Cole, its publisher, donated the "morgue" to Cleveland State University. Representing the archived editorial library, sometimes referred to as a "newspaper morgue," topics focus on the news coverage of northeastern Ohio, with national and international news stories holding a secondary level of importance.The Cleveland Press photograph collection is composed of an archive of over one million photographs. Unit ID: PH2000.000PRE Language(s) of the Materials: English History of The Cleveland Press The Cleveland Press, founded by Edward W. Scripps, began as the Penny Press on 2 Nov. 1878. A small, 4-page afternoon daily, the paper continued to prosper. Shortened to the Press in 1884, and finally the Cleveland Press in 1889, by 1903 the Press was Cleveland's leading daily newspaper. As it entered the 1920s, the Press neared 200,000 in circulation. Louis B. Seltzer became the 12th editor of the Press in 1928, and under his 38-year stewardship the Press became one of the country's most influential newspapers. Seltzer readjusted its original working-class bias into a less controversial neighborhood orientation, stressing personal contacts and promoting the slogan "The Newspaper That Serves Its Readers." In the postwar period the Press continued its public service campaigns and remained an unrivaled force in Ohio politics. -

NEW ARENA FEASIBILITY STUDY City of Rapid City, South Dakota February 2018 February 23, 2018 Mayor Steve Allender City of Rapid City 300 Sixth Street Rapid City, South Dakota 57701 Dear Mayor Allender: Stone Planning LLC has completed its feasibility analysis of a potential new arena at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The attached report presents the results of our research, analysis, findings, and conclusions and recommendations, and is intended to assist the City in evaluating the viability of the facility. The analyses presented in this report are based on estimates, assumptions, and other information developed from industry research, data provided by the City, the RPCC, and others, interviews with local and industry stakeholders, and analysis of other facilities and markets. The sources of information and the basis of assumptions, estimates, and forecasts are stated in this report. Some assumptions inevitably will not materialize and unanticipated events and circumstances may occur. Therefore, actual results achieved will vary from those described and the variations may be material. The findings presented are based on analysis of present and near-term conditions in the Rapid City area, as well as existing interest levels by potential users for a new arena at the RPCC. Any significant changes in the characteristics of the local community, such as change in population, corporate inventory, and/or competitive facilities, could materially impact conclusions and recommendations developed in this study. As in all studies of this type, the estimated results are based on competent and efficient management of the potential facility and assume that no significant changes in the event markets or assumed immediate and local area market conditions will occur beyond those set forth in this report. -

Ware Leisure Services Manager City of Dubuque Leisure Services Department 2200 Bunker Hill Road Dubuque, Iowa 52001 Dear Ms. Ware: The purpose of this summary report and supporting documents is to outline the findings of requested additional research, analysis and planning work associated with the proposed Five Flags Civic Center (FFCC) improvement and expansion project. The work outlined herein (referred to as “Phase 2”) builds on the work and findinGs reached in the Assessment and Study Regarding the Future of the FFCC, dated June 19, 2018. Conventions, Sports & Leisure International (CSL), with the assistance of subcontractors Betsch Associates and FEH DesiGn, led both the original study and this current Phase 2 planninG effort. It is understood that the City of Dubuque (City) desires to advance planning associated with a potential major renovation/improvement project for the FFCC, in advance of a potential ballot measure in 2019 to secure funding for the project. Specifically, the services to be provided include development of more refined layout, proGramminG and preliminary architectural renderings, along with various research and investigation into estimated development costs and fundinG issues associated with the proposed FFCC project. Given the expedited timeframe required to complete this work effort, a summary of our work and findinGs is presented herein. RECOMMENDATION/MOTION: Presentation and discussion only. STRATEGIC PLAN LINK: Goal 1. Financially Sound City Providing Quality Basic Services STRATEGIC PLAN SIGNIFICANCE: Objective 1d. City services delivered in the most cost- effective, efficient manner BACKGROUND: VenuWorks began managing the then, U.S. Cellular Coliseum, in April 2016 under a short-term ninety (90) day agreement. VenuWorks later entered into a long- term Management Agreement with the City for management on July 1, 2016. In the eighteen (18) months under VenuWorks management, Grossinger Motors Arena has been professionally managed, providing a clean and safe arena for all events. VenuWorks proposes to take on management of the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA). VenuWorks currently manages twelve (12) Performing Arts Centers (Theatres) throughout the United States, not including amphitheaters, convention centers, and arenas similar to Bloomington’s Grossinger Motors Arena. Management of multiple City buildings is a natural fit for VenuWorks who operates multiple same-city buildings in a variety of markets. Dual management will allow for reduced cost savings to the City through cross-utilization of staff and providing more consistent work for part-time employees. In addition, improved revenues will be experienced through increasing booking opportunities by networking with other Midwest VenuWorks venues, as well as, expanding concessions and in-house catering. VenuWorks is proposing to manage the BCPA at a flat monthly fee of $3,000 plus • 5% of Gross Food & Beverage (F&B) Sales, less taxes and commissions paid to third party concession providers and non-profit organizations and • 5% of Gross Sales from Contractually Obligated Income (COI) streams secured by VENUWORKS, including Advertising, Sponsorship, Pouring Rights, and Naming Rights Revenues. -
