Kurt: Boone will have a relationship – it won’t be we’ve created. To do more than that, I just don’t I know my show has a big action component, of the romantic type. People ask which character see it happening. there’s a big absurd humor to the show, so I try I’d write for if I had more time, and the truth is Kurt has been entertaining the idea of a “FIRST to honor that with each episode and incorporate I’d write for all of them. So there’s a million reasons for Clay to disappear real early on. I don’t know where we end up in terms of where we’ve come in the first half. I don’t want to reveal anything; I guess I can say yesterday Kurt Tweeted out one word for everyone in the cast – for me he wrote “redemption.” What were you expecting with your character? Ron: I really didn’t have any expectations. But I didn’t know that season 4 would have the reveal that Jax would know that Clay was the guy that murdered his father. From that moment on Clay is being unwound, and undone. And I had no idea when I signed on that that was going to be the case. It’s been very uncomfortable for me,

By Gary Koz Mraz

I loved pulling wheelies on my bitchin 1970 Schwinn Sting Ray Fastback. This baby was blue metal flake with a 3-speed stick shift! Butterfly handlebars, tuck and roll banana seat, bobtail fender and aftermarket high-rise sissy bar. It was badass and the envy of the block. In fact we shut down the street with full on wheelie competitions. Been through allot of bikes since then and wheelies are out of the question on my Road King. Truth is I have never pulled a serious wheelie on any of my Harleys. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to, and when I ran across Unknown Industries 13th Level DVD I was hangin off the edge of my seat. Oh man, these dudes are crazy!

Enter Buddy Suttle and Nick Leonetti, these are big guys on 670lb Dynas. Pulling almost vertical wheelies, radical burnouts and wild stunts on Harley Davidsons. Buddy started riding BMX at 4 was expert class at 6 years old. Nick Leonetti was raised riding dirt bikes and bought his first Harley at 18. Nick met Buddy and it was game on. Harley Wheelies started as a YouTube phenomenon, filmed with Go Pros, lots of shaky cam and guerilla street video tactics. Unknown Industries 13th Level DVD is a first look into the world of these young bucks. They just finished participating in the Road to Sturgis Tour, 26 cities, 26 riding demos in 32 days. John Oaks, tour manager saw the fans reactions nightly “ The crowds went crazy when these guys started burning rubber and doing wheelies on their Harleys” With a total run time of 27 minutes 13th Level is full of two wheeled fury, pushing the edge and provoking the outlaw in all of us.

Knowing the limits of your bike and your own fears keeps real world riding in perspective. The dynamics of human-machine reaction, time, control and out-of-control dynamics has to be experienced to be understood. But if you’re like me and there is no way in hell I’m trying this on my Harley, Unknown Industries 13th Level DVD is as close as it gets. www.unknownindustries.com

California’s Owens Valley, past Mono Lake, Bridgeport, Walker River, Topaz While Street Vibrations will have its 19th annual Fall Rally this year, Spring Lake on the Nevada line, traversing Washoe and Carson Valley areas, the Rally is only on the 6th year. 24 AUGUST 2013 AUGUST 2013 25 26 AUGUST 2013 AUGUST 2013 27 Story & Photos by Randy Twells A regular feature at both Spring and Fall Street Vibes is the Globe of Death Stunt Show—using a huge metal ball made of criss-crossing strips of steel about 4 inches apart all around, all welded up with a door in the side, that the performers enter on bikes and ride around in a choreographed dance of high speed maneuvers. Lots of people watch this and get their autographed poster, or a photo of the action from the crowd, but several years ago I thought, I’m going to get the best shot ever—so I asked the show’s owner and main guy John Stotts if I could go underneath the Globe and shoot directly up through the grids to show the action inside the Globe unimpeded by the framework- and he said Yes! So every year I do this. Of course, I have to hold the camera lens just below the actual open space between the grids because, there is actually a motorcycle tire rolling over that spot numerous times during the show, and the whole globe shakes, rattles and rolls due to the forces exerted by the bikes rolling in all directions, just enough that if you don’t have nerves of steel like the Globe itself, don’t try this!! And as John says, “if this Globe’s a rockin’, don’t come a-knockin’!” So I avoid getting my camera lens embedded with a motorcycle tire track, and shoot away, bracing the camera with my little Then there was the Arm Wrestling---2 scheduled competitions, with the finger against the grids and the lens just about ½” last one seeing a woman step up to the grips and give it her best shot, but below the opening- any farther out and I lose the alas it was to be the guy who threw his whole body into it and slayed the wide angle shot of the action inside. competition. This time John’s ride partner was Daniel, who used John Ascuaga’s Nugget, a family business, is the main hotel where everyone to also perform stunts with him at the “Splash!” stays for Spring Streets, and Stephen Ascuaga our host came out to the Plaza show in Las Vegas in the late 1980’s (coincidentally to check out the Rally area. 44 AUGUST 2013 AUGUST 2013 45 46 AUGUST 2013 AUGUST 2013 47 By Marcel Schiro VP Sales, Marketing and Product Design 7eye by Panoptx Eyewear

