San Francisco—The Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) releases the following upcoming event-related traffic and transit impacts for this weekend, Friday, May 18 through Sunday, May 20, 2018. Anyone traveling in San Francisco can check www.sfmta.com or call 311 to find out which of the 83 Muni lines will get them where they want to go. All road users are encouraged to be aware, share the roadway and to follow all rules to ensure everyone’s safety. Whether you are riding Muni, taking a taxi, walking, riding a bike or driving, please remain vigilant to keep everyone safe. If you see suspicious activity, please report it.

AUA Conference

Friday, May 18 through Monday, May 21: The American Urological Association’s 2018 Annual Meeting will take place at the Moscone Center.

Significant traffic congestion is anticipated in and around Moscone Center between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily for the duration of the conference. Travelers are encouraged to take public transportation or use alternate routes. There will be heavy pedestrian traffic in the area.

AUA Conference continued

The northernmost lane of Howard Street between 3rd and 4th streets will be closed to facilitate shuttle service for the conference.

On Sunday, May 20, during Bay to Breakers event, shuttle service will be shifted to the southernmost lane of Folsom Street between 3rd and 4th streets.

There will be no impact on Muni service.

Taxi Service

There are limited number of temporary taxi stands for the event for pick up and drop off only:  Howard Street (northside) between New Montgomery and 3rd streets, 5 spaces  Howard Street (southside) between 4th and 5th streets, 10 spaces

Treasure Island Gaelic Games

Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20: The San Francisco Gaelic Athletic Association will be holding an athletic event at San Francisco Gaelic Fields on Treasure Island.

A street closure of Avenue “H” between 11th and 13th streets will be required from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., each day.

The 25 Treasure Island Muni route will be affected.

Annual Bay to Breakers Race

Sunday, May 20: The annual Bay to Breakers Race will take place. The SFMTA will provide pre- and post-race service on several Muni rail lines and bus routes for the event.

One of the largest running events in the world, Bay to Breakers will close many streets from the starting line at Main and Howard streets on the east side of San Francisco to the finishing line on the west side of the city on the near Fulton Street. Once the race begins, travelers will only have two options to cross the north/south portion of the race course: The Embarcadero and Crossover Drive (which connects 19th Avenue, south of to Park Presidio Boulevard and 25th Avenue, north of Golden Gate Park). Travelers should expect delays due to street closures during the race and crowds of racers and spectators both before and after the race. The race will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude in the early afternoon.

Single Ride Muni Fare

A single ride fare on Muni is good for 90 minutes of travel, whether it be on a single route or a trip with multiple transfers across buses and light rail. Customers who purchase their fares in advance using a Clipper® Card or to use the official SFMTA app, MuniMobile, can save 25 cents per trip.

Pre-Race

Race participants may purchase special fare Muni pass stickers in advance through the Bay to Breakers registration page.

SFMTA staff will also sell special fare Muni pass stickers at the Bay to Breakers Expo at the Pier 35 on:  Friday, May 18: 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Saturday, May 19: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Muni special fare sticker allows customers unlimited access to all SFMTA regular and express route service (except Cable Cars) on Sunday, May 20 until 5:00 pm.  Special Fare Muni Sticker: $5.50

Muni Metro service will run from West Portal to Embarcadero Station, making stops at all stations.

Post-Race (From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

SFMTA staff will sell Muni fares at the following locations:  Judah Street and 48th Avenue  47th Avenue and Fulton Street

Pre-Race Express Service, 6 to 8 a.m.

The 5R Fulton Rapid bus will depart from Fulton Street and 47th Avenue, making stops at all rapid stops between 47th Avenue and Beale and Mission streets.

The NX Judah Express bus will depart from Judah and La Playa streets, making local stops to 19th Avenue, then travel express to Sansome Street between Bush and Sutter streets.

The N Judah train will depart from 19th Avenue and Judah Street, making regular stops and run to 4th and King streets (Caltrain Station).

Post-Race Service, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to the local Muni routes that serve Golden Gate Park, post-race Express Muni service will be located on both the north and south sides of Golden Gate Park. All post-race express service will end at 2 p.m.

NX N Judah Express Bus will provide express service on the south side of Golden Gate Park from Judah and La Playa streets, will operate on regular stops until 19th Avenue and express to Sansome and Sutter streets (Montgomery BART station).

