Anatomical and Morphological Aspects of The Taxa Belonging to Eminium (Blume) Schott (Araceae Juss.) Family, Which Shows Natural Distrıbution in Şanlıurfa Region ABSTRACT Research Article In this study, the morphological and anatomical features of the species of the genus Emineum (Blume) Schott belong to Araceae Juss family, Article History were investigated. The collected species were dried according to herbarium Araceae standards and morphological measurements were performed. These Eminium measurements compared to 'Illustrated Flora of Turkey 'and' Flora of Anatomy Turkey. Anatomical studies were done by modifying the paraffin Morphology method. Hand sections were also taken in anatomical studies. The Şanlıurfa root, scape and leaf anatomies of the taxa were studied. Scapa and leaf anatomy of the Eminium genus were studied for the first time in this study. In this study, the scape anatomy discussed; in the Eminium spiculatum and E. intortum, collenchymal cell clusters were observed at regular intervals under the epidermis. Collenchymatic cell clusters have not been observed at E. rauwolffii. In all three species of leaf anatomy, stoma cells in the epidermis are mesomorphic and amphistomatic. Stoma type was anomocytic and parasitic stoma. To Cite : Çeçen C, Akan H, Balos MM 2019. Şanlıurfa Yöresinde Doğal Yayılış Gösteren Eminium (Blume) Schott (Araceae Juss.) Eminium regelii Vved was discovered on the territory of Kazakhstan national reserve Aksu-Zhabagly. Distinctive biological characteristic of Eminium regelii is a wedge-shaped base of a leaf that smoothly turns into petiole. Leaf base of Eminium lehmannii is heart-shaped or obtuse-angled. Specific weight of aluminium is the greatest of all 21 elements contained in over-ground and underground parts of plant. Leaves contain 24% of aluminium and tubers contain 66% of aluminuim of all amount if mineral elements. Two flavonoids are discovered in Eminium regelii: luteolin and quercetin. The family contains 105 genera and 3300 species. About 90% of the genera and about 95% of the species are found in tropical areas. It contains species of medical value and used as food among the public. Arum, Biarum, Dracunculus, Eminium, and Arisarum are the most important genera in Turkey. As a result of the study, the authors found that eleven Arum, one Biarum, and one Dracunculus taxa are used as herbal medicine in Turkish Traditional Medicine. One of them is endemic: Arum rupicola var. rupicola Boiss. It has been determined that taxa of the family are mostly used by local people for hemorrhoid, eczema, rheumatism, and cancer. It belongs to the group with entire leaf blades but differs from all known species of this genus by the connate tube of the spathe and its flowering without leaves. Additional key words: aroids, taxonomy, Zagros Mts Introduction When Mr Michael Jaeger sent us colour photographs of an unknown tuberous aroid from north- western Iran in 2006, we were puzzled as it appeared to combine characters from two different genera: (1) a connate tube of the lower spathe reminiscent of most Biarum species, and (2) the short and relatively thick appendix reminiscent of Eminium. Although all known Eminium spe- cies have a convolute tube of the spathe, the spadix of our plant clearly shows the typical charac- ters of the genus Eminium: a long axis with usually scattered, thread-like sterile flowers between the female and male zone of the spadix and a unilocular ovary with two ovules (instead of one as in Biarum). Also molecular data (N. Cusimano, unpublished, pers. comm.) confirms the inclu- sion of our new species in the genus Eminium. Eminium jaegeri Bogner & P. C. Boyce, sp. nov. A subject and to develop some remarks on second summary was published in 1997 in aroid pollination. The Genera of Araceae (Mayo et al., 1997) with 38 genera and less than 100 species listed including data from Grayum (1986, RESULTS 1990). This paper brings the reference list Summarizing data from Grayum (1984, up to date since 1997, documenting the 1990) and Mayo et al. (1997), and includ- pollinators of 49 genera and about 125 ing omitted and new publications, the pol- species. These numbers are still very low in comparison with the diversity of the Ar- linators of 49 genera and about 125 spe- aceae family which contains 105 genera cies are documented in Table 1. These and about 3,300 species. Some questions numbers are still very low in comparison on aroid pollination are developed in the with the diversity of the Araceae family discussion. which contains 105 genera and about 3,300 species (Mayo et al., 1997). Thus, KEY WORDS pollinators are cited for only 47% of the genera.

  • Recent Progress in the Phylogenetics and Classification of Araceae
9 Recent progress in the phylogenetics and classification of Araceae Simon J. Mayo, Josef Bogner and Natalie Cusimano 9.1 Introduction The aim of this paper is to review progress in phylogenetic research of Araceae during the period since publication of the first major molecular study by French et al. (1995). This, the first cladogram of the whole family inferred from DNA molecular data (Fig 9.1), resulting from research by J.C. French, M. Chung and Y. Hur, was based on chloroplast restriction site data (RFLPs or restriction frag- ment length polymorphisms). Their paper was highly significant and marked the beginning of the modern era of molecular phylogenetics of Araceae, nowadays based on DNA sequence data (e.g. Cabrera et al., 2008; Cusimano et al., 2011; Nauheimer et al., 2012b). It was innovative for Araceae in other ways as well, being the first family-scale cladistic analysis using computer algorithms and the first published cladogram for the family as a whole using genera as the ultimate operational taxonomic units (OTUs). No attempt has been made in the present chapter to discuss in detail the work of the previous 25 years during which many significant advances in systematic knowledge of the family were made, both in morphological taxonomy, but also in other fields such as cytology, palynology, phytochemistry, anatomy, fossil aroids, pollination biology and seedling morphology. Reviews of this literature have been provided by various authors, including Petersen (1989), Grayum (1990), Early Events in Monocot Evolution, eds P. Wilkin and S. J. Mayo. Published by Cambridge University Press. © The Systematics Association 2013.
