Introduced as the eighth head coach in the program’s 43-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, Toole signed a one-year contract ex- tension at RMU January 19, 2017, and will lead the Colonials through the 2020-21 campaign. In nine seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 169-146 (.537), including a mark of 102-58 (.638) against Northeast Conference opponents. Toole has overseen the most successful stretch in school history during his 12-year tenure at Robert Morris. Named an assistant coach under former head coach Mike Rice in 2007, Toole was ele- vated to associate head coach the following season before taking over the reigns as head coach in 2010. During Toole's nine seasons as head coach at RMU, the Colonials have claimed two NEC regular-season championships (2013, 2014), appeared in four NEC Tournament championship games (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015) and have made five national postseason appearances. Robert Morris played in its first CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) in 2012, earned automatic bids to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in both 2013 and 2014 and appeared in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. In 2019, the Colonials accepted their second bid to the CIT. Six of RMU's seven victories in a national postseason tournament have come under Toole. In 2011-12, his second year as head coach, Toole led the Colonials to an overall record of 26-11 (.703). Robert Morris tied a school record for victories by advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2012 CIT thanks to road wins over Indiana State and Toledo. RMU also claimed its third victory in the CIT in 2019 by posting a 98-89 overtime win over Cornell The Toole File at the North Athletic Complex. Following a regular season that saw him earn national acclaim, Mount St. Mary’s senior guard Junior Robinson (Mebane, NC/ Eastern Alamance) was unanimously named the NEC Player of the Year in a vote conducted by the league’s head coaches. NEC Rookie of the Year honors went to Robert Morris freshman forward Koby Thomas (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter). Mount St. Mary’s earned a second major honor when senior forward Chris Wray (Shelby, NC/Shelby (Fishburne Military School (VA))) was tabbed the NEC Defensive Player of the Year. Saint Francis U junior guard Andre Wolford (Willowick, OH/ Saint Ignatius) was voted the NEC’s Most Improved Player. Wagner’s Bashir Mason was chosen as the Jim Phelan Coach of the Year after leading the Seahawks to the NEC regular season title. The future also looks bright for the conference with 11 of the 15 All-NEC award recipients set to return next season, including five underclassmen.