5X Fulton Express Bus will depart from Fulton and La Playa streets and will operate to Civic Center Muni/BART Station

Muni Service Details:  Significant service disruptions to Muni bus routes and rail lines are anticipated because the race route closures include Howard Street, 9th Street, Hayes Street, Fell Street and John F. Kennedy Drive for approximately four hours. This effectively cuts the City in half.  Affected Muni lines: F, N, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 14R, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 38, 43, 44, 45, 47, 49; Sunday morning bus service on K, M, N and T lines through the areas of Downtown, Civic Center, Hayes Valley, Panhandle, and Golden Gate Park during the race.  Affected city areas: Downtown, Civic Center, Hayes Valley, Panhandle, Golden Gate Park.  Pre-race service hours: 6 to 8 a.m., post-race hours: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Pre-race bus service will be provided from 47th Avenue and Fulton Street and Judah and La Playa streets.  Pre-race Muni Metro service will be provided from West Portal, Castro, Church and Van Ness stations to Embarcadero Station.  Pre-race N Judah service will be provided from Judah Street and 19th Avenue.  Post-race 5 Fulton express bus service will be provided from 47th Avenue and Fulton Street. These buses will travel express to Sansome and Sutter streets.  Post-race 5 Fulton bus service will be provided from Fulton Street and 47th Avenue and will operate on regular stops to Beale and Mission streets.  Post-race N Judah express bus service will be provided from Judah and La Playa streets to Sansome and Sutter streets, make regular stops until 19th Avenue and express to Sansome and Sutter streets.  The 28 19th Avenue Route will have supplemental service running between 19th and Holloway avenues and California Street.  The 29 Sunset Route will have supplemental service running between Lower Great Highway (at Judah Street) and Daly City BART Station.  Streets will be re-opened once the runners have passed and the streets have been cleaned.  Large crowds are expected. Participants and spectators should plan for additional return travel time.

Regional Transit Options

BART, Caltrain, and Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry will operate special early Sunday morning service and Private Chartered Buses will operate express buses from Mill Valley, Emeryville and Millbrae BART stations for the race. Race participants and fans using Bay Area public transportation systems are strongly encouraged to purchase their fares in advance or use Clipper® Card to attend this event. Muni Service to AT&T Park

The following Muni service will be available to and from the event: E Embarcadero; T Third; N Judah; Metro Ballpark Shuttles; 10 Townsend; 30 Stockton; 45 Union and 47 Van Ness.

The SFMTA will provide additional train service of Metro “ballpark shuttles” to the existing N Judah and T Third service to the ballpark.

Muni Ticket Sales

 Muni customers can purchase one-way Muni transfers at the AT&T Park ticket windows located at 2nd and King streets and Willie Mays Plaza. Transfers will be sold from two hours before the game until the game begins, and again from the beginning of the 7th inning until 30 minutes after the game ends.

 Baseball fans transferring from BART may purchase round trip Muni transfer tickets at the Embarcadero Station two and a half hours prior to the start time of the game.

 Transfers will be valid for up to two hours after the end of event.

Muni Ticket Sales - In Person

Muni customers may purchase their fare in advance on-board vehicles and at any Muni ticket vending machine.

Use of Clipper® Card

Sunday Parking

On Sunday, May 20, parking meters in the Special Event Zone near AT&T Park will be enforced.

Special Event Parking Rates

During baseball games and other events at AT&T Park, parking meters close to the ballpark will charge a special event rate of $7 per hour. These rates help make more parking spots available in South Beach and Mission Bay and help reduce congestion by discouraging circling for free or cheap parking near the ballpark.

Garage Parking

If public transit is not a preferred option to attend the event, participants may consider parking in the City’s garages at Moscone Center Garage located at 255 3rd Street or at Fifth & Mission Parking Garage located at 833 Mission Street. Both garages are about 15-20 minute walk from AT&T Park. Parking at these garages will be available in the afternoon and evening on most days. Rates listed are per hour:

As a reminder to fans, in order to reduce congestion on city streets after all events at AT&T Park, the SFMTA will close eastbound King Street between 3rd and 2nd streets from the seventh inning until after the post-game traffic has died down. Additionally, the northbound portion of the 4th Street (Peter R. Maloney) Bridge will be closed to all traffic except streetcars, buses, taxis and bicycles during the post-game period. Giants fans parked south of Mission Creek Channel who are heading north of the channel are encouraged to exit to the south along 3rd or 4th streets in order to avoid congestion on King and 3rd streets after AT&T Park events.

