www.cjfl.net “For all your CJFL Information & News” The CJFL TOTAL THURSDAY Newsletter Brought to you by Issue 3 – Volume 1 "The CJFL gratefully acknowledges the support of the following Sponsors" "The Canadian Junior Football League provides the opportunity for young men aged 17 to 22 to participate in highly competitive post-high school football that is unique in Canada. The goal of the league is to foster community involvement and yield a positive environment by teaching discipline, perseverance and cooperation. The benefits of the league are strong camaraderie, national competition and life-long friends." History of True Sport In 2001, Canada’s Federal-Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for sport came together to bring ethics and respectful conduct back into the way Canadians play and compete. They believed that damaging practices—cheating, bullying, violence, aggressive parental behaviour, and even doping—were beginning to undermine the positive impact of community sport in Canada. The first step they took in turning back this negative tide was the signing of what is now known as the London Declaration, an unprecedented affirmation of positive sporting values and principles. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport conducted a nationwide survey in 2002, which made clear the important role that sport plays in the lives of Canadians, as well as Canadians’ strong desire to uphold a model of sport that reflects and teaches positive values like fairness, inclusion, and excellence. In September of 2003, leading sports officials, sports champions, parents and kids from across Canada came together through a symposium entitled “The Sport We Want.” Several strong messages emerged from this gathering.

  • •2011 CJFL Record Book Special:2007 Record Book
…Introduction This edition of our Record Book includes some new material and recent research. First, we had an opportunity to obtain the original game sheets from former PJFC Chief Statistician Darly Slade. These sheets are from 1976 to 1982 and provide us with a hugh catalogue of lost information. Included in the Prairie papers were copies of weekly stats releases from the BC, Manitoba and Ontario Conferences. In particular there was a 1978 letter from former OFC Chief Statistician Lloyd Norton regarding the suspension of the Etobicoke-Lakeshore Bears by President Paul Teolis. In researching this matter we also found that Scarboro Rams ceased operations for the season some 10 days later and that both teams were missing in previous OFC final standings. This has been updated. Also, we have learned from Paul Shortt that the 1978 BC league had similar issues in 1978. North Shore Cougars failed to field a team and Vancouver Blue Bombers folded after just two games. More detailed information can be found in the 1978 Milestone section. Secondly, more newspaper articles became available for the Eastern teams of 1904 to 1913, the Manitoba juniors of 1912 & 1913, the Western Groups of the 1927 Jr ORFU, as well as the 1949 and 1970 Jr ORFU. These team standings have been update. New research information on the actual organization structure of both the ORFU and the QRFU have required us to refer to them as the Junior ORFU or QRFU per say rather than the ORFU- QRFU Juniors. The Eastern team standings are updated on this change.

  • A Message of Hope, a Message of Victory
Special Olympics BC British Columbia Winter 2017 A message of hope, a message of victory 2017 will go into the history books as an inspiring and impactful year for Special Olympics BC. Nearly 1,200 athletes with intellectual disabilities inspired everyone watching as they competed in the largest Special Olympics BC Games to date. Our year-round programs and fundraising support continued to grow and strengthen, changing more lives through the power and joy of sport, and changing the way the world sees people with intellectual disabilities. We launched a new strategic plan that will help SOBC continue to grow and increase the impact of our game-changing movement with a strong vision for the next four years and many more to come. 2018 will offer an opportunity to look back at this movement’s five decades of joy, courage, and empowerment, and look forward to inspire new generations to see the dignity and ability in all of us. The first Special Olympics Games were held in Chicago in July 1968, opening minds and hearts to a new era of seeing the abilities of individuals with intellectual disabilities and showing them the respect and inclusion they deserve. Now what was once a one-day competition to celebrate ability has become the global Special Olympics movement changing the world through sport every day. As Eunice Kennedy Shriver told Special Olympics World Games competitors in 1987, “By your presence, you send a message to every village, every city, and every nation. A message of hope, a message of victory. … The days of separation and segregation are over.” Zack Thibeault Read on to find out more about our life- and Daniel changing movement and how everyone can Batson in flight get involved to make a difference through at the 2017 SOBC the power of sport.
