About this table This table lists the townships (later civil parishes) in County Durham and indicates the electoral register in which they will be found at different times after 1832. Electoral wards tended to equate to townships but more recently they are sub-divisions or amalgamations of civil parishes.
Major changes to the electoral division (or parliamentary constituency) boundaries took place in 1867, 1885, 1918, 1948, 1971, 1983 and 1997, and the organisation of registers changed in 1974 and 2009. The table is sub-divided to reflect these changes.
An electoral division name in italics indicates electoral registers not held by Durham County Record Office.