Salesforce Tower Grand Opening

Tuesday, May 22: The Salesforce Tower grand opening will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Significant traffic congestion is anticipated in the vicinity. Travelers are encouraged to take public transportation or use alternate routes. There will be significant heavy pedestrian traffic in the area.

UPDATE: UCSF Mission Bay Arena Platform Project

In anticipation of the new and growth in the Mission Bay, the SFMTA is constructing a new center platform along 3rd Street between South and 16th streets. UPDATE: UCSF Mission Bay Arena Platform Project continued

Since Sunday, May 6, initial construction for potholing of the Overhead Contact System (OCS) started on 3rd Street between Mission Bay North to Mariposa Street to determine if there are any existing utility conflicts. Construction will require intermittent closures of the curbside traffic lane and will last approximately two weeks.

UPDATE: Twin Peaks Tunnel Improvements Weekend Early Closures

Now until June 2018: On weekend evenings and mornings, there will be preparatory work taking place inside Twin Peak Tunnel ahead of the summer closure. In order to allow this vital work to take place, stations will close early on Friday and Saturday nights. Buses will run in place of the K, L and M lines during closures of the Twin Peaks Tunnel.

Friday, May 18 through Monday, May 20: During tunnel closure, operation hours of bus substitutions are as follows:  11 p.m., Friday, May 18 through 9 a.m., Saturday, May 19  11 p.m., Saturday, May 19 through 6 a.m., Sunday, May 20

72-hour Closure During Memorial Day Weekend: May 25 through 28

Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28: During Memorial Day weekend, the Twin Peaks Tunnel will be closed after regular train service late Friday night and will remain closed until regular service starts early morning on Tuesday, May 29. There will be bus substitutions for K, L and M lines for the whole weekend. West Portal and Forest Hill stations will be closed for the weekend.

Muni will apply the same transit plan for both closures during the Memorial Day Weekend and the 60-day shutdown in this summer:  M Ocean View buses will run between Balboa Park and Church Station.  L Taraval buses will run between and Castro Station.  K Ingleside trains will only run a short route between Sloat/St. Francis and Balboa Park.

UPDATE: Twin Peaks Tunnel Improvements Weekend Early Closures continued

During tunnel closure, there will be NO trains for K Ingleside, L Taraval or M Ocean View lines running underground in Muni Metro, customers should use S Shuttles or T Third trains to access bus substitution transfer points.

During the weekends of June 2, June 9 and June 16, train service will operate with usual schedule, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES continued

UPDATE: Twin Peaks Tunnel Improvements Weekend Early Closures continued

This preparatory work is being done ahead of the Twin Peaks Tunnel summer closure. In the summer, 100-year-old Twin Peaks Tunnel will be closed for up to 60 consecutive days in order to replace aging tracks and complete major tunnel improvements.

UPDATE: 8th and Market Boarding Island

A new transit boarding island is currently under construction on 8th Street between Market and Stevenson streets. In coordination with a sewer upgrade effort, construction is in progress and may last until June 2018.

The transit boarding island will provide more space and reliability for transit passengers, and a protected space for bicyclists riding between the sidewalk and boarding island.

Traffic/Transit Impact

 Please follow posted signage to locate the closest 19 Polk and 83X Mid-Market Express bus stop during construction.

 At times, there may be temporary lane closures as crews perform work resulting in possible travel delays. Please plan to allow for extra travel time during construction due to possible delays.

 Traffic will be routed around construction activity as necessary, but will not be detoured. Pedestrian pathways and access to driveways and commercial/ residential buildings will be maintained at all times.

CONSTRUCTION WORK AND OTHER UPDATES continued

UPDATE: Van Ness Improvement Project

The Van Ness Improvement Project is a civic improvement project that will bring San Francisco’s first Bus Rapid Transit system. To maximize the benefits of construction, the City will also be replacing major utilities including water, sewer and emergency firefighting water systems. Work will also be done to repave Van Ness Avenue, enhance streetlights and landscaping, and install new sidewalk lighting and rain gardens.

