Not many things in life are certain, but we’ve always counted on Mikael Nordgren knocking it out of the park. Last year’s ‘Baby’ EP was a label highlight, while in March he released ‘Sneaking Hotdogs Into People’s Pocket’, which mined A2 the spirit of ‘90s-drenched euphoria and was a standout on Truesoul. Charlotte de Witte mints her new KNTXT label with a suitably epic collaboration, joining forces with techno royalty Chris Liebing for ‘Liquid Slow’, due for release on 27th September. The CLR boss and German A1 techno pioneer has been a regular at KNTXT parties over the years, not least at the sold-out stadium event at Antwerp's Sportpaleis last year where he will be returning to once again this November, alongside de Witte, just after the release of this new EP. The influential pair spent time hanging out together at Awakenings Festival last year when they had the idea to collaborate. “I field-recorded the sound of a crane that was already taking stuff down next to us and thought it would be a good starting point“ says Chris. Whilst he admits the sample didn't made it on to this release, he teased a future collaboration saying B1 "who knows, maybe there is more in the pipeline, I still have the recording". A1 Area Forty_One now steps up for a full EP on Delsin. The Dutchman proves himself to be an elegant producer of electro that has a super future soul to it across the four tracks on offer. First up, 'Nocturnal Passions Part I' skips on snappy drums through an ethereal galaxy lit up with neon trails and twinkling lights. A2 It's a vastly spacious track full of celestial vibes and expert production before 'Reminiscence' deals in more serene pads and glassy melodies and conjures the sense that you are lost floating in deep space without a rudder. It's a beautiful place to be for the way it has no real drive or direction. Then, 'Freefall' trudges along B1 some heavy, gloopy drums. All around are huge mirrors of melody that shine and reflect light back at you and leave you marvelling at their sheer scale and sereneness. Final track 'Isolated Soul' sure is aptly title, featuring sad synths, skipping beats and raining melodies that make you feel beautifully alone. There's a B2 menacing sense of tension pervading the whole track, too, that makes it all the more engaging

HIP-HOP 180 grams BEL A1 A2 A3 Hoe maak je die tweede plaat, wanneer duizenden ogen verwachtingsvol in je rug priemen? Wanneer elk A4 woord gewicht draagt en elke zin een quote moet kunnen zijn? Brihang worstelde lang met het antwoord daarop, maar vond uiteindelijk toch een werkwijze. Hij sloot zichzelf op binnen de vier muren van zijn A5 studio, zoomde uit en observeerde zichzelf en zijn hele bestaan van bovenaf. Vervolgens bouwde hij op A6 het braakliggend terrein om zich heen aan CASCO, een plaat die moest staan als een huis. Op CASCO B1 klinkt Brihang eerlijker dan ooit. Een barst in de facade verstopt de rapper niet meer achter een nieuwe lik B2 verf, maar benadrukt hij net, door er een kader omheen te hangen. Wie ornamenten of decoratieve opsmuk zoekt, is er aan voor de moeite. Schrijven is schrappen en CASCO is daar een schoolvoorbeeld B3 van. Zorgvuldig stript hij elke zin tot enkel de naakte essentie overblijft. Brihang heeft het over zijn twijfels, B4 zijn onzekerheden en zijn kleine kantjes die hem net zo menselijk maken als u en mij. Die kwetsbaarheid is B5 atypisch voor hiphopartiesten, maar eigenlijk hoeft ze niet te verbazen B6 B7

De in Brussel opgegroeide Gentse Nederlander verzamelde al die tijd krabbels en woorden. Hij speelde bij A2 BeraadGeslagen, STADT en De Beren Gieren, maar schreef en zong ondertussen ook alle mogelijke versies A3 van zijn eigen nummers. Hij trok erop uit, zocht en bleef zoeken, en wist waar hij wilde zijn toen hij er A4 eindelijk belandde. En dat is hier. In een nostalgische wereld waar alles zonneklaar is, vooral het onbegrijpelijke. Een ambigu niemandsland waar grenzen vervagen en alles en niets vertrouwd is. In my view it's a A1 top tune that hasn't been played live for going on 20 years so we took this opportunity to re-introduce it. "My Love Was Felled" this track nearly made it onto the new LP but didn't fir the running order I wanted. A2 "Hurt Me" is a great track by Thee Headcoatees. For some reason I never sang a version. I decided to travel back in time and give it a shot. In my view i do a great job! "Pretend" is another track of Thee B1 Headcoatees that I thought we could have a shot at. Despite being brought up on Sgt. Pepper and the Jimi Hendrix Experience we don't record much psychedelic stuff but here's our splendid rendition of B2 another hit tune
