William Patrick Fernandez Neves

Chico, CA

William Patrick Fernandez Neves was born in , on June 28, 1939 to Agnes and Manuel Neves. Will passed away in Chico, on April 3, 2018 after a heroic and valiant two and a half year battle against liver cancer.

Traveling on the SS Lurline, Will moved to with his family in 1946; he met his true love, Norma Maithas, on New Year Eve of 1962. Will shared with Norma that he had 14 siblings and Norma shared that she was an only child. They were married the day after John F. Kennedy was shot, on November 23, 1963.

Will served in the United States Navy from 1958-1962 and worked for S.E Rykoff in Daly City for over seventeen years. In 1978, he moved his family from Union City to Anderson and worked for the Coleman National Fish Hatchery until his retirement in 2005.

Known for his hard work and never ending energy, he constantly amazed family and friends of what one person could accomplish in one day. His meticulously kept yard and home was his trademark. Both his children and grandchildren learned from his leadership and guidance in every aspect. In his retirement he proudly volunteered for the Veterans Cemetery in Igo and the Veterans home in Redding.

Will is survived by his children Michael (Cher) of Palo Cedro and his daughter Michelle (Steve) of Chico. He was blessed with five grandchildren; Joshua (Candice), Natalie, Jessica, Stevie, and Eric. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Monica, Steve, Richard, Fran, Bede, Gerard, Dennis, Anne, Anthony, Loui, Paul, Mary, and Celine. Will is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Norma, and his brother Manuel.

A Celebration of Life Hawaiian Style will be held at 9310 Wagonette Way, Palo Cedro, CA at 1pm on May 5, 2018. An internment will take place at the Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA at 2pm on May 25, 2018. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to Northern California Veterans Cemetery, 11800 Gas Point Rd, Igo, CA 96047 in honor of William P. Neves.
