1. MEETING OPEN Meeting opened 8am.

2. WELCOME (Gus Maher) Gus introduced and thanked the venue for hosting the meeting.

3. GENERAL MANAGER UPDATE (Gus Maher) Newcastle Live – Gus has continued to meet with Newcastle Live and Newcastle City Council regarding the proposed campaign to invest in bring more people to the area. Updates will be available as this develops.

Newcastle NOW – There will be a meeting taking place with Newcastle NOW on 6 June 2018 regarding something significant that they have proposed for next year. Updates will be available as this develops.

Surfest – Gus has been in meetings with Newcastle Airport and Newcastle City Council regarding a proposal to include a food and wine festival with . Feedback is currently positive.

Visit Newcastle Website – The website refresh is still currently underway, with Gus having been invited to a focus group with the developer.

Supercars – Gus attended a Supercars meeting, centred on tourism. It would be beneficial to facilitate a meeting between Supercars and the hoteliers in the area, to better consult industry.

Newcastle Airport – Gus attending a meeting which discussed a proposed international flight route. Updates will be available as this develops.

2HD Radio – Gus has continued his segment on the Friday’s and invites any member to contact him with upcoming events that are news worthy.

Hamilton Chamber – on 12 June 2018 there will be a lunch hosted by Hamilton Business Chamber at Hudson Street. There will be speakers discussing tactics and tools employed to make their brands ones that immerse consumers and keep them coming back for more.

Throsby Basin Business Chamber - On 22 June 2018 Will Creedon will be a guest speaker at a Throsby Basin Business Chamber breakfast, discussing Newcastle.

4. COUNCIL UPDATE (Gus Maher) Unfortunately Tim Askew was unable to attend the meeting.

Newcastle City Council is currently in a transitional mode with changes to management being underway.

5. CHAIRMAN UPDATE (Will Creedon) Visitor Economy Action Plan - Over the past 12-14 months the industry task force have been meeting with the committee to discuss the action plan for the next 5 years of tourism economy in . 10 days ago a positive meeting occurred with Mr Marshall and recommendations will be going to cabinet on 7 June 2018. This will have a significant impact on tourism and the visitor economy in New South Wales.

Short Term Living - Minister for Regulation, Matt King, released the proposed reforms to short term living on 5 June 2018. Over the next 3 months the details of these reforms will be released.

Chairman Position – Will’s term of 6 months as temporary Chairman of NTIG is coming to an end and at the next NTIG Committee Meeting he will hand over the position to Rolly de With. Rolly will act in the position until the AGM in December.

6. GUEST SPEAKER Gus introduced Christopher Saunders and gave a brief overview of his background.

• Christopher Saunders (Renew Newcastle) Christopher gave a presentation and discussed how Renew Newcastle began and how they have influenced Newcastle over the last decade. Over the last 10 years over 260 projects have come through Renew Newcastle, of which 1 in 3 goes on to be sustainable. There have been a range additional benefits to Newcastle since the initiative began, such as a 69% reduction in vacancy, a 25.6% decrease in property crime, tourism increase, creation of jobs, skill development, improved regional brand value, etc.

The presentation went on to discuss the Newcastle Railway Station and the large variety of proposed ideas for the space. Renew Newcastle currently hold an 18 month lease on the space, which expires on 31 January 2019, and hopes to start using the proposed ideas in the space from September.
