    Parish Registers and Transcripts in the Norfolk Record Office This list summarises the Norfolk Record Office’s (NRO’s) holdings of parish (Church of England) registers and of transcripts and other copies of them. Parish Registers The NRO holds registers of baptisms, marriages, burials and banns of marriage for most parishes in the Diocese of Norwich (including Suffolk parishes in and near Lowestoft in the deanery of Lothingland) and part of the Diocese of Ely in south-west Norfolk (parishes in the deanery of Fincham and Feltwell). Some Norfolk parish records remain in the churches, especially more recent registers, which may be still in use. In the extreme west of the county, records for parishes in the deanery of Wisbech Lynn Marshland are deposited in the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, whilst Welney parish records are at the Cambridgeshire Record Office. The covering dates of registers in the following list do not conceal any gaps of more than ten years; for the populous urban parishes (such as Great Yarmouth) smaller gaps are indicated. Whenever microfiche or microfilm copies are available they must be used in place of the original registers, some of which are unfit for production. A few parish registers have been digitally photographed and the images are available on computers in the NRO's searchroom. The digital images were produced as a result of partnership projects with other groups and organizations, so we are not able to supply copies of whole registers (either as hard copies or on CD or in any other digital format), although in most cases we have permission to provide printout copies of individual entries.

But too many of them are suffering from neglect, decay and pressure from development. Heritage at Risk is a national project to identify these endangered places and then help secure their future. Over that time, we have reduced the number of historic sites which have been at risk from destruction or demolition in many parts of the East of England region.The first category of assets which we focused on were Buildings at Risk. In our region, which has suffered the vicissitudes of industrial slumps and changing demographics alongside periods of rapid economic growth, this has led to a number of important buildings facing serious threats. Some of these are redundant farm buildings, mills and industrial structures, others are anything from private houses to ornamental follies. With the expansion of the Buildings at Risk Register and developers to proceed with some building projects, to a Heritage at Risk Register we have undertaken an with the reduced availability of funding.     Joint Core Strategy for Broadland, Norwich and South Norfolk The Joint Core Strategy was adopted in March 2011. Following a legal challenge parts of the text, and some associated maps and diagrams, were remitted by High Court Order and taken back to the Regulation 19: Publication of a Local Plan Stage (previously known as the ‘pre-submission stage’), to be treated as not having been subject to examination and adoption. The remainder of the Joint Core Strategy remains adopted. Further work has been carried out to address the High Court ruling and this version of the Joint Core Strategy now contains the Proposed Submission content which is being published under Regulation 19 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 from 10 August 2012 until 8 October 2012. Structural problems and external finishes are in poor condition. English Heritage grant was offered in 2000 but was withdrawn due to lack of progress. A new grant application is awaited. 44 HERITAGE AT RISK EAST OF ENGLAND 45 Eof E HERITAGE AT RISK 2008 The East of England register contains 123 Grade I and II* listed buildings and structural monuments at risk. During the past year, 9 entries have been removed but a further 17 added.The original baseline of the 1999 register included 108 entries and the Region has since removed 52 (48%). Heritage at Risk is a key theme for the Region and remains one of our principle investment priorities for grant aid.We continue to focus our grant funds towards those buildings and owners with the greatest need for our help.We offered grants totalling over half a million pounds to heritage at risk in 2007/08.Two buildings, both in Ipswich, Suffolk, have been removed from the register with the benefit of English Heritage grants.The former church of St Lawrence, within the town centre, has been converted to provide a range of workshops and other facilities for community voluntary services, such as Age Concern, whilst a timber framed building in St Nicholas Street (see below) will continue to provide residential accommodation and retail. Providing statutory advice on new uses for redundant buildings has also seen two former agricultural barns removed from the register through imaginative conversion and repair schemes.
