Apart from being a political centre of India, Delhi is also a commercial, transport and cultural hub, making it a city most cherished and visited by all. These factors have given the route to host the inaugural 1951 Asian Games, 1982 Asian Games, 1983 NAM Summit, 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2012 BRICS Summit, one of the major host cities of the 2011 Cricket World Cup, which have glorified Delhi’s fame all over the world. It has state-of-the-art healthcare, transport, and public services. Delhi represents a beautiful amalgamation of ancient culture and modernity. 2. A varied history has left behind a rich architectural and cultural heritage in Delhi. In the words of famous Urdu poet, Mir Taqi Mir, Delhi’s streets were not alleys but parchment of a painting, every face that appeared, seemed to be a masterpiece. On one side it has Old Delhi, narrow lanes rich in history and fragrances of food as unique as Old Delhi, and on the other side, it has New Delhi which has lush green areas of the Lutyens and diplomatic zones. 3. Delhi has also been famous for its various gardens and botanical parks. The Garden of Five Senses, the Lodi Gardens, the Mughal Gardens, the Buddha Jayanti Park, and Nehru Park are some of the gardens famous among the people of the city. The city has several historical monuments that are highly treasured by the country. Delhi is home to some of the nation’s best collection of art galleries and museums, which showcase everything from ancient antiquities to contemporary art.

CHAPTER 21 TOURISM IN DELHI Delhi city is sprinkled with dazzling gems: captivating ancient monuments, fascinating museums and art galleries, architectural wonders, a vivacious performing-arts scene, fabulous eating places and bustling markets. With its rich and diverse cultural heritage, Delhi is also used as a gateway for travelling to cities of India. The city is significant for the role it has played throughout history, having been the centre of an empire for the majority of this millennium. It is an important city in the Indian subcontinent and comparisons have often been made to other great cities of the world. However, very few cities carry with them, to such an extent, the weight of several layers of continuous history. 1.2 One can have a fascinating glimpse into the past in Old Delhi, with its labyrinth of narrow lanes, old havelis, and colourful bazaars. Rickshaws wind their way through this crowded, bustling capital of the Mughals, where life continues, much as it did hundreds of years ago. Modern Delhi has a lot more to offer. Delhi has a modern, well-planned and extensive Metro network that connects all corners of Delhi; this network is still growing. New roadways and flyovers have improved connectivity, the latest of which is the Signature Bridge, an ambitious project of Delhi Tourism. Delhi Tourism is on a mission to change status quo and ensure that Delhi becomes a world-class tourist destination and the leader in art, culture, music, theatre, film and entertainment. 1.3 In 1911, British shifted their capital from Calcutta to Delhi.

These stations were selected on the basis of their footfall and further connectivity options.. The study reveals the shortfalls in the public transportation system of Delhi and suggests recommendations to better integrate the Metro with other modes of travel. The audits were carried out using the SafetiPin App. SafetiPin, is a map-based mobile phone application, which works to make communities and cities safer by providing safety- related information collected by users and by trained auditors. • Film Shooting Manual for Shooting of Films in Delhi
FILM SHOOTING MANUAL FOR SHOOTING OF FILMS IN DELHI Delhi Tourism Govt. of NCT of Delhi 1 “I asked my soul: What is Delhi? She replied: The world is the body and Delhi its life. - Mirza Ghalib” A city full of historical wonders, Delhi has many tourist sites. Sprinkled with ruins, one can walk through timelines, from one era to another, from one world to another and from one story to another. From the ancient to the medieval and from the modern to the contemporary, one can experience the city through its monuments, forts, ruins, old and new towns that represent India’s history. Embracing two worlds, Old Delhi is a labyrinth of mysterious narrow lanes, havelis and majestic mosques and New Delhi is composed of spacious tree lined avenues, imposing government buildings and modern infrastructure. It embodies the stark, almost absurd, contrast of India: A world class metro system, the chaos of Old Delhi and the Colonial serenity of Lutyens Delhi. 2 Delhi has a rich & intense history depicting remarkable continuity and has the unique distinction of having been India’s capital longer than any other city. The city has survived all the changes of time and fortune. It has frequently changed its form, its character and its name. It has seen the rise and fall of many civilizations and empires. From Indraprastha of Mahabharata to the present New Delhi, it has grown into a mega metropolis. Due to such a rich heritage, Delhi is the home of some of the greatest architectural marvels and a culture so unique and diverse.
