The PHBA hosted the 39th Annual Iroquois Awards Banquet on June 8 at the Hotel Hershey for a great night of dinner, cocktails, and conversation. Retired Hall of Fame jockey and three-time Eclipse Award winner Ramon Dominguez gave the keynote speech. New this year was the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to Hall of Fame trainer and long-time PA breeder Jonathan Sheppard. We also added awards for the PA-Breds who have achieved a million dollars or more in lifetime earnings. Brushwood Stable’s Unique Bella was crowned Horse of the Year after her incredible achievements in 2017 and has just cracked the million dollar mark herself. Congrats to all the Champions!! Eclipse Award-winning Champion Female Sprinter of 2017 with Paradise Woods through fractions of :22.45 and :44.96, hit Unique Bella went off as the 1-2 favorite for the Grade 1 Beholder the three-quarter-mile mark in 1:09.35 and ran seven furlongs in Mile Stakes on June 2 against a field that included Grade 1 winners 1:22.15 while opening up a daylight lead.
