Barry’s construction company specializes in kitch- en/bathroom renovations and home improvement repairs. Living and working in Flushing for the past decade, Barry has encountered a vibrant, multicultural community where he has experienced great food, culture, and people.

How did you become interested in the construction field? I learned how to be handy at a young age, as my father was the superintendent of a large building. My first job was at a gas station where I began learning how to become a mechan- ic. Over the years, I took on several jobs as a plumber, electrician, and laborer, leading me to a successful career in the building trade, including 35 years of doing repairs and mainte- nance with the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA).

What positive effect does working in Flushing have on your small business? At BSA Home Improvement Contractor, we have been fortunate to service Flushing and its surrounding areas with the most affordable prices. Getting to know the people of Flushing on a first-name basis has helped build our foundation. After collaborating with the community, joining the Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce, and advertising online and through social media, I was chosen for Alignable’s “Best Small Business in Flushing for 2018” award.

What advice would you give someone looking to make improvements or renovations on their home? When you are remodeling your kitchen or bathroom, costs can become confusing and mate- rials can get quite expensive. There are a range of cost options you can look into from basic to luxury remodeling, depending on materials. One piece of advice I would like to give is: to save money and hassle, avoid moving plumbing or electricity fixtures. At BSA, we are not afraid to let people know these tips and tricks on how to save money.

What are your goals for the future? The goal for my business is to help make Flushing and its surrounding areas the best place to live, out of all five boroughs. We can help by offering the most reliable and quality services to our fellow neighbors for many years to come. I would be happy to speak with anyone regarding renovating/remodeling their kitchens and bathrooms or any other home improve- ments.
