Memo to District Parents Re School Cancellations SCHOOL DISTRICT OF NEW BERLIN December 2009 To: Parents/Guardians of New Berlin Public/Private Schools Fr: Joe Garza, Assistant Superintendent Su: Alternative School Schedule/Closing Due to Inclement Weather Please be advised of the following practices of the School District of New Berlin pertaining to the operation of schools during inclement weather. The following options may be utilized by the school district when weather conditions require a change in the school schedule: 1. Normal school schedule. (Buses will run normal schedule but may be late due to road conditions.) 2. Two hour delay in a.m. with normal dismissal times. (All pick-up times delayed two hours with normal p.m. dismissal times.) 3. School closed. (All activities cancelled for the day and evening.) 4. Early release in p.m. (Schools will dismiss earlier in normal p.m. sequence.) 5. If Milwaukee Public Schools are closed, there will be no bus service for the 220 children. 6. If during a normal school day, weather conditions warrant an early release, consideration is also given to dismissing earlier. This option is used to avoid pending inclement weather conditions and will allow students to be dropped off prior to the dark evening hours. Public School District parents will be notified of any changes as immediate as possible via our Instant Alert messaging system, as well as checking our District website at www.nbexcellence.org for updates. Parents may also choose to turn to the following stations for information pertaining to changes in school schedules due to inclement weather or other emergencies. These stations will be notified as soon as a decision is made: WTMJ (Channel 4) WOKY - 920 AM WTMJ – 620 AM WITI (Channel 6) WSSP – 1250 AM WKKV – 100.7 FM WISN (Channel 12) LAKE – 94.5 FM WISN – 1130 AM WDJT (Channel 58) WRIT – 95.7 FM WMYX – 99.1 FM Cable Channel 13 WQBW – 97.3 FM WMIL – 106.1 FM WXSS – 103.7 FM It is important for parents/guardians to have alternative plans available for their child/children in the event that bus/school schedules are altered due to weather or other emergency conditions. The District would like to thank all parents and guardians for their cooperation during these procedures. 12/09 Transportation/Weather .

  • Nearly $1 Million Donated to 30 Local Children's
NEARLY $1 MILLION DONATED TO 30 LOCAL CHILDREN’S CHARITIES THROUGH POTAWATOMI BINGO CASINO’S MIRACLE ON CANAL STREET MILWAUKEE (Dec.9, 2011) – Thirty children’s charities from southeastern Wisconsin are splitting $989,239 tonight, after Potawatomi Bingo Casino announced the amount of money raised during their 2011 Miracle on Canal Street program. Each charity received $32,841. Additionally, the program surpassed $11 million raised since its inception in 1994. Money for the program is raised primarily through special Miracle bingo games. The funds have been accumulating throughout the year and the 2011 total was revealed during an event tonight in the Casino’s Nest of Life Bingo Hall. “It’s a privilege to be part of this program and to help the children these charities serve,” said Melanie Martin, Bingo Director at Potawatomi Bingo Casino. “We see our Miracle charities doing amazing things each and every year. Seeing the great services these organizations provide is truly inspiring.” The contribution comes at a time when many charities are finding it more difficult to deliver services due to a decrease in contributions. According to the Wisconsin Nonprofit Economic Impact Report, released by Forward Community Investments this week: • Thirty-eight percent of 325 Wisconsin non-profit organizations surveyed plan on reducing or modifying services, compared with 33 percent in 2010 and 29 percent in 2009. • Twenty-four percent of non-profits had cash reserves of one month or less. “Contributions received from Miracle on Canal Street mean more today than they ever have,” said Sherrie Tussler, Executive Director of Hunger Task Force.
