RECIFE / PERNAMBUCO HOST CITY Founded in 1561, Recife is the biggest urban cluster in the northeast region and Brazil’s oldest state capital. It is the place of cutting edge projects such as the Digital Port, which houses around one hundred enterprises that make the city one of the country’s main information technology hubs. In addition, the city is a place of intense and original cultural production, a mix of modern and traditional aspects. With almost 1.5 million inhabitants, the city is characterised by a happy combination of beaches, an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, and culture and history that attract millions of tourists. Recife in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Pernambuco Arena The Pernambuco Arena was built in São Lourenço da Mata (Recife’s metropolitan region) and delivered on 14 April 2013. The ground was the stage of three Confederations Cup matches. The stadium has a seating capacity of 46 thousand people, with 4,700 parking spaces. The arena adopts a multi-purpose concept so that after the tournament, it may be used as a venue for concerts, conventions and other events. The stadium will be the stage of five 2014 World Cup matches. Four matches in the group stage and one in the round of sixteen. In the low tide periods, visitors may enjoy the natural pools surrounded by the reefs.
