Information: Frank McHugh, Monea is currently completing a Masters’ Dissertation on Associational Culture in the Parish of Botha from 1881-1926 (sport, music, political activity, WW1, Irish Volunteers, AOH, clubs and any other activity that involves people coming together in groups).     Cavan Burren Park Teacher’s Sheet Visit Time: 3 – 4 hours Cavan Burren Park is one of the finest archaeological landscapes in Ireland. This once dense conifer plantation has been opened up to allow good access to a number of key geological sites and provides the ideal place to understand the close links between archaeology and geology. Scale: 1:17712 Teacher’s Notes SUGGESTED POINTS TO NOTE STOPS All sites can be accessed from the visitor centre at Cavan Burren Park. This is reached by following Access the signs from the entrance. There is ample parking for both buses and cars, and picnic tables and toilet facilities are provided. The Burren Forest is an area of approximately 300 acres (1.2km2) and comprises one of the finest archaeological landscapes in the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark. Evidence of settlement ranging from Neolithic farmers right up to 19th Century farmsteads are all found within the forest as well as a host of other evidence from the time periods in between. Cavan Burren Park is owned by Coillte, the Irish semi-state forestry body who manage the site as an active timber plantation together with Cavan County Council who manage the site for recreational purposes. The afforestation of the area in the 1950s has not only helped to preserve this relict landscape but has also helped to protect some fine geological and geomorphological features.

    HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT DIVISION Historic Monuments of Northern Ireland Scheduled Historic Monuments 1st April 2016 NORTHERN IRELAND ENVIRONMENT AGENCY DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT HISTORIC MONUMENTS OF NORTHERN IRELAND Historic Environment Division identifies, protects, records, investigates and presents Northern Ireland's heritage of archaeological and historic sites and monuments. The Department has statutory responsibility for the sites and monuments in this list which are protected under Article 3 of the Historic Monuments and Archaeological Objects (NI) Order 1995. They are and are listed in alphabetical order of townland name within each county. The Schedule of Historic Monuments at April 2016 This schedule is compiled and maintained by the Department and is available for public consultation at the Monuments and Buildings Record, Waterman House, 5-33 Hill Street, Belfast BT1 2LA. Additions and amendments are made throughout each year and this list supersedes all previously issued lists. To date there are 1,977 scheduled historic monuments. It is an offence to damage or alter a scheduled site in any way. No works should be planned or undertaken at the sites listed here without first consulting with Historic Environment Division and obtaining any necessary Scheduled Monument Consent. The unique reference number for each site is in the last column of each entry and should be quoted in all correspondence. Where sites are State Care and also have a scheduled area they are demarcated with an asterisk in this list The work of scheduling is ongoing, and the fact that a site is not in this list does not diminish its unique archaeological importance.     DIOCESE OF CLOGHER PRESS RELEASE Monday 26 March 2018 – Monday of Holy Week Attn: Newsdesks, Photodesks and Religious Affairs Correspondents HOLY WEEK LITURGIES IN THE DIOCESE OF CLOGHER During Holy Week the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of his life on earth, beginning with his messianic entrance into Jerusalem. The Lenten season lasts until the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. The Easter Triduum then begins and lasts until the evening of Easter Sunday. The Easter Triduum is celebrated as one continuous liturgy, representing one indivisible mystery – the Paschal mystery of Christ’s life, death and resurrection. Hence there is no concluding rite or blessing at the end of the liturgy on Holy Thursday or Good Friday. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. On Holy Saturday, during the Easter Vigil, the joyful word “Alleluia!” rings out once more. The Lord has truly risen! The season of Easter then lasts for fifty days, until Pentecost. The following gives information on the celebration of Holy Week and Easter in parishes across the Diocese of Clogher. It is noteworthy that two parishes in the diocese – Derrygonnelly and Irvinestown – will celebrate Dawn Mass on Easter Sunday morning. MONAGHAN & RACKWALLACE (Cathedral Parish) Holy Thursday St. Joseph's Church, 5.30pm (For those who may not be able to attend main liturgy in Cathedral especially older people) St. Macartan's Cathedral, 7.30pm. Encouraged by the warm, wet climate, the decaying material consolidated to form bogs, which extended out into the loughs. Early in this new post-glacial period, Ireland remained joined to Britain and it is conceivable that, not only did plants – especially the trees of Ireland’s new woodlands – and animals cross to Ireland over these land bridges, but also the first settlers. As the climate warmed, ice melted and sea levels rose: gradually Ireland became an island. The first people arrived in Ireland over 9,000 years ago.
