainly looked the part. With its clip- ons, dual headlights, ultra-lithe aluminum chassis and purposeful, business-only stance, the GSX-R appeared as if it might have rolled into the viewing hall after an hour-long endurance-race session at LeMans or Suzuka. -

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Corporate Communications Media Information BMW Motorrad Motorsport 11th September 2017 Two more titles for the BMW racers: Michal Filla and Michal Prášek are the Superbike and Superstock champions in the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship. • Michal Filla and Michal Prášek win titles number four and five of the season for the BMW Motorrad Motorsport community. • Peter Hickman qualifies for the “Title Showdown” in the British Superbike Championship. • Racing action also in the USA, Japan and Australia. The next race weekend, the next title wins for the BMW racers: Michal Filla and Michal Prášek (both CZE) continued the winning streak for the BMW S 1000 RR riders in the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR). At the season finale at Grobnik (CRO), Filla was crowned champion in the Superbike class and Prášek celebrated his third consecutive title win in the Superstock class. In total, the BMW riders have claimed five titles so far this season. In the British Superbike Championship (BSB) the six riders who will take part in the “Showdown” for the title have been decided – and one of them is a BMW racer. Peter Hickman (GBR) secured his spot in the title chase. The BSB weekend at Silverstone (GBR) also delivered a double BMW podium in the Superstock class. In addition, the BMW riders have been in action in the USA, Japan and Australia at the weekend. British Superbike Championship at Silverstone, Great Britain. The ninth round of the 2017 British Superbike Championship (BSB) was a crucial one: the top six riders in the standings after the triple-header at Silverstone will take part in the “Showdown” for the title over the remaining three race weekends. -

The 1930s proved that: the Winter Olympics in Germany in 1936, when the President of the International Olympic Committee threatened to cancel the Games unless the anti-semitic posters were all taken down now, whatever Adolf Hitler decrees; the 1936 Summer Games in Berlin and Hitler's look of utter disgust when Jesse Owens, a negro, won the 100 metres; the World Heavyweight title fight in 1938 between Joe Louis, a negro, and Germany's Max Schmeling which carried racial undertones and overtones. The fight lasted 2 minutes 4 seconds, and in that time Louis knocked Schmeling down four times. They say that some of Schmeling's teeth were found embedded in Louis's glove... Motor racing, a dangerous but genteel activity in the 1920s and early 1930s, was touched by this, too, and touched hard. The combustible mixture produced two Grand Prix races at Donington Park, in 1937 and 1938, which were just as dramatic, just as sinister and just as full of foreboding. This is the full story of those races. -

Motorsport news Mitas rider Simon Marčič finished Dakar 2020 in 8th place in his category The 2020 Dakar Rally was Simon’s 6th Dakar. Simon finished it in great 8th place in his category Original by Motul and in 50th place overall moto. December 26, 2019 Contact: For immediate release Corporate Planning Department Corporate Communications Section Phone: 81-3-5400-4531 Fax: 81-3-5400-4570 YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR-Equipped Car to Compete in 2020 Dakar Rally Tokyo—The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that a car equipped with the company’s GEOLANDAR M/T G003 tires for SUVs and pickup trucks will compete in the 2020 Dakar Rally to be run from January 5 to17. The GEOLANDAR-equipped car will be a KORANDO DKR driven by Oscar Fuertes Aldanondo and Diego Vallejo for SSANGYONG MOTORSPORT/ SODICARS RACING. The same car and drivers came in third in the T1.3 petrol 2-wheel drive class in the January 2019 Dakar Rally. This year the team will again compete in the T1.3 class. In recent years, the Dakar Rally has been held in South America, but the 2020 rally will be held in Saudi Arabia, in 12 stages that cover the entire country, most of which of course is desert. The rally will start in Jeddah on January 5 and cover a more than 7,500km course that finishes in Qiddiya on January 17. GEOLANDAR M/T G003 tires seek to provide off-road driving enthusiasts with tires that deliver the ultimate performance on every off-road scene, from mud to rock, dirt and gravel. The company constantly seeks to extend the tires’ useful life by enhancing their durability and wear resistance.