As a 15-year veteran manufacturer and supplier of performance eyewear I get asked over and over “How are you guys doing...what is your opinion of the state of the industry...what do you see for the future of the MC biz?” Well I have come to a short version of a response and a long version as well. So as not to bore the reader I’ll share the short version.

My overall opinion is...as long as we ride and continue to share the enthusiasm of this thing we love the MC biz will sustain itself. Too many suppliers have copped to the dollar and pressures from finances to guide, direct, and control our businesses and have lost the original vision that was fueled by the roar of our motors and the wind in our face. I truly believe that if we hold on to the original reason we got into this industry, over time and over ‘peaks and through valleys’ we’ll be ok and the industry will thrive.

Now don’t misunderstand... without finances in control, in check and good planning no business will sustain forever. A lot of people try to make a business out of their hobby or passion and fail. That’s usu- ally because they are out of balance. Staying in balance means exactly that; not too much of one of the other but rather an equal amount of both. In our case we temper our direction with equal parts of enthusi- asm, good business practices and an innate sense of what our customer needs and wants.

As avid riders for many years we are constantly trying to meet other riders’ needs when it comes to eyewear. As evidenced by our introduc- tion and patent of the ‘original element sealing’ eyewear, back in 1996, up to our new 2013 release of styles with unique technology we believe that new ideas, and the interest to pioneer them is what drives our suc- cess. We are always striving to be better in what we design, how we facilitate our staff and most importantly how we service our dealers. When you have loyal customers who have continued to purchase your products over the years you know you’ve done something right. When you get countless testimonials from riders sharing stories of how our product has enhanced their riding experience you know you’ve aligned with and satisfied your constituents.

So... I guess the ultimate rule here is... stay true to yourself, stay true and tuned in to your customers, be wise... and never ever loose your passion for the fun and excitement in this lifestyle we so treasure. With that attitude no peak will be too high and no valley too low for us all to make the MC industry thrive.

48 AUGUST 2013 AUGUST 2013 49 On May 4th, Harley-Davidson of Westminster had a Ride-In Movie Night at an empty building down on the 405 freeway. They had a gourmet food truck, ice cream and showed biker film classic “Easy Rider”. Why was it at an empty building off the 405 freeway? It’s the future location of the bigger, bolder Harley-Davidson of Westminster. They are also holding our HOG meetings at the new building. It is on the 405 between Beach Blvd. and Golden West St. off ramps. The address is 15080 Golden West CIRCLE (not street). The move is several months away with the timing to be around fall of 2013. The new facility is approximately twice as large as their current facility.

In our July issue story on page 13 about the Poker Run/Semper Fi Fund event, held by the Brotherhood of Marine Riders, we in- correctly stated the rank of Master Seargent Steve Anderson 2 ranks lower, as Staff Sear- gent. We know that our Marines deserve every bit of the ranks they hold. Quick Throttle regrets the error and we thank Master Seargent Steve Anderson and all the Marine Riders, for their outstanding service to the United States of America.

50 AUGUST 2013 AUGUST 2013 51 “On page 21 of the July issue, Randy Twells mentions A-Team Mo- torcycles running the Victory display in Laughlin. While this has been true in the past, in the last year Victory has changed from having a sole dealer run a regional rally, to part corporate support with an actual designated Rally truck, marketing budget etc. But it is still in the hands of a lead dealership. This year Desert Thunder Victory dealer put much of their time, efforts and resources into making the rally a great suc- cess. Desert Thunder, A Team, RideNow Powersports on Rancho, and Arizona West All Sport all participated but Donnie Ward and his team at Desert Thunder had a very significant role” CD

On page 22 of the July issue, the Memorial Day Rally “Flags for our Fallen” article was mistakenly accredited to George Childress. The article was written by Vince Ansel.
