CAPTAIN'S ORDERS...Logan Couture currently ranks tied for fifth in the league in scoring (11), and co-leads the West Division with Dustin Brown (11, LAK). His goal against Minnesota on 2/22 was his 10th of the season and marks the second time in his career he has reached the 10 goal mark by his 17th game of the season (2017-18; 10g, 4a in 15 games). His 10 even-strength goals this season are tied for second in the NHL behind Auston Matthews (11).

SLIM MARGINS, BIG RESULTS...The Sharks are currently 6-2-2 in one-goal games, tied for fifth-most wins in the league. Six of the 10 games have extended past regulation, with five going into a shootout.

WILD WEST...The Sharks have currently appeared in five shootouts, most in the league, and have a 4-1 record in the games. Sharks skaters have converted on 50% of their chances (7-14) while San Jose goaltenders have stopped 80.0% of the shots they have faced (12-15). Martin Jones has appeared in four this season thus far, earning a 4-0 record and holding a .917 SV% (11-12). Since joining the Sharks, Jones is 15-6 in shootouts with a .753 SV% (61-81).

FROM DIEGO TO THE BAY...Sasha Chmelevski (Huntington Beach, CA) made his NHL debut on Feb. 5, 2021 against Anaheim, becoming the fourth California-born player to play in a game for the Sharks. He joined Matt Nieto ('13-17 and '20-21), Scott Parker ('03-07) and Craig Coxe ('91-92). It also marked the first time in Sharks franchise history (regular season and playoffs) in which two California-born players suited up for the Sharks in the same game (Nieto). Nieto scored a goal in the contest, with Chmelevski earning the secondary assist on his goal.

NIGHT SHIFT...Brent Burns (27:27) and Erik Karlsson (25:16) are currently first and tenth respectively in the league in average time on ice. Burns is the only player in the league with at least 27 minutes of ice time per game.

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY…Since being named the team’s general manager on May 13, 2003, Doug Wilson has strategically built the San Jose Sharks into one of the NHL’s top franchises through strong drafting, shrewd trades and timely free agent signings. BACK-TO-BACK...TO BACK...At the start of the season, the Sharks were scheduled to face teams in a back-to-back scenario 12 times this season, which was most among NHL teams (EDM &OTT both had 11 as next highest). Last season under Head Coach Bob Boughner, the Sharks went 4-5-3 in back-to-back games (6 sets). So far, the Sharks are 1-0-1 in a back-to-back set, both of which ended in a shootout. The next scheduled back to back is Mar. 5-6 vs. VGK.

JOURNEYMAN...Patrick Marleau appeared in his 23rd NHL season, tied for seventh-most in NHL history. Zdeno Chara and are the only other active players with at least 23 NHL seasons under their belt. Across his NHL career, Marleau has skated in 1,741 NHL games, currently third most in history. Marleau is only 26 games behind Gordie Howe (1,767) for the all-time record and can pass M. Messier (1,756) in the process. He has currently passed J. Jagr (1,733) and R. Francis (1,731) this season. Marleau is also only one of two players to score at least one game-winning goal against 30 of the 31 NHL clubs, having not scored against VGK (Jeff Carter, all but DET).

CLOSING TIME...Brent Burns scored his 40th career GWG on 1/24 @ MIN to become the eighth defenseman in NHL history to reach the mark. the goal was his 27th GWG as a Shark. He is the active leader among defensemen in GWG (40), ahead of Zdeno Chara (35), Shea Weber (35) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson (31).

FUTURE FISH REPORT (2/22) PROSPECT OF THE WEEK...Thomas Bordeleau registered a four-point game on Feb. 20 against Ohio State (2g, 2a), a season high for the freshman. Despite going scoreless on Feb. 19 which snapped a 10-game point streak, the centerman has registered at least one point in 11 of his last 12 games (5g, 13a). He currently leads NCAA freshmen in assists (18), points (25), plus/minus (17), is tied for second in game-winning goals (3), and among all collegiate skaters, ranks tied for fifth in assists.
