The sport involves 20 team members paddling in unison to a drummer’s beat in a long, narrow boat decorated at the bow and stern with a dragon’s tail and head. During the second weekend of June, St. Charles, a city that lies 40 miles west of Chicago, hosts the popular Festival of the Fox, whose centerpiece is the Dragon Boat Racing event that transpires on the Fox River. Each July, Arlington Heights, a village 25 miles northwest of Chicago’s downtown, holds the Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival, a celebration that features 30 Dragon Boat teams from the Midwest competing on Lake Arlington. Blue Island, a city located approximately 16 miles south of Chicago’s Loop, hosts a Dragon Boat Festival in June at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Waterfall Park along the historic Calumet-Sag Channel. EQUESTRIAN JUMPING Balmoral Park, the former historic harness racing track in Crete, a village 35 miles south of Chicago, re-opened in 2017 as a reinvented, state-of-the-art equestrian show jumping venue. Featuring nine compe- tition rings, with five set up for hunters (a classic form of forward seat riding) and four for jumpers, horses put on a show as they jump over fences with crossbars and maneuver through a number of obstacles. lighting the way by sharing ideas ICA Spring 2019 EXECUTIVE SECRETARY’S COLUMN Hello, I hope everyone has been having a good spring sports season despite the crazy weather this year. Rain and snow and more rain have made things difficult for all of you. So hopefully we are looking at great weather as we head into the post season tournaments. Good Luck to everyone! Summer is just around the corner and that means plenty of summer camps, tournaments, 7 on 7 compe - titions, summer weight room and summer jobs. With that said, please be mindful of your athletes. As coaches we control how much we ask and expect of our athletes during the summer contact days. Remember that it is summer, not competition season, and kids need a chance to be kids. I can’t be Drew Potthoff more emphatic about the time we are demanding of our athletes in the summer. Make sure that you Executive Secretary plan your summer with your kids and their families in mind as well as your program needs. It’s a good Illinois Coaches idea, especially around the 4 th of July, to plan some off days so that families can be together to celebrate Association the holiday. This year the 4 th of July falls on a Thursday; try to schedule that Wednesday and/or Friday as off days with your athletes and their families. If we can reduce some of the stress on our athletes during the short summer months, it can only bring you rewards from your athletes in that they will be fresher with less burn out come August.

Seltzer readjusted its original working-class bias into a less controversial neighborhood orientation, stressing personal contacts and promoting the slogan "The Newspaper That Serves Its Readers." In the postwar period the Press continued its public service campaigns and remained an unrivaled force in Ohio politics.