Traffic lanes on Van Ness Avenue have been shifted to create two construction zones for upcoming utility work. Because some of this work requires reducing Van Ness Avenue to one lane in each direction, some work is limited to nighttime hours. Neighbors will be notified of night noise 72-hours in advance of night work.

Friday, May 18, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.:  Filbert Street: Crews are scheduled to work on sewer main installation. Intensive noise and vibration is expected.  Broadway: Crews are scheduled to work on sewer main installation. Intensive noise and vibration is expected.  Ellis Street: Crews are scheduled to work on water main installation.  Between Fell and Market streets: Crews are scheduled to pothole to confirm underground utilities for upcoming sewer work.

Neighbors are advised to anticipate construction-related noise, as crews work diligently to complete necessary night work.

UPDATE: Construction of Mission Bay Loop

The SFMTA has resumed construction on 18th, 19th and Illinois streets, the project is expected to be completed in late 2018.

The Mission Bay Loop is a key component for San Francisco’s T Third rail line and is critical to operating the T Third Central Subway service plan. The loop provides turn-around capabilities for the T Third Street light rail line via a connection of trackway from 3rd Street to 18th, Illinois and 19th streets, which will allow the SFMTA to operate the necessary service levels needed to support current and planned growth within the eastern portion of San Francisco.

UPDATE: Construction of Mission Bay Loop continued

Traffic, including travelling by bike, may be affected by the construction work. All work areas will be clearly marked and there will be flaggers to help direct traffic. Traveling around and through the construction area should expect minor delays.

Since early April 2017, the contractor has been working on the sewer infrastructure within the center of Illinois Street starting at 18th and Illinois streets. General work hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

In order to conduct the work, parking on both sides including along the historical Crane Cove Park fence (east side of Illinois Street) will be removed 24 hours, 7 days a week from 18th to 19th and Illinois streets for the duration of the project.

Traffic lanes traveling both north and south will remain open and there will be flaggers posted to help direct traffic. The northbound bike lane will be converted to a shared roadway. Expect minor delays when traveling around and through the construction area.

Local access to properties along the project site will be maintained. Sewer work is scheduled to be completed by summer 2018.

ONGOING: Central Subway Project

Pavement restoration work has resumed at some intersections along 4th Street between King and Bryant streets. Construction of the 4th and Brannan streets surface station platform is ongoing. Until further notice, traffic reroutes will remain in effect.

Sewer replacement work continues at night at 4th and Howard streets. Work hours are from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Two through lanes are in place southbound 4th Street. Westbound traffic on Howard Street may be impacted.

One lane on the south side of Ellis Street is open at all times for eastbound traffic. The parking garage between Ellis and O’Farrell is accessible on the north side of Ellis Street. Street restoration work is continuing on the north side of the intersection of Ellis and Stockton streets.

ONGOING: Central Subway Project continued

Washington Street between Stockton Street and Trenton Alley is under a long-term temporary closure to vehicular traffic as station construction continues. Pedestrian access to Washington Street between Stockton Street and Trenton Alley remains open.

The Central Subway project is the first underground line to link the north and south corridors of the city, and will provide a direct connection to major retail, sporting and cultural venues while efficiently transporting people to jobs, educational opportunities and other amenities throughout San Francisco.

ONGOING: Muni Rail Rehabilitation Project

Since Monday, May 14 and continuing for about four weeks, N Judah track maintenance work will take place at the intersection of 11th Avenue and Judah Street. During construction, the N Judah rail service will operate without interruption. While Judah Street remains open, vehicular traffic along 11th Avenue at Judah Street will be detoured.

Work hours are from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Neighbors can expect noise during construction. To accommodate vital materials and equipment, about six parking spaces will be unavailable near the job site.

ONGOING: Polk Streetscape Project

The Polk Streetscape Project is an effort to create a safer, more vibrant corridor for all residents of San Francisco. In addition to increasing safety for everyone traveling on Polk Street, this project will incorporate new lighting, landscaping and street infrastructure. The project is anticipated to be completed in six segments, with construction taking approximately 24 months to complete. General work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Construction began since October 2016 with sewer work on North Point Street, from Polk to Larkin streets.

