2014-01-27 11:40 CET Paloma Faith släpper nya albumet "A Perfect Contradiction" 7 mars Den 7 mars släpper Paloma Faith sitt nya sprakande album ”A Perfect Contradiction”. Första smakprovet från nya albumet heter ”Can’t Rely On You” och är ett samarbete med Pharrell Williams. ”A Perfect Contradiction” är Paloma Faiths tredje album och följer upp ”Fall To Grace” som släpptes 2012 och sålde dubbel platina. Det nya albumet innefattar samarbeten med rad legendariska artister, låtskrivare och producenter som John Legend, Diane Warren, Plan B, Stewart Matthewman, Raphael Saadiq och Pharrell Williams. Det nya albumet markerar en förändring i Palomas sound. Hon berättar: “Its tone is the very opposite of what the last album was. There are a couple of melancholy moments, sure, but it’s much more a ‘if it’s all gone to shit, fuck it, let’s have a dance’ kind of record.” Paloma Faith skrev en stor del av materialet till ”A Perfect Contradiction” då hon bodde i New York förra året. Inspelningarna av albumet har skett i Miami, Los Angeles, London och New York. Paloma har inspirerats av bland annat Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, The Fugees och N.E.R.D. Tongivande för nya albumet är Candi Stations klassiker ”Young Hearts Run Free” – en låt där texten kommunicerar sorg men framförandet ändå förmedlar att allt är möjligt. “I’ve been reflecting on things that have been tough, but I’m almost celebrating that. Mancuso © 2018 Steven Robert Bellavia All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Andrew Schocket, Advisor This dissertation examines the experiences of the final Cold War generation. I define this cohort as a subset of Generation X born between 1965 and 1971. The primary focus of this dissertation is to study the ways this cohort interacted with the three messages found embedded within the Cold War us vs. them binary. These messages included an emphasis on American exceptionalism, a manufactured and heightened fear of World War III, as well as the othering of the Soviet Union and its people. I begin the dissertation in the 1970s, - during the period of détente- where I examine the cohort’s experiences in elementary school. There they learned who was important within the American mythos and the rituals associated with being an American. This is followed by an examination of 1976’s bicentennial celebration, which focuses on not only the planning for the celebration but also specific events designed to fulfill the two prime directives of the celebration. As the 1980s came around not only did the Cold War change but also the cohort entered high school. Within this stage of this cohorts education, where I focus on the textbooks used by the cohort and the ways these textbooks reinforced notions of patriotism and being an American citizen.

Publicity photo: the housewife diva, 3 July 1965 (Alamy) i Abstract The Australian soprano Marie Collier (1927-1971) is generally remembered for two things: for her performance of the title role in Puccini’s Tosca, especially when she replaced the controversial singer Maria Callas at late notice in 1965; and her tragic death in a fall from a window at the age of forty-four. The focus on Tosca, and the mythology that has grown around the manner of her death, have obscured Collier’s considerable achievements. She sang traditional repertoire with great success in the major opera houses of Europe, North and South America and Australia, and became celebrated for her pioneering performances of twentieth-century works now regularly performed alongside the traditional canon. Collier’s experiences reveal much about post-World War II Australian identity and cultural values, about the ways in which the making of opera changed throughout the world in the 1950s and 1960s, and how women negotiated their changing status and prospects through that period. She exercised her profession in an era when the opera industry became globalised, creating and controlling an image of herself as the ‘housewife-diva’, maintaining her identity as an Australian artist on the international scene, and developing a successful career at the highest level of her artform while creating a fulfilling home life. This study considers the circumstances and mythology of Marie Collier’s death, but more importantly shows her as a woman of the mid-twentieth century navigating the professional and personal spheres to achieve her vision of a life that included art, work and family.

Press Release Monday, 29 January 2018 For Immediate Release Paloma Faith to Play at Lingfield Park Award-winning British female artist Paloma Faith will take to the stage at Lingfield Park this summer – hot on the heels of her first UK Number 1 album. The Brit-Award winning star will perform after evening racing on Saturday August 11th from a stage constructed in the centre of the racecourse. Executive Director David Toulson-Burke said: ‘We are hugely excited to welcome Paloma Faith – and all her fans – to an exciting evening’s racing on the turf, followed by the concert. ‘ He stressed that a number of lessons had been learned from live events hosted at Lingfield Park over the last year, including the position of the stage. ‘For Paloma Faith’s concert in August, we will position the stage in the centre of the racecourse to enable maximum viewing and access to the Grandstand area, by the audience,’ he explained. ‘We were very unlucky with the weather at our last live gig, when a capacity crowd gathered in torrential rain to watch a superb live performance. ‘Obviously health and safety was our number one priority on this night, and this led to some issues over access. For this concert, we will make sure that the viewing points are vastly improved. ‘We are very aware of the expectations placed upon us by our customers and we will not let them down,’ added Mr Toulson-Burke.
