This report provides an assessment and compilation of recreation-related monitoring data sources across the National Wilderness Preservation System (NWPS). Telephone interviews with managers of all units of the NWPS and a literature search were conducted to locate studies that provide campsite impact data, trail impact data, and information about visitor characteristics. Of the 628 wildernesses that comprised the NWPS in January 2000, 51 percent had baseline campsite data, 9 percent had trail condition data and 24 percent had data on visitor characteristics. Wildernesses managed by the Forest Service and National Park Service were much more likely to have data than wildernesses managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Fish and Wildlife Service. Both unpublished data collected by the management agencies and data published in reports are included. Extensive appendices provide detailed information about available data for every study that we located. These have been organized by wilderness so that it is easy to locate all the information available for each wilderness in the NWPS. a Wall in the Wild The Disastrous Impacts of Trump’s Border Wall on Wildlife Noah Greenwald, Brian Segee, Tierra Curry and Curt Bradley Center for Biological Diversity, May 2017 Saving Life on Earth Executive Summary rump’s border wall will be a deathblow to already endangered animals on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. This report examines the impacts of construction of that wall on threatened and endangered species along the entirety of the nearly 2,000 miles of the border between the United States and Mexico. TThe wall and concurrent border-enforcement activities are a serious human-rights disaster, but the wall will also have severe impacts on wildlife and the environment, leading to direct and indirect habitat destruction. A wall will block movement of many wildlife species, precluding genetic exchange, population rescue and movement of species in response to climate change. This may very well lead to the extinction of the jaguar, ocelot, cactus ferruginous pygmy owl and other species in the United States. To assess the impacts of the wall on imperiled species, we identified all species protected as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act, or under consideration for such protection by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (“candidates”), that have ranges near or crossing the border. We also determined whether any of these species have designated “critical habitat” on the border in the United States. Finally, we reviewed available literature on the impacts of the existing border wall. We found that the border wall will have disastrous impacts on our most vulnerable wildlife, including: 93 threatened, endangered and candidate species would potentially be affected by construction of a wall and related infrastructure spanning the entirety of the border, including jaguars, Mexican gray wolves and Quino checkerspot butterflies. -

COMPATIBILITY DETERMINATION USE: Hunting (Migratory Birds, Upland and Big Game) REFUGE NAME: Havasu National Wildlife Refuge (NWR/refuge) ESTABLISHING AND ACQUISITION AUTHORITIES: Havasu NWR, originally known as Havasu Lake NWR, was established by Executive Order 8647 on January 22, 1941, by President Franklin Roosevelt. REFUGE PURPOSE(S): For lands acquired under Executive Order 8647 "...as a refuge and breeding grounds for migratory birds and other wildlife...” For lands acquired under the Refuge Recreation Act “...suitable for (1) incidental fish and wildlife-oriented recreational development, (2) the protection of natural resources, (3) the conservation of endangered species or threatened species..." For lands acquired under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act "...for the development, advancement, management, conservation, and protection of fish and wildlife resources...for the benefit of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service [Service], in performing its activities and services. Such acceptance may be subject to the terms of any restrictive or affirmative covenant, or condition of servitude...” Additional lands totaling 2,757 acres were subsequently added on February 11, 1949, per Public Land Order 559. The purpose of these additional acres was the same as the purpose set out in Executive Order 8647. The Lower Colorado River Land Use Plan (USDOI 1964) describes the high wildlife values of Topock Marsh, Topock Gorge, and the Bill Williams River. Vessel General Permit (VGP) Version 2/5/2009 United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) VESSEL GENERAL PERMIT FOR DISCHARGES INCIDENTAL TO THE NORMAL OPERATION OF VESSELS (VGP) AUTHORIZATION TO DISCHARGE UNDER THE NATIONAL POLLUTANT DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM In compliance with the provisions of the Clean Water Act (CWA), as amended (33 U.S.C. 1251 et seq.), any owner or operator of a vessel being operated in a capacity as a means of transportation who: • Is eligible for permit coverage under Part 1.2; • If required by Part 1.5.1, submits a complete and accurate Notice of Intent (NOI) is authorized to discharge in accordance with the requirements of this permit. General effluent limits for all eligible vessels are given in Part 2. Further vessel class or type specific requirements are given in Part 5 for select vessels and apply in addition to any general effluent limits in Part 2. Wild Cats of the Sky Islands: A Summary of Monitoring Efforts Using Noninvasive Techniques Lisa Haynes, Zoe Hackl, and Melanie Culver School of Renewable Natural Resources, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ Abstract—A variety of efforts are taking place to detect, inventory, and monitor the wild felids (pumas, bobcats, jaguars, and ocelots) of the Madrean Archipelago. Researchers are using a suite of noninvasive methods, including infrared-triggered photography, DNA analysis of scat and hair (collected from “hair snares”), and old-fashioned tracking and sign searches. These efforts are being conducted by a variety of academic, government, and non-governmental organizations in the United States and Mexico. Appendix H: LHFO RMP Decisions Conformance with Land Use Plan: The proposed action would conform to the decisions of the Lake Havasu Field Office RMP (2007) as identified with the decisions and excerpts shown below. WF-6. Within WHAs, the route designation process will determine route closures and/or limitation to meet habitat objectives. Page 112: The BLM will designate a Travel Management Network (TMN) for the planning area within 5 years of adoption of this Approved RMP through the TMP. The TMP will evaluate and designate all individual routes/trails for use within the planning area unless specified elsewhere in this Approved RMP. The BLM will follow the process as listed in Appendix B, Administrative Actions and Standard Operating Procedures, of this Approved RMP, when creating the TMN, including evaluating routes using the criteria listed in the Route Evaluation Tree in Appendix L (in the RMP). TM-1. Designations will be made and management implemented for a balance of opportunities for the entire range of motorized and non-motorized access needs, while in balance with other resource values found on public lands. TM-2. Reasonable, safe, and environmentally sound access will be provided to visitors, local residents, licensed or permitted activities, and property owners. Lake Havasu Field Office will be linked with other state, regional, and land management agencies or interest groups to better facilitate travel management. TM-3. Travel between communities within the planning area will be made safer. TM-4. Public access easements will be acquired across private or state lands where public access to federal lands and waterways is not available. -

These books have set the national standard for geologic guidebooks and are an essential geologic reference for anyone working in or around New Mexico. Free Downloads NMGS has decided to make peer-reviewed papers from our Fall Field Conference guidebooks available for free download. Non-members will have access to guidebook papers two years after publication. Members have access to all papers. This is in keeping with our mission of promoting interest, research, and cooperation regarding geology in New Mexico. However, guidebook sales represent a significant proportion of our operating budget. Therefore, only research papers are available for download. Road logs, mini-papers, maps, stratigraphic charts, and other selected content are available only in the printed guidebooks.