ONGOING: Polk Streetscape Project continued

San Francisco Public Works will be working to incorporate key safety, sewer and water utility infrastructure improvements and streetscape enhancements along Polk Street, from Beach to McAllister streets. Improvements also include: paving, ADA curb ramps installation, alleyway improvements, sidewalk bulb-outs and bus bulb-outs, traffic signal upgrades, street light upgrades and bicycle lane improvements.

Traffic/Transit Impact

 At times, there may be temporary intersection or lane closures as crews perform work resulting in possible travel delays. Please plan to allow for extra travel time during construction due to possible delays.

 Traffic will be routed around construction activity as necessary. Pedestrian pathways and access to driveways and commercial/residential buildings will be maintained at all times.

Upcoming Events

San Francisco State University Commencement at AT&T Park

Thursday, May 24: San Francisco State University’s 2018 Commencement will be held at AT&T Park. The ceremony will begin at around 6:30 p.m. and conclude with fireworks at around 9:30 p.m. Gates will open at 3 p.m. An attendance of 35,000 is expected.

Motorists are advised to avoid the increased congestion in downtown San Francisco and to avoid using the Bay Bridge two hours before and after the ceremony. Use of public transit, taxi, bicycles or walking is recommended.

Heavy traffic is expected in and around AT&T Park. Those who choose to drive should allow extra travel time.

Muni Service to AT&T Park

The following Muni service will be available to and from the event: E Embarcadero; T Third; N Judah; Metro Ballpark Shuttles; 10 Townsend; 30 Stockton; 45 Union/Stockton; and 47 Van Ness.

The SFMTA will provide additional Metro train service to the ballpark.

Taxi Service

Temporary taxi stands for the event will be in place at the following locations:  East side of 2nd Street between King and Townsend streets, seven spaces  West side of 2nd street between King and Townsend streets, two spaces  West side of 2nd street between Townsend and Brannan streets, five spaces  West side of 3rd street between King and Townsend streets, five spaces

Garage Parking

If public transit is not a preferred option to attend the event, participants may consider parking in the City’s garages at Moscone Center Garage located at 255 3rd Street or at Fifth & Mission Parking Garage located at 833 Mission Street. Both garages are about 15-20 minute walk from AT&T Park. Parking at these garages will be available in the afternoon and evening on most days. Rates listed are per hour:

Moscone Center Garage*  Noon to 3 p.m.: $5.50  3 to 6 p.m.: $2.00  6 p.m. to Closing: $1.00

Critical Mass

Friday, May 25: The Critical Mass bicycle ride will begin at Embarcadero Plaza (formerly Justin Herman Plaza) at 6 p.m.

There will be heavy traffic in the area. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

Carnaval Festival

Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27: The 40th annual Carnaval Festival will take place in the Mission District, on Harrison Street from 16th Street to 24th Street. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Sunday, May 27: The Carnaval Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. The staging area for the parade will be on Bryant Street between 18th and Cesar Chavez streets. Assembly for the parade will begin at 5 a.m. and the parade will finish by 4 p.m.

Monday, May 28 through Wednesday, June 6: Street closures will be required prior to events and activities.

Friday, June 1 through Sunday, June 3: The Colossal ClusterFest, a three-day event featuring several comedians, music and other activities will take place in Bill Graham Auditorium and area.

Memorial Day Holiday Muni Service and Parking Enforcement

Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day Holiday): Muni service will operate on a Sunday schedule. The 76X Marin Headlands Express Muni bus will be in service.

All parking meters in the City will be enforced on Memorial Day Holiday.

Residential parking permits, Monday-Friday daytime street sweeping and commuter towaway will not be enforced. Seven-Day night street sweeping will be enforced.

Vehicles creating a hazard and/or an unsafe condition (i.e. double parking, blocking a bike lane, blocking driveways, blocking crosswalks, fire hydrants, etc.) are subject to receiving citations and can possibly be towed.

Note: Parking meters in the City are enforced Monday through Saturday with the exception of the following areas where parking meters are enforced seven days per week throughout the year except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day:  Parking meters in the Fisherman’s Wharf area  On and near The Embarcadero roadway  In the Special Event Area around AT&T Park  Five metered off-street parking facilities listed below: o 8th Avenue at Clement Street o 9th Avenue at Clement Street
