Media Release – week 2 – 8 November 2015 Big Time Comes to the North Shore

A star-studded Celebrity Cricket team will be in action at Barker College Main Oval on Wednesday, 11 November 2015 from 3.30 to 6.30pm. The ‘ for Change’ Celebrity XI will take on the Barker College First XI in a charity match aimed at raising funds to provide educational opportunities to young men and women in tsunami affected areas of Sri Lanka. Ryan Carters and teammates from the NSW Blues and Sixers, including Ed Cowan, , Nick Larkin, will be joined by current Australian Southern Stars Women’s Cricket team players and . The team will also include Rugby League Legends Matt Cooper and Brett Kimmorley. The match is open to the public and will be played in a festival environment with great food, live music provided by the Barker students. There will be an MC and players wired for sound providing great entertainment for onlookers. The Batting for Change X1 is part of Ryan Carters’ philanthropic initiative “Batting for Change”, which combines the excitement of T20 cricket in with a commitment to supporting the education of young people in developing cricket-playing nations. www.battingforchange.com.au. Batting for Change directs all funds raised to the LBW Trust, an organisation who calls legend Kumar Sangakarra its patron, amongst other cricketing greats. www.lbwtrust.com.au “This game is really exciting and is a great extension of the Batting for Change philanthropic work. We have a great team of quality players and quality characters and we look forward to giving the Barker boys and really good game and providing great entertainment for the spectators”, said Ryan Carters. Rob Lloyd, a Barker parent who works with the LBW Trust said “This fundraising initiative is really exciting and has great balance. The Barker Community is a quality educational establishment that will work with us to fund 2 new technology buildings to provide computers and onsite teaching to help local villagers finish high school and head into tertiary education. The buildings will be located on existing campuses in North and South Sri Lanka and will be called the ‘Barker College Batting for Change Technology Centres’. Harvey Norman has pledged $20,000 and the Barker community is actively raising additional funds via raffles and auctions.” Deputy Head at Barker College, Matt Macoustra, said “We are very pleased that the whole school and surrounding community can join with our Barker Cricket Club in this initiative. We have a team touring Sri Lanka in January 2016 and this philanthropic initiative will not only help our friends in Sri Lanka, but also teach our boys so much about the power of philanthropy and the joy that comes from giving. It will be a fun day and we welcome the people of Sydney to join us in this celebration of cricket and the power of sport.” The general public is welcome to attend the game which commences at 3.30pm on Wednesday, 11 November 2015 on the Main Oval, College Crescent, Waitara.
